Russian President Vladimir Putin answered questions from the media earlier. One of the questions was about President Trump against the backdrop of peace efforts, the middle-east conflict and Ukraine.
President Putin’s response is very interesting. I am placing here as a datapoint for my own analysis without reading too much into it at the moment. All of the points are converging in one direction. WATCH:

As a geographic fact, Yest Norway and Russia shares a land border. Have been aware of this ever since I spent two weeks in Srreisa years ago when it was a small unknown blip, before the significant changes it’s undergoing now.
Norway was an original NATO member, and was never as contentious an issue, as Ukraine is now.

I believe historic precedence, bears this logic out, hence why Ukraine was the red line for Russia.

The land Russia currently controls isn’t enough. Lugansk has been incorporated into the Russian Federation but Russia only recently took total control of all of it. Portions of Donetsk remain to be liberated. Russia is grinding along inexorably. Ukraine is running out of men. Russia will end up with more – probably Kharkov and Odessa. Ukraine only has itself to blame. “Deals” with the West don’t matter because the West goes back on all deals.

It is a mistake to think their leaders care a tinker’s damn about Ukraine or their benighted people in the way they’ve been projecting. Ukraine is simply in the geographical way of what they are really after. And President Putin understands this.
The bold posturing of the feckless, ideologically consumed, and economically/financially precarious West isn’t commensurate with their military capabilities; and President Putin knows this, too. Russia has ramped up their preparations for the long game.
While the West (sans the US for the most part) depletes their resources in terms of money and equipment propping up the corrupt, godless, coke snorting dictator Zelensky.

A couple of times it was too hot traditionally because I used habanero instead of Korean.

But here, Putin is saying that he understands that life is complicated and that he’s willing to have patience despite recent events. Also, I hear him saying that he recognizes and respects Trump’s courage, that he believes his heart is in the right place and, perhaps most importantly, that he likes the fact that Trump has acknowledged that things are harder than he realized. He’s telling Trump that he/we have to be more thoughtful and careful going forward, that the problems of the past are best approached as learning experiences, and that he thinks he has somebody he can work with. What a relief.
He has had the patience of Job while the powers which have brought this whole sorry war to us for their own nefarious reasons have pushed him almost beyond human limits. His patience has been mightily tried and tested, and he has been found not wanting.

Reading Sundance’s commentary brought on a big smile of recollection.
When I was at the academy a few of us beta tested multi-player or multi-team strategy games, military and military-economic types. I was the out of the box guy, so to speak, because at the time it was the height of the Cold War and Vietnam War.
In one game I united the US-USSR in a major alliance and had a non-aggression agreement with China Inc. Team until the “Allies” were defeated … then it was back stab city. Caught everybody off guard because the alignment was just so outrageous for the time period to even contemplate.
Just think if there would have been a friendly “Trump Like” hand offered the Russians in the 1990’s or pre-Iron Curtain rusting through days. I often felt the Russians were looking for friends as things were falling apart but everybody was so focused on burying them.

Putin’s way of speaking is different from his normal. He seems quite subdued. I believe that he knows why Trump rejected his offer to mediate the Israel-Iran war. Besides that there is also the unspoken Nobel Peace prize he thinks PDJT truly deserves – no one has ever done this with countries finding for decades – no peace truce ever lasted – believes PDJT truly wants peace in Ukraine.
Putin mentions working with America to fight Islamic terrorism. That is what Trump has been working for since 2016, but Russia kept stubbornly clinging to its terrorist “allies.”
With Iran crumpled, the biggest remaining Russia-Islamist alliance may be all the Muslim troops Russia has fighting in Ukraine, so solving Ukraine would finally free up that anti-terror partnership Trump has wanted.
But how to solve Ukraine? Trump obviously gets that Russia is far more important to us than Ukraine, and he seems to get that Crimea has to stay with Russia (because Russia will launch nukes before it gives up the warm water port it took from the Turks in 1783, something that EVERYONE used to completely understand).
For the rest of the highly Russified eastern Ukrainian states, some version of Putin’s original plan — that these become independent states where the people are sovereign — will probably be best.
Just letting Russia have these states is almost certainly going to be a bridge too far for the lunatics who have been putting all the blame for the war on Russia. (It was actually started by Obama, with his 2014 coup against Russia-friendly Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich.)
Most importantly, independent states is a good solution, even the ideal solution, for anyone who claims to care about a “rules based international order.”
So long as the people of a state are not aggressing against neighboring states, they should control their own territory.
That standard is not met by the Palestinians. They won’t stop trying to murder Jews, so they can’t have their own state.
The problem with the Donbas states is somewhat similar, in that they are internally divided (the people might not stop waging internal civil war on each other), and their possible external alliances are also fraught with possible conflict.
Here Trump’s new solution for Gaza might provide the necessary model. Let the honest of elections and other constitutional requirements in the new states be overseen by a neutral coalition.
In the Donbas case, this might be the U.S. as a neutral party, and Russia and Eastern Ukraine as counterbalancing interested parties.
The costs of rebuilding could hopefully be funded by exploitation of natural resources and other kinds of economic development, so that our role would not be as piggy bank.
This international oversight might have a set term of say 25 years, to get these states firmly established as sovereign states with honest elections, no weaponization of unequal protection against political opponents, free speech, assembly and association, etcetera.
Use it as an opportunity to establish the ideal model of republican democracy (honest democracy, with the goal of securing “the blessings of liberty,” as our is supposed to do).
Then we can all get on with putting an end to Islamic terrorism.

