Despite the negative connotations overseas, US firms, many of them working on artificial intelligence, are adopting both the schedule and its nickname as they race to compete against each other—and with China. Adrian Kinnersley, a serial entrepreneur who runs both a staffing and recruitment company and an employment compliance startup, has been surprised by how many startups are going all-in on 996. “It’s becoming increasingly common,” he says. “We have multiple clients where a prerequisite for screening candidates before they go for an interview is whether they are prepared to work 996.”
As a geologic consultant, I often put in 80-100 hours a week. Sometimes 48 hours straight, if we were running logs, or pulling cores. I did that for 7 years.

Thanks. That is absolutely hilarious and shows the “mindset” here. Anecdotal evidence from one person overriding data from sources directly involved in the topic at hand that are simply stating statistics because the individual doesn’t like the counterfactual data.
On political issues, I expect biased responses from Grok because of the human-produced sources of it data, but even then I’m surprised because it often weighs both sides of such issues. See it’s illegal alien data. The bias there is that it refers to them as undocumented immigrants.
And Grok AI can be challenged logically, evidentially, conversationally in the same way as one might challenge a person making the same biased statement.
The difference I’ve found is that Grok, in response, is far more likely to admit to its bias and accept my criticism of its “facts” and sources than the majority of people making biased statements of the same kind based on their own bias-limiting sources, or based on the popular opinion of a group they affiliate with.

As a farmer’s daughter, I can assure you that most farmer’s make no where near that 250,000-500,000 a year. Not when you count costs of equipment, equipment breakdowns, seed costs, fertilizer, costs of livestock and their feed, etc. The list goes on.
As self-employed for 36 years, I worked sometimes 7 days a week…PLUS did the grocery shopping, cleaned the house, attended school functions and sports for the kids, took kids to doc/dentist appointments. I was exhausted.
one of the happiest days of my life…May 31, 2023…retirement. I do not miss it one iota. Oh, and never reached anywhere near the $100,000 a year.

I did that too, not for as long in one stretch, but more than once in my work careeer. And in the process I missed a lot that was going on with my two kids. Fortunately my wife at the time was able to be home when the kids were there, so they were properly raised by one parent if not two.
But I loved my work, I owned it (as I’d been conditioned to do, growing up on a farm) and that makes an enormous, almost immeasurable difference in the world of working-for-somebody-else.
I hear young people in the family sometimes complain about a few hours extra a day. When I told them that working for oil companies sometimes required working long into the night at times and on a few occasions, working through the night they are really surprised.
Working in Geophysical and Geologic exploration pays well, but the salary is earned in every way.

In the second case, wouldn’t suggest it for anyone and would indeed strongly advise against it even if building your own business/farm. Counsel would be a max of 10 on a regular basis in the latter case (occasional breach expected).

I was hoping someone would point out Active Duty hours and being deployed just on a ship for 6 months at a time. Enlisted pay is poverty level too.
Ship deployments can be upwards of 10 months in peacetime – longer in war.
Most submariners spend 50% of their time at sea, in a rotational sequence. Boomers are 3 month cycles.
During active combat operations, deployments on land can be years.
Periods of no sleep can be measured in days.
It’s far better today than it was in the past, but enlisted pay used to be sub-poverty level and junior officers weren’t out of the woods either in that regard. Now the lower grade officers make as much as the highest grade enlisted and with the exception of E-9s, the pay scale is essentially flag for both enlisted and officer after about 16 years short of advancement in grade.

Although typical of such research and theory where vaccines are not even considered as a potential cause or contributor, that major flaw doesn’t undermine its finding with respect to exposure at an early age to “farm” bacteria and allergy comparisons between, especially, Amish and Mennonite populations included in the study. The finding of the research is compelling in spite of its shortcoming.

Food related too. Since my grandson came to stay with us most of the week, his food habits have changed. We eat homegrown beef and chicken, unvaccinated and grass fed. Most vegetables are homegrown, no pesticides or additives. We rarely buy processed foods and order a pizza once a week. He’s a lot healthier and no longer allergic to every bug that bit.

Yes it does! Now we are competing with solar farms and wind farms in rural areas. Run off most likely effect the Amish and healthy living groups eventually.
It use to be all kids were so, as playing in nature and being outside was common place and regular.
Now far too many almost never go outside and are perpetually locked into their phones or game consoles or computers. Same goes for many adults.
Working in the yard, having a garden, growing things, being out in nature, fresh air, and sunshine are all things everyone should do for not just their health, but also their mental well being.
During the lockdowns, when my beautiful granddaughter was in first grade and masked for an entire year (it still makes me cry), my husband and I who live several states away took a drive through Amish country a couple of hours away from us; we passed the little Amish school where the children were outside, playing baseball at recess—girls and boys playing together just being children. No masks, no fear. I ached for my granddaughter to have had the same experience, but even in the midwest state where she lived, the fear and tyranny was ubiquitous.
What they did to children in many parts of the country was unconscionable, surpassed only by what they did to the elderly.

