I woke this morning dreaming that I was petting our dog, Brandy.
First of all, I seldom remember dreams. 2nd – Brandy went to Heaven 25 years ago
She was Doc’s faithful hunting and fishing partner

So I wonder if Doc might be in the dream part I don’t remember.

I have a curiosity to share this morning.

At least a week ago (maybe more?) I bought a container of strawberries. Lots in the box cost less than a container of cut morsels (and I am a cheapskate – no denying)

So, I have taken the time to pull the stems and cut them up myself.

What does it say / mean that I still need something like a hoe to get the stems loose and the berries are still solid to cut???

I can aver that they are nothing like the ones I have grown in my various gardens.

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

COMMENTARY FOR ROMANS 8

“The freedom of believers from condemnation. (1-9) Their privileges as being the children of God. (10-17) Their hopeful prospects under tribulations. (18-25) Their assistance from the Spirit in prayer. (26,27) Their interest in the love of God. (28-31) Their final triumph, through Christ. (32-39).

1-9 Believers may be chastened of the Lord, but will not be condemned with the world. By their union with Christ through faith, they are thus secured. What is the principle of their walk; the flesh or the Spirit, the old or the new nature, corruption or grace? For which of these do we make provision, by which are we governed? The unrenewed will is unable to keep any commandment fully. And the law, besides outward duties, requires inward obedience. God showed abhorrence of sin by the sufferings of his Son in the flesh, that the believer’s person might be pardoned and justified. Thus satisfaction was made to Divine justice, and the way of salvation opened for the sinner. By the Spirit the law of love is written upon the heart, and though the righteousness of the law is not fulfilled by us, yet, blessed be God, it is fulfilled in us; there is that in all true believers, which answers the intention of the law. The favour of God, the welfare of the soul, the concerns of eternity, are the things of the Spirit, which those that are after the Spirit do mind. Which way do our thoughts move with most pleasure? Which way go our plans and contrivances? Are we most wise for the world, or for our souls? Those that live in pleasure are dead, #1Ti 5:6|. A sanctified soul is a living soul; and that life is peace. The carnal mind is not only an enemy to God, but enmity itself. The carnal man may, by the power of Divine grace, be made subject to the law of God, but the carnal mind never can; that must be broken and driven out. We may know our real state and character by inquiring whether we have the Spirit of God and Christ, or not, ver. 9. Ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. Having the Spirit of Christ, means having a turn of mind in Having the Spirit of Christ, means having a turn of mind in some degree like the mind that was in Christ Jesus, and is to be shown by a life and conversation suitable to his precepts and example.”

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

in honor of Cursday, another adventure. 😂

there is no way to think of my first dog as other than my Protector.
Protector was a very noble looking dog, big for her breed and sex, 
but otherwise a wonderful representative.

we had travelled 1200+ miles to get to our destination,
Protector rode most of the way lying on the back window ledge –
something i’m sure would get me arrested today. 😆
i was very young, very naive (to the point of dense), arriving at what turned out to be a regular summer job,
coming from quite a comfortable and insulated existence, alone in the wilds of the East Coast,
grooming for rides and a salary at a huge New England show barn.
days started early and sometimes ran quite late.
this was one of those days.

finally finishing up at ~ 9:30p, i just had to take a conformation pony down to her stall
in the lower barn after her bath and once over and i could go home.
Protector, as always, was right beside me.
the upper, main barn was fully lit inside and out.
the lower barns not so much, just one floodlight in the courtyard 
that could barely keep you from tripping over your own feet.
it was very dark that night, no moon, skies were cloudy, first taste of fall in the air. 
as we headed down the steep path, nothing seemed awry.

we were almost to the stalls when, without warning, Protector shot out into the darkness at full speed –
and disappeared.