The definition of those terms is implicit in the idea of the people being sovereign. Sovereignty of the people does not just mean “popular sovereignty,” or majority rule. It means that, as far as possible, the sovereignty of each individual is protected.
This is what the founders of the United States meant by “republicanism”: that the object was, as declared in the Preamble to our Constitution, “to secure the blessings of liberty.”
The concept of “maximum equal liberty” had not yet been introduced, but I think it is implicit in the Declaration’s assertion of God given rights to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”
In this scheme, majority rule is embraced first and foremost as a protection for liberty: that as long as the electorate retains its love of liberty and its understanding of the primacy of liberty, then if a usurper ever does succeed in getting around our system of checks and balances and starts imposing tyranny, we just need to still have our system of honest elections in place, and we can throw the tyrant out by the simple means of voting him out of office.
As for majority rule itself, it is rightly described as “the worst system of government, except for all the others.”
Government power always threatens to be tyrannical, but at least under majority rule it cannot be the majority that is suppressed, while under minority rule, everyone can be suppressed (all but the king or other minority that is doing the suppressing).
So majority rule is better than minority rule, but that’s not saying much. The important thing is to strictly limit what government is allowed to do, only letting it do what is necessary to secure liberty. Basically, that means using government to enforce voluntary relations, not allowing people to coerce each other through force, fraud, or anti-trust.
That standard of voluntary relations is what allows us to define terms like terrorism. Violence can be used only in defense of self or others, or else it constitutes crime, or murder.
Consider Islam, which spreads through violent conquest. That violates voluntarism, and hence is properly regarded as terroristic.
Because Islam has always been the aggressor in its relations with every other people, all of its killings of others have always been murder, while the defensive actions of societies trying to resist Islamic conquest have not constituted murder. They have been justifiable self-defense, or justifiable homicide.
Same for other terms, like Nazi. For any term to be used in a grossly pejorative way, it must be referring to some kind of aggression, in violation of voluntary relations.
On the issue of race, protecting the sovereignty of each individual requires that people be judged for their own actions, not on the basis of their race or other sexual or ethnic group-identity.
Our post-Civil-War constitutional amendments put this requirement into our highest law in the form of the equal protection clause. Every individual is guaranteed equal protection of the laws. That is a guarantee of individual justice, based only on a person’s own individual behavior.
Putin’s comments clearly show that he trusts Trump and trust is the basis for everything good that can happen between America and Russia as well as America and the Middle East!

Personally, I think that President Putin has been the ‘only adult’ in the room for the past four years, while the US was boggled down with Biden, and the western nations continued to have globalist agendas. Putin is aa lawyer, and has led his country through extremely difficult times during the past 20 years, and is greatly respected by a majority of the Russian people. I think he and President Trump get along extremely well, and there is a mutual respect between them. The issue in Ukraine may be a difficult one, as a primary issue is the involvement of NATO on the Russian border. You may have noticed a question yesterday from a Finnish journalist, asking Trump how he felt about Finland in NATO. While it is all very good that NATO nations are now going to contribute their fair share into NATO costs, the issue of NATO encroachment must be addressed….as well as respecting the referenda of the various Ukrainian provinces that voted to become part of the Russian Federation.

Obviously, Trump doesn’t want peace in Ukraine very much – because he could end the whole thing immediately* by ceasing all US support for Ukraine military.
