The need to insert control is a reaction to the fear fthey are feeling, and they are terrified, as well they should be.

Their reign of power is coming to an end, and at this point there is nothing they can do to stop it; its like watching a slow motion landslide.

It would be revealing if Mr. Durov decided to make a fine example of the left by silencing the left, censoring their posts. Then when they claim it to be election interference and want to undo the election, his point is made. The socialist commies heads would explode.

Of course exit polls have shown to be wrong in many elections prior to this one, but given how little we can trust elections in the old West, what chances are there that the counting will be fair in a country known for its corruption??

The Case Against Pavel Durov And Why It’s Critical For Crypto | ZeroHedge:

“On March 13, a French court gave the founder and CEO of the encrypted messaging app Telegram permission to leave for Dubai, where he had previously resided. Durov had been in France since August 2024, when he was arrested at the Le Bourget airport in Paris. Durov was part of an investigation containing allegations of negligence and complicity in crimes like narcotics trafficking, money laundering, child sexual exploitation and terrorism. He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.”…….

That sounds bad, but all it really means is that he won’t give the French Dictatorship the encryption keys to his platform so they can spy on everybody, all the time, like the Gestapo in Paris.

While French President Emmanuel Macron publicly stated that the case is not an attack on Durov, Dmitry Zair-Bek — a human rights lawyer and head of the human rights organization Department One — disagrees.
 
“Durov is essentially being targeted for his efforts to protect users’ privacy and, of course, for his refusal to cooperate with intelligence agencies,” he said. 

Regardless of the motivations, the outcome of the case will have clear implications for future platforms. A conviction could intimidate platforms and executives into more intense moderation to the point of censorship, while a victory could embolden others to abandon obligations to regulators and public safety. 

Durov’s leave in Dubai reportedly extends to April 7. The French prosecutor’s office has not made any public statements regarding the status of the case.” …….

I hope the elections are fair enough in Romania that the conservatives can win (relative is a long term missionary there), but the idea of censorship came as a real shock to those of us who thought we were still in America: How could that happen here?

False information also led to the arrest, conviction and prison sentence of his chief political rival, Marine Le Pen after polls showed him losing the next election to her. Nothing political about that!

This is the same Macron who spread false information about the safety of COVID vaccines and declared his intention of “piss off” anyone who refused to get the jab by not allowing them to go to the movies, eat in restaurants or get on an airplane.

Let’s see how France likes sun light on their behavior. One only wonders what the rest of Europe things about France wanting to control Telegram to “influence” Romanian elections. Which election will France (and the EU) seek to “influence” next; Germany, England, Spain..?

I do hope Mr. Durov is security conscious to the necessary high level and keeps his whereabouts and plans known only to his trusted teams. I don’t know much else about him but I greatly appreciate his dedication to free speech.

Reading Macron’s statement “In a state governed by the rule of law,…” I recalled the conclusion of our Supreme Court Justice who presided over the Nuremberg trials about the rule of law the Judge claimed as their defense in condemning to death of people brought before them during the reign of Hitler. The Justification for the inforcement of Laws has been based on Historical Basis of Laws. (ie. That was the law in my great grandfather’s time, my grandfather’s time, my father’s and so I accept them) Then our Founding Fathers pointed out the Formal Fallacy of Aristotle’s syllogism concerning some people are born slaves thus one set of laws for them and another for me. The Fallacy being the syllogism contained 4 terms and a Valid syllogism contains 3. Our Founding Fathers Justified our Legal System on Natural God Given Right that all men are created equal. The German Government Justified their Judicial System on “Positivism “ (ie. The Law was made by the Legislature thus it Just for a judge to inforce it or I was just following orders.” Judges defense was denied and they were hung. Our Military is taught that an Individual Officer’s duty make a decision and give a command afterwards he knows he may be face charge if his decision is wrong. The person being commanded also has a duty to refuse a command if it is unlawful and will face a court to decide his fate also. The point being “I was just following orders” is no defense. The Basis for “The rule of Law” is the Fundamental Justification a law not who wrote the Law.

Please allow me to express how grateful I am for Mr. Durov, and for the purity of the Truth he continually expresses. He has both my respect and admiration. His story is one that I would love all men to aspire to, embrace and emulate. I truly believe that money is not at all what motivates him, he is guided and motivated by truth, and the well being of his fellow man.

Telegram is the singular large scale free speech platform in the world, that actually represents free speech. Mr Durov has been jailed several times that I am aware of, in his absolutely unwavering insistence on operating the worlds only large scale free speech platform.

My son who is self taught in Russian speaking and writing set me up with Telegram years ago, after which I learned about Mr.Durov and his remarkable story. The world needs more men like Mr.Durov.
