“Elbows up” and knees bent. As expected given the nature of their dependency, the Canadian government has rescinded the digital services tax against U.S. tech companies.
The June 30th collection is halted and the Canadian government led by Mark Carney will be bringing legislation to rescind the tax entirely.
CANADA – […] Minister of Finance and National Revenue, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, announced today that Canada would rescind the Digital Services Tax (DST) in anticipation of a mutually beneficial comprehensive trade arrangement with the United States. Consistent with this action, Prime Minister Carney and President Trump have agreed that parties will resume negotiations with a view towards agreeing on a deal by July 21, 2025.
The DST was announced in 2020 to address the fact that many large technology companies operating in Canada may not otherwise pay tax on revenues generated from Canadians. Canada’s preference has always been a multilateral agreement related to digital services taxation. While Canada was working with international partners, including the United States, on a multilateral agreement that would replace national digital services taxes, the DST was enacted to address the aforementioned taxation gap.
The June 30, 2025 collection will be halted, and Minister Champagne will soon bring forward legislation to rescind the Digital Services Tax Act. (LINK)
In the bigger picture Canada has a serious problem.
Canada is entirely dependent on the USA; there is no part of the Canadian economic system that can survive without total dependence on the USA. The Canadian economy is currently stagnant and their leftist government is desperate to find a way to collect revenue somehow, any way possible. Additionally, President Trump is going to end the USMCA trade agreement and shut down a majority of the benefits Canada has been extracting.
The most remarkable aspect to this reality is the denial within Canada. There are maybe a handful of honest Canadian economists, financial types and/or pundits who understand economic matters that are willing to outline and explain the details of Canada’s vulnerability…..
…. The rest are in denial, shouting ‘elbows up’ as if that is going to change the inevitable. The pretending is strong amid the snow Mexicans. Their denial is a mass formation psychosis. Stunningly so.

Hosers! 🤣
Did someone say…Hosers ??
Take off, eh!
Little country syndrome.
Trump should ask Carney to call the Parliament into session and rescind the law. Don’t trust these Lieberals.

Elbows up and knees bent sounds a lot like the chicken walk?
I don’t get what “elbows up” even means! If this is some kind of a rally cry it’s a pretty pathetic one, if you ask me..
It’s a hockey term. Using your elbows to hit your opponents head. Considered a dirty move.
Thanks. I wondered what it meant too.
Me three! I thought it was similar to chin up, boy was I ever wrong! Lol
Thanks, I did not know either
It earns you a two-minute penalty, which results in a disadvantage giving the other team an excellent chance to score. What a great metaphor for the state of Canada’s trade negotiations!

Pres Trump’s theme song: I wont back down!
Perfect! Thanks, Charlotte!
Here is the Lara Trump version singing; I Won’t Back Down
Great song, and a perfect theme song for our President! I’ve seen this video many times over the years, but never noticed Ringo, George, Jeff Lynn and I think Brian May (of Queen?) playing with him. Cool!
This song comes from Petty’s first solo album (Full Moon Fever) which he co-wrote with Lynne. Lynne and Harrison were associated with Petty through The Traveling Wilburys. Starr played drums for the video but not on the album. The fourth guitarist/Brian May lookalike is Mike Campbell, co-founder of the Heartbreakers.
Our GDP: $24.6T. Canada’s GDP: $2.1T. I wonder who is going to win any trade negotiation? 🤔

