The popular headlines read that six secret service agents were suspended last month. However, a more fulsome review of the disciplinary action highlights a slight slap on the wrist as the suspensions were from 10 to 42 days.
The disciplinary action follows an internal review of the failures of the Secret Service during President Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania that almost cost him his life.
WASHINGTON – Six agents were suspended by the U.S. Secret Service for failures connected to last year’s attempted assassination of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, an official told ABC News.
The personnel moves were confirmed four days shy of the anniversary of the July 13, 2024, shooting incident that left Trump’s ear bloodied.
Corey Comperatore, a firefighter attending Trump’s campaign rally that day, died in the attack.

Sean Currin has been a long time loyal agent who has been pictured with POTUS Trump many many times including the Butler rally. He is in the iconic photo from that day and one of the first to cover POTUS up. He deserved his promotion based on his meritous service and loyalty.

The ABC article doesn’t mention it, but on the local ABC news affiliate the local reporter said that once their suspension is over they will each be reassigned to lesser levels or positions within the agency, those that don’t retire.

Some locals are reporting, with no real background info at all, that they got fired, not suspended.
The Secret Service is not fixable. They should be delegated to people below the level of Speaker of the House. POTUS, VP, the Speaker should have a new unit recruited by Army Delta (or whatever Delta is calling themselves these days) Posse Comitatus does not apply since they are not providing law enforcement duties.
The Protection Division has been short-handed/overextended for some time. The total number of employees in the agency is around 8K – 8.5K. Investigation of financial crimes should be transferred to the Treasury Department which would free up a good sized pool of personnel.
