North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis previously railroaded the nomination of USAO Ed Martin. Senator Tillis has also blocked many of the key elements of President Trump’s border effort and immigration plan, and last night he announced he will vote against President Trump and the Big Beautiful Bill.
Today, facing severe backlash from the people within his state and the larger MAGA community, Thom Tillis announces he is going to forcefully oppose the BBB and is not going to seek reelection, so there’s no political leverage against him.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina said Sunday he will not seek reelection, a day after announcing his opposition to President Donald Trump’s tax breaks and spending cuts package because of its reductions to health care programs.
Tillis said he was proud of his career in public service but acknowledged the difficult political environment for those who buck their party and go it alone.
“In Washington over the last few years, it’s become increasingly evident that leaders who are willing to embrace bipartisanship, compromise, and demonstrate independent thinking are becoming an endangered species,” he said in a lengthy statement.
“Sometimes those bipartisan initiatives got me into trouble with my own party, but I wouldn’t have changed a single one.”
Trump, in social posts, had berated Tillis for being one of two Republican senators who voted on Saturday night against advancing the massive bill. (more)

When you find yourself consistently rowing against the will of your constituents, it’s time to either change direction (regardless of your own preferences) or get out of the way.
I don’t agree with President Trump on everything (against the Iran bombing, for instance), however I worked to help him get elected, and I’m going to stand by his decisions and support him in every way that I can. I have to believe that President Trump has more information than I have, and his decisions are based on solid analysis (for instance, I never would have believed the 12 Day War would be over in 12 days!).
Therefore, my advice to Congress and to anyone who want to attempt to thwart President Trump’s plan right now is to support him or get out of the way. We are on the Trump Train and we are moving on!