I know very little about Canada’s history. Has there ever been a Canadian political leader who actually helped the country? I remember Canada having two NHL franchises when I was a youngster, and I think the Canadian capital city began with an “O”. Pretty sad for being 74 and so ignorant.
I am near your age, and although we had pretty decent world history classes in public school, they didn’t cover much about Canada. We’re French Canadian on my dad’s side — he was born and raised in NH. When I started researching our family history, I was stunned to learn that we are direct descendants of many of the early founding families that came over in the 1600s, and are mentioned in Canadian history books.
In the process of researching my roots, I discovered that one of my ancestors is Sir Wilfrid Laurier, who was PM of Canada around the turn of the century. (As a fun aside, he is featured on the Canadian $5 bill, which many have drawn over his portrait to make him look like Spock from Star Trek — the Bank of Canada warned against “Spocking” their money.) He was popular in his time, and tried to thread the needle of bringing unity to the country between the French and English Canadians, through compromises which sometimes angered one side or the other. Interestingly, he was involved in a lot of trade negotiations with the U.S. Anyway, here’s a bio of him from the Canadian Encyclopedia that gives more details, esp about the trade issues with America:
https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/sir-wilfrid-laurier
Thank you Linderella! I am Cdn-born dual Cdn/US citizen and find this very interesting.
You’re welcome, BofTruth! So glad to share about my family’s Canadian heritage. It amazed me that for a big country right upstairs from America, that we learned so little about it in school aside from a few early battles with the U.S.. I made a trip to Montreal and Quebec in 1984 after researching some of the names in our tree, and it was awesome to track down statues of some of the founders that we are related to, or to see their names on the list of early settlers in Quebec’s city hall!
Very nice family history.
I am 71, and also blessedly ignorant of things Canadian.
I do recall an elementary school project on the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Later in life, recall the horrible Montreal Expos baseball team, plus the Toronto Blue Jays, who have had some success.
Thanks, DE. I happened to be in Canada when they were having a huge Canada Day celebration in 1984 (commemorating their founding) and got to see the RCMP on parade. Their uniforms were most impressive — brilliant regal red coats that were well-tailored. And they all seemed very handsome with perfect profiles — my friend Ruth and I found it fun to realize how much they looked like Dudley Do-Right!
Hi Linderella,
Looking at the Canadian $5 bill, your ancestor Sir Wilfrid Laurier was certainly a distinguished-looking chap.
Too bad about the “Spocking”, but I guess it means that people care.
I remember back in 2017, some enterprising individual manufactured a red rubber stamp with the words “Trump Lives Here >>.” It could be easily stamped onto the back of a $20 bill, right next to the picture of the White House. Surefire way to provoke liberal tears.
We have a slight connection to Canada. Paternal grandmother side of family left County Wexford, Ireland, in the 1860s, first stop Canada, then down to Santa Clara County, California, where they stayed.
Your Linderella moniker is very clever. I will have to share with the Lindas I know.
Thanks for the compliments on my ancestor and my moniker. A coworker came up with that as a nickname for me, and I enjoyed it so much that I use it for various things… And thanks for filling me in on your own Canadian roots. (And yes, I have seen a few of those $20 Trump Lives here bills. They always make me smile. 🙂
The most famous Canadian for most of us American “Baby Boomers” is Dudley Do Right and his girlfriend Nell.
Thank you for this information about Canada. At least now I know something pertinent regarding current events.
Glad I could help, George!
I can see Leonard Nimoy here. Add bangs, angled eyebrows and pointed ears.
Yes… The $5 bill portrait was even more pronounced. (I think they changed the money finally to a different portrait that looked less like Spock.) Here’s an article about it with examples:

Capital is Ottawa, Ontario. From what I read in school Lester B Pearson was known for been a decent PM. To me, since I started following politics a bit more, I liked Stephen Harper, especially liked seeing his attitude and strictly business when Obama came here for a visit. The only hockey team I was interested and cheered for was the Maple Leafs, from Toronto, Ontario, went and watched them play as they were an hour away. Fifty plus years later still waiting for Lord Stanley. the Cup. The last 10 years with Trudope at the helm, he totally destroyed this once beautiful country.
Hockey was only in six cities until 1967 when the NHL expanded. Guys my age from Philadelphia never even followed hockey until that year. I never did and many others never did get interested in pro hockey. The younger generation did become devoted fans.
I grew up and still live in the Lehigh Valley. My father was a New York Rangers fan until the NHL awarded Philadelphia an expansion franchise. I wasn’t aware of hockey until 1972 (8 years old) when I first saw the Flyers on TV.
Until 1967 the majority of Philadelphians were not NHL fans. We had zero coverage of the sport(except the Ramblers-minor league team ). After 1967 when the Flyers came to town, hockey flourished in Philly and all the surrounding areas. The first year in 1967 the Flyers had no TV contract and were only on a small radio station WEEZ out of Chester, PA only for the third period. I could be wrong since it was so long ago, about the third period.
The father, Pierre, sowed the seeds of the downward spiral – making French an official language, the faux
constitution, attacking the provinces resources i.e. Alberta etc etc, remember Donna?
I hate to see our countries squabbling. I’ve never met a Canadian I didn’t like. Many of them are hardy, self sufficient people with good common sense. Most that I know are self sufficient.
I was hoping the common Canadians were going to intimidate Trudeau, and it may happen yet. The Canadian Truckers earned my respect.
I think the greatest asset of Canada is its common people. I suspect they will rise against any stupid government, maybe with a little help from US>
The problem is the city folk win all the elections for the communists
We have the same problem here in the US. Fortunately the non-city folk still out number the city folk nation wide.
City folk= foreign born
No they’re just white liberal morons telling all the poor and/or immigrants how to vote.
Praying for that. I still do not believe Mark Carney won, as everyone was shocked when it was announced. I was so sure Pierre won the election.
Great point. The Canadian truckers showed the world how to do it. Waiting for them to resurface.
There are Canadian truckers and truckers who operate out of Canada. These are not the same.
While there are many fine Canadians out there, it is perhaps time to realize that Canadians in general do harbor a particularly latent strain of anti-Americanism. Many are even proud of it.
Not, ‘latent,’ but prominent (IMHO)
Canada is playing a very costly game, let’s see if they’re starting to get a realistic view of their economic landscape. If not…