We have young neighbors next door with a 4 and 6 year old living on more than an acre…beautiful, oversized back yard with every conceivable piece of playground equipment you can imagine, not to mention all the things taking up half of a double car garage. And according to Customs and Border Patrol, DHS HSI quote refused to investigate, not declined, refused to investigate Ryan Ralph. Now Ryan Ralph at the time was recruiting thousands thousand at least 5,000 by his own numbers of terrorist and extremist militia fighters from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria and Iran. My point is, both “surrogates” for POTUS requiring higher security than Trump were speaking at closed, relatively small events in secure venues with limited entry points on the same date at about the same time in close proximity to a Trump event. Is it common for both to speak at such minor events at the same time and in close proximity to a Trump rally, the J13 rally being his last outdoor rally prior to his nomination and, by virtue of that nomination, then becoming a higher priority Secret Service protectee?

Nvidia AI chips worth $1bn smuggled to China after Trump export controls
At least $1bn worth of Nvidia’s advanced artificial intelligence processors were shipped to China in the three months after Donald Trump tightened chip export controls, exposing the limits of Washington’s efforts to restrain Beijing’s high-tech ambitions.
A Financial Times analysis of dozens of sales contracts, company filings and multiple people with direct knowledge of the deals reveals that Nvidia’s B200 has become the most sought-after — and widely available — chip in a rampant Chinese black market for American semiconductors.
The processor is widely used by US powerhouses such as OpenAI, Google and Meta to train their latest AI systems, but banned for sale to China.
In May, multiple Chinese distributors started selling B200s to suppliers of data centres that serve Chinese AI groups, according to documents reviewed by the FT. This was shortly after the Trump administration moved to prevent sales of the H20 — a less-powerful Nvidia chip tailored to comply with Joe Biden-era curbs.
It is legal to receive and sell restricted Nvidia chips in China, as long as relevant border tariffs are paid, according to lawyers familiar with the rules. Entities selling and sending them to China would be violating US regulations, however.

Webb: I’m really concerned about as it relates to a coming economic crisis is that I think we’re going to see a major effort to saddle American consumers with programmable, surveillable money and seizable money and so of course a lot of people for years now have been very concerned about Central Bank Digital Currencies or CBCDs, but there are also issued by the private sector like Stablecoins for example that are just as programmable and surveillable and seizable as CBCDs are. So, I think it’s very likely in the event of a major debt crisis or some sort of crisis that damages significantly regular Americans purchasing power there will be an effort to onboard Americans onto one of those two versions of programmable surveillable money. So, it’s possible you know if Kamala wins we could see a CBDC or something like that, but in the case of Trump, he’s sort of come out in favor of Stablecoins. Just saw over on TGP that Sen. Cotton sent a letter to Kash Patel back in May asking him to conduct a “review of all Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) actions in which former Director James Comey was personally involved.” Apparently Cotton just revealed this request (the first I’ve heard of it), saying he is “working with” Patel on this. But what is prompting him to make such a request? The Judiciary Committee has oversight of the FBI, not Cotton and his Select Committee on Intelligence, although they may have some role regarding the FBI Intelligence Branch, but not of the entire FBI or of everything the Director does. Very suspicious about this. He might just be trying to throw a monkey wrench into the works, to slow down or distract whatever Patel and the others are working on.

They made the science fit their emotions being for immigration, even though the science itself said that immigration destroys the environment flora & fauna.

Before I left Oregon, i had good doctors who did not believe in the mask ideology.
Damn here in SD, seems that over 1/3 of them truly believe masks will keep them safe. For about 6 months maybe a year one had to wear a mask to enter the medial facilities. Had a few doctors panic if your mask was not covering your nose & moth totally. Crazies part is usually the mask I put on was one that i grabbed had been sitting in the glove box or middle console for months, & reused frequently.
it took 20 minutes of due diligence to learn that the average corona virus (common cold) molecule is 1/8 (.125) of a micron and those masks stop particles greater than 3 microns or greater, conclusion, worthless
also discovered that a single bacterium multiplies 5000 billion, billion times in 24 hours time
yes, that’s billion twice
and lots of people wore the same mask for days on end
those who wore those masks have no clue they were asperating 100’s of thousands/millions of microscopic, cheap chynese plastic and other fibrous materials (those masks shed) directly into their lungs and sinus cavities
i could go on, but 20 minutes of dd march 2020 was time well spent