suddenly i heard a loud, sort of continuous series of bark/growls, 
the kind of sound you hear from a dog truly and aggressively intent on blood.
i advanced only a few steps (i was still hanging on to the pony, remember🥴)
until i could see a big man up against the wall of the opposite barn with his hands up where Protector had him pinned. 
and when i say pinned, i mean 75# lunging at his groin in a very ominous way – and he knew it.

before i could say a word, he started screaming: 
“just call off the dog and i’ll leave….just call off the dog!!”
whereupon i instantly changed her name for situational purposes, and called out “Slash, come!”
she did, but as she got close enough, 
i could see she was keeping an eye on the intruder the whole time.
“i’m leaving! i’m leaving! ” the guy shouted – and did.

it was unnerving, sure, but i didn’t think it was anything more than a common burglary attempt until….

two days later, the barn suffered it’s second fatal colic that season.
one would have been extremely unusual as the care protocols at the barn were exceptionally rigorous.
two was unheard of.
in fact, that whole show season had been plagued by a series of fatal colics and accidents across a number of the biggest East Coast show barns, and reaching all the way into Illinois.

Protector had cornered the horse killer, aka “the sandman”.

looking back on it, i know he was there that night to execute the horse we found dead two days later.
how close a call, IDK.
i wouldn’t have been able to ID him (too dark),
tho he might not have known that.
but no question he was there with evil intent.

that would not be the first time that Protector saved me from great bodily harm or worse –
some humans are harder to train than others.
i firmly believe it was Divine Providence that put us together, for which i am extremely grateful.
love you Protector, thank you for watching out for me.

EVENING PRAYERS

Prayer For Grace At The End Of The Day

Heavenly Father, as the day is drawing to its close I ask that Your continued love and presence be with me and with all that are Your children in Christ. Guard us through the long hours of darkness this night I pray, and keep us safe from all harm and dangers that may try to cross our threshold. 

Give us, I pray, an untroubled night of rest and quietness of heart. May we be refreshed and renewed in body, soul and spirit as we rest our weary hearts in You through the hours of the night. 

Lord, I pray that by Your great grace and mercy, You would grant us untroubled sleep so that we may rise up in the morning strong to do Your bidding. May we all rejoice for the dawn of a new day, knowing that Your mercies are new every morning. In Jesus’ name,

Prayer Of Reflection On The Past Day

Loving Lord, as the day is coming to an end, I want to thank You for being with me in all that has taken place today. I also want to lay the whole day before You, asking that you would show me if there is anything that I have done to hurt or harm another person unknowingly, or if I have done anything that is displeasing in Your sight, or quenched the work of the Spirit in me, so that I may turn away from such things in the days that lie ahead.

Lord, I desire to do Your will in all things. I pray that You would cleanse me of any wrong thoughts or attitudes that may have surfaced in my heart today. Wash me in Your cleansing flood, I pray. 

Thank You, that You are a God who forgives our transgressions when we are willing to confess them to You, knowing that such cleansing before You immediately draws us back into sweet fellowship with Yourself. 

Give me a good night’s rest I pray, and may I rest quietly in Your loving arms in the knowledge that in Christ, I am eternally secure, due to Your amazing grace, for which I praise You. In Jesus’ name,

Prayer Of Thanksgiving In The Evening

Praise Your holy name Heavenly Father, for granting yet another day in my life and for being with me every step of the way. Thank You for the many blessings that You have provided and the love and fellowship that I have with the friends and family that in Your grace You have placed in my life.
 
My heart is so thankful for all the many blessings that I enjoy day by day, and today I am once again reminded that Your mercies are new every morning and Your faithfulness endures from generation to generation.
 
Thank You, that I have been brought into Your family and have been made a child of God and a citizen of heaven. Words cannot express my love and devotion to You Lord
 
I pray that You would watch over me as I rest tonight, and that You would give me a restful night’s sleep so that I may wake up in the morning refreshed in body and spirit and ready to do Your will. Guard all those that I love and may we all grow in grace and in a knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ in the days that lie ahead. This I ask in His precious name,