IMHO the entire world, and especially the “western nations” of same, is going through mass formation psychosis. It can be seen everywhere and at all times.
It amazes me the fragility of the human mind. I count myself lucky every day, and of course thank God that I am not susceptible. I imagine many if not all Treepers do likewise.
There truly is massive mental illness out there. And what’s fascinating to me is how someone can be certifiably insane and yet still function. Hold down a job, feed themselves, drive, do laundry, etc. …. and yet they are completely crazy in other areas like politics, religion, or relationships.
They ignore the True God and His Laws. THAT, ultimately, IS their problem.
hey musk does it.👀

No matter what the ‘official’ story says, Canada is a British colony, strategically adjacent to the US. The crown can’t realistically provide for its sustenance, so it must leach off its rebellious neighbor. It has taken in the globalist horde armies of blue helmets and CCP military divisions. It lies in dormancy, much like cicada’s underground for two decades, unseen. Until…
As weak as Canada appears it is more dangerous than it appears. It couldn’t prevail in any sort of extended conflict without resupply across the oceans. But, reality is nor can the US today, global trade interdependence is real, by design. To avoid worldwide conflagrations.
I wonder how much of the concessions that PDJT is winning from Canada and global trading partners is just temporary feints that will revert to form in four years, and how much is durable, will last beyond 2028. As much as I’d like them to be durable without more than swipes of the presidential pen they won’t be. At least not until the cost of reverting back to the global leaching off the US system exceeds the cost of a major orientation back to the US’s favor system that PDJT is trying to orchestrate. Sure would be nice if the nominally GOP congress would help pass legislation that makes it more durable. And fires get lit under the butts of CEO’s to complete the major orientation back to the US by 2028. Any commitments being made beyond that date are IOU’s with no intention of redeeming.

“Those who landed in London were soon starving in the streets. Those who had gone to Nova Scotia were often exploited, denied the land they had been promised and trapped in destitution. There are Canadians that post here, and there are many Canadian conservatives that are our brothers and sisters in the struggle against the Globalists, Commies, and Marxists. But there is a sect of Canadians in Canada that have been anti-America for many decades. It comes out in different ways. The worst method right now is the flow of fentanyl that is killing many of America’s young people.
This is evil. It is an evil that is also visited on the people of Canada.
China, Mexico, South America…..throughout their governments and populations most will do anything for money. Sell their children, their body parts, sell poison, steal, lie. They are disgusting.
But Canada has the ability to hurt us more because many Americans believed that Canadians were our friends.
The fact that Canada had to be forced to stop sending fentenyl into the United States via tarrifs….no words.
Canadians have zero knowledge of fentenyl entering the USA from Canada. I think everyone here just assumes it enters the States through Mexico.
Can you find words for all the drugs and human trafficking going at the southern border that America allows and encourages
I am hoping your point is that the average citizen in both countries is not responsible or involved in these activities.
Canadaians, like Americans, have been abused by their government.
They have the knowledge; they just refuse to acknowledge it.
No they don’t . Canadians just assume fentanyl in the states is produced in the states or enters through the Mexican border .
And over 90 % if drug seizures occured atctte southern border , one does wonder why more don’t occur at the northern border
Stua – perhaps the fact that all of Canadian news media info is bought and paid for by the federal government could be a factor in the ignorant assumptions of Canadians?
Over the weekend I watched Shawn Ryan interview @katarinaszulc on X. Canada has been infiltrated by the cartels for almost a decade. They operate there with pretty much no issues from the RCMP. She’s a Canadian who has interviewed high level cartel members. she’s a young gal who has a lot of guts.
Here’s the interview link –

I’ll bet the snow mexican news media will report that Canada is just a few months away from rebuilding their nuclear digital services tax. LOL
Obviously Canada never learned the difference between communism and socialism.. The later they embraced to their own detriment, now their woes are someone else fault.. At least the Venezuelans admit their error..
I feel very sorry for the good common people of Canada. Over the years I’ve had discussions with folks from BC and the Yukon to Nova Scotia, and every other province in between. None were in any way obnoxious like their leaders have become (except one guy in Ontario. Whatever happens, I hope these good citizens somehow avoid the suffering that seems to be looming in the future.
The Canadian economy is currently stagnant and their leftist government is desperate to find a way to collect revenue somehow, any way possible.

I deleted my original comment because I did not quite grok that there already was some kind of agreement on a tax on digital services. I guess that was signed by the Autopen is all I am left with, as I cannot ken that anyone would agree to such a thing.
Oh, come On!!!!

