Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost from Chicago has been selected by the papal conclave to become the next pope. Cardinal Prevost was created by Pope Francis in 2023. As the new Bishop of Rome, Cardinal Prevost has selected the name Pope Leo XIV.
(VIA MSM) – Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has become the first-ever American elected as the leader of the Catholic Church — now known by his pontifical name of Pope Leo XIV.
The 69-year-old, born on the Southside of Chicago, is seen as a diplomat of the church and was an important adviser to his predecessor, Pope Francis.
He became a front-runner to the papacy in the days before the conclave began, said Rev. James Martin, a papal contributor to ABC News.
Leo emerged from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica on Thursday evening to throngs of cheering crowds, following the signal of white smoke that emanated from the chimney atop the Sistine Chapel.

Have an open mind about this. The South Side of Chicago is an interesting and big place. The liberals avoid it like the plague, and so do all of the ‘educated’ people so one reads very little about it – anywhere. It has a history and meaning and rhythm of its own. The Catholic schools on the South side of Chicago were the only alternative to the horrid Chicago public schools and almost every well known successful black person form Chicago from the last several generations rose from South side Catholic schools. They have a serious education. And most of the middle-class blacks who became managers and professionals also went to Catholic schools, did well in college and got somewhere.
This very decent group of schools also helped Polish, Lithuanian, Czech and Mexican immigrants move up and on.
They were also decimated in the Vietnam war. One fellow spoke about his 50year high school reunion at St. Rita’s where the new Pope taught. Over 70% of their class died in Nam. Their hatred of Lyndon Johnson is beyond anything I can communicate. Yes, Chicago is always corrupt, and has always had machine politics (usually run by the Irish gangs of the North side) but the basic center decent folk who do a great deal of the real work live on the South side. This half of the city is ignored by the intelligentsia as if it were solid red overfly country.
It has a beat and rhythm of its own — all things are possible. This is a great big unknown.
The Obamas love the South Side so much that they call it their home, and are building their extravaganza “Presidential Center” there.

I remember St. Cajetan’s and St. Barnabas schools. I was very young when we moved to Ohio but I did go to kindergarten (once in a while) and I vividly remember my first and only week in 1st grade at one of those schools.
My 9 older siblings all went to the Catholic schools there. I have fond memories of walking to a local park and going swimming. There were alleys and “backstreets”, and I thought it was odd when we moved to Ohio and the neighborhoods were not designed like that.
As for the new Pope, not much interest since I go to a non-denominational Christian church now.

Don’t bet on it. It is probably most of the reason he was made Pope. If Harris or Biden were in the White House right now, some other Cardinal would probably have stepped out on that balcony today. It sounds like this new Pope may be every bit as much a leftist as Red Francis was. He was appointed by Francis to be a Cardinal (just a few months ago actually), and around 80% of the Cardinals eligible to vote in the conclave were also elevated by Francis. The whole point of him being elected may have a great deal more to do with countering Trump policies and those of other non-globalist leaders than it has to do with any pastoral objectives. Hope I’m wrong, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

I see no indication either of his parents had any connection to Peru before he was born, so he must have acquired it sometime after the church first assigned him to Peru. If an adult U.S. citizen does something to acquire citizenship in a foreign country, what does that do to the U.S. citizenship? I understand some countries require adults to renounce their original citizenship to get their citizenship, but I am not an expert in this area.