It is remarkable how dumb the average human being is. If you don’t self educate you are nothing more than an indoctrinated/brainwashed hate-filled leftist sheep, to one degree or another. Anyone that ‘wants to know the truth’ can find it. The Sheeple are either intellectually and/or morally lazy or they are inflicted by the legacy media’s hate filled narrative ie Trump Derangement Syndrome. You would think after he has survived two attempts on his life people would wake up. This is an evil cult driven by demonic like hate. Very similar to Islamic extremists consumed by the same level of vitriol. They justify it, so in their tiny minds that makes it okay.
Well I must say, you hit the nail on the head.
no spin.
Trump is potty training canada.
😏
At every turn Trump is destroying neo-liberals dreams of taxation and dependency on big government.
The Greenies limit their use of their abundant natural resources, and they may have also let some manufacturing go. Massive corruption, Chyna a huge player… cartels, allegedly massive money laundering… unchecked immigration… a real mess.

🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️👊👊👊🙏🏻🙏🏻
The takeaway I’m getting from this is that Trump’s inflammatory comment about Canadians becoming a part of the US was not as ridiculous as it initially sounded.
Despite the initial insult, it sounds like they will need help getting free from a US support system.
Rather than an ordinary state, why not allow a sort of US protectorate territory where they have to form a stable economy and government that is self sustaining prior to making any decisions about whether or not they want to be a part of the US.
I know my comment sounds like what they currently have, but that’s not what I’m recommending.
I mean that instead we provide assistance that moves away from the parasitic relationship towards self sufficiency.
We (the US) have enough welfare States and territories; we don’t need another one.
The Communists, socialists of the world are like sleazy leeches; if you don’t salt the area, they will cling forever to their host.
We need to cut the umbilical cord
We also don’t need another third world country on our border.
They have the natural resources and good people to be successful, they just have a terrible government.
But you are right, we don’t need another welfare state. What I love about Trump is that he will look for a solution that will benefit US first but also Canada.
Our political class have taxed everything they can think of with us, the citizens. Their base is the same as Bernie Sander’s base, the hippies of the late 60s,today’s boomers. Some of my high school teachers were the Vietnam draft dodgers that Canada welcomed enthusiastically. Our PM at the time Pierre Trudeau was a great friend of Castro and all things progressive. The political class here have the majority by the throat and walk all over us. They forgot that they can’t act like pompous Aholes with the USA (Trump). Carney and team have mandated electric vehicles ONLY by 2035. Government jobs are mandated 25% to illegal immigrants . Canada has brought in 5 million in the past 3 years. Millions of international students’ visas are expiring this year. Many have applied for refugee status. My one bedroom apartment in Toronto is $3000. We are racing toward a cliff, and the WEF member Carney and his green/progressive team are as determined as Pol Pot was to implement their vision.
Wow.
I live in the detroit area, across the detroit river from windsor, ontario.
we used to cross to go to caesars windsor (casino hotel) for an excursion, buffet, or shows (saw johnny mathis, dionne warwick).
when MGM opened in detroit (among others), we stopped crossing to canada. That was 15-20 years ago.
more recently, just before the fake pandemic, we noticed lots of canadians worked in the detroit casinos (sidenote: this has been true in lots of industries on the border- many canadians cross to work in U.S.).
but from what you describe, I am picturing windsor and probably an empty caesars with dismal patronage. The surrounding city blocks had little to offer, too.
there is that university right in windsor, but it’s hardly a hustle and a bustle. And also from what you describe, it probably has many international students waiting to suck more from the govt.
most “detroiters” need nor gain nothing from crossing to windsor these days. I havent checked the exchange rate lately, but doubt it works in canada’s favor.
25 years ago we scouted University of Windsor with our daughter…On the way home we offered to pay first year tuition and housing…Never looked back
Sounds awful and frightening. We have a giant mess here in the US that our President Trump is determined to clean up to the best of his ability. Canada needs a Trump, someone who loves his country enough to go through hell to attempt to bring it back into reality and away from those insane EU/WEF country destroyers. Good luck to you all! Praying for our country and praying for your good people!
Not THIS Boomer or her hubby!
The Canadian Communists took their guns, control the media, control the banks, control their health care, and control their speech. The elites have turned the people into sheep. Alberta might be the only solution for a few of them.
China and the drug cartels may be the only solution for the rest of them.
As the Irish say: “FOOK ‘UM!”
Canadians voted for economic suicide, mass 3rd world immigration and an increasingly oppressive surveillance state 4 times in a row. They deserve everything coming their way.
Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush, Obama, Obama. We were one cackle away from the same fate. Most people are good.
