CBS 60-Minutes has been one of the most deliberately manipulated news and opinion programs in the past several years. They have been so over-the-top in their gaslighting and biased media coverage, that all credibility within the weekly broadcast TV show has been eviscerated.
Bill Owens has been the executive producer of the show since 2019, specifically responsible for increasing the bias and propaganda openly displayed. President Trump has sued 60-Minutes over their extremely manipulative editing of an interview with Kamala Harris in 2024. That lawsuit is ongoing.
Today, Bill Owens announced he is resigning as executive producer of the broadcast, citing his inability to continue making independent decisions about the subject matter presented on the broadcast.

“Over the past months, it has also become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it,” Owens wrote in a memo obtained by Deadline. “To make independent decisions based on what was right for 60 Minutes, right for the audience. I remember, decades ago, when “60 Minutes” was a go-to show for me. But long ago I began to ignore it. What they call “journalism” is always biased, presenting only one side when the show’s entire concept was originally that it would do otherwise. Maybe a new executive leader can put the show back on track.
I can only recall one memorable episode in the past 20-25 years.
It was 15-20 yrs ago when they did a segment on rare earth minerals.
How we were dependent on China for most of our supply and the ramifications of that situation from a national security standpoint.
There was one small source in the USA at the time.
Due to regulations, etc. it would take years to expand domestic production.
I heard about that episode on s preview, which is why I saw it. Otherwise I stopped watching so long ago I cannot remember.
They were caught editing some thing deceptively a long time ago that I heard about.
I remember when I was a child my and my dad’s favorite part was Andy Rooney at the end.
Those days are long gone. And if I recall correctly, he was cancelled.
Loved Andy Rooney! So did millions of people.
I just watched an old episode of 60 min and Mike Walace exposing the Swine Flu lies and vaccine back in the 70’s. He was really grilling the former head of the CDC. That was when the news media kept govt under some control.
I was for about a season, then their bias started to show.
Over on this side of the pond we have a ‘thing’ called the bbc – better know as the biased BBC.
When reporting from America and specifically about President Trump,they often say “this report from our partner or sister broadcaster CBS” Imagine how fake our news is.
Haven’t watched a single episode since they staged an exploding gas tank on a Chevy pickup truck.
That was it for me.
I can’t remember how long ago that was . At least 25 years.
I think what 60 Minutes did, in that episode, was expose NBC’s rigging of the tests that they had run and that had resulted in the fiery explosion of Chevy or GMC pickup but I must confess to not having the memory I once had.
GM used to mount the gas tanks outside the frame on pickup trucks. Supposedly when hit in the side the tank would explode. 60 minutes liars tried to demonstrate how it happened, but couldn’t make it happen. So what did the evil demons do? The mounted a pyrotechnic device in/on the tank and set it off when the other vehicle hit. Everything they’ve put out has been obviously lying propaganda since. It was before, but they tried to hide their evil, now they don’t try to hide anything evil.
That was NBC’s Dateline in 1992. GM sued NBC.

I once reported a high-profile criminal trial, and CBS was there recording it. One of their producers asked if I wouldn’t mind moving over so they could get their shot of the witness box; “You have really pretty shiny hair, but could you move?”
I went and told the judge what they said, and he told me to only move if I wanted to. I didn’t want to. 🤣🤣
Plus, it would have made it hard to reach the computer to key in on the mics.

My late uncle, an MD, was literally speechless when I told him a few decades ago that I didn’t watch Dan Rather every evening because he was biased.
I recall some of Dan Rather’s exploits during the 2000 election (W vs Algore). First, during the time leading up to the 2000 election, Dan was in charge of the CBS group of ‘journalists’ that published the letters that lied on how Bush had come to be a pilot in the reserves. That the letters were obvious forgeries were obvious forgeries was immediately clear to anyone with the least training in verifying the authenticity of old letters.* These letters were key evidence in their story maligning Bush. To not have them verified was wither a display of incredible incompetence. Or they didn’t need to check further because the ‘evidence’ fit the story maligning Bush that Rather and cronies wanted to tell. Rather clung to the story claiming malfeasance by Bush for the way he got into the reserves was still viable, but after a few weeks had to give in, admit it had no basis without the key letters.
Then there came the ~1 month long legal battles of Bush v. Gore ending in SCOTUS. I recall clearly to the day how Dan Rather was on some CBS news show and one of the first to announce that SCOTUS had decided the case in favor of Bush. It was obvious that it was all Rather could do to keep from bursting into tears – obvious strong bias.
Yup, the MSM bias goes way, way back.
*The letters had supposedly been typed on old-fashioned typewriters. But a proportional font that adjusts the right side of paragraphs to be even had been used. This was only possible if computers had been used to type the letters. Only typewriters, not computers, were available back when the letters had been written. It took all of a few minutes for anyone with much training to identify the letters as forgeries. Copies o the letters were made available online and commenters with the least training were posting, saying the proportional font was clear proof they were forgeries.

I work in a operations center for a 3-letter agency and we have a wall of monitors that includes some news feeds, one of which is CBS. The audio feed into the 100-person center is usually on ABC Live, however.
Luckily, I have access to the control room and the first thing I do when I come on shift is to mute the audio. I don’t know how management thinks we can concentrate on our duties with biased news playing overhead.
Thank God I am retiring soon…

One of the funniest things I ever saw was something we dubbed “the elevator wars” at my old job.
Early-mid 2000’s. The high rise office building had CNN HN on the elevator TV. After complaints, they switched to Fox. That’s when the Libs in the building went ape-shit, leaving hate Post-Its on the TVs. So the building management switched to…MSNBC! That was enough for Conservatives, who returned fire. The building manager then went to Bloomberg News. More hate Post-Its and a broken monitor resulted.
I came in one morning and the elevator TV was showing building announcements and the menu for the restaurant on the 1st floor.
It was glorious!

On X there is a show called “69 Minutes” which gets over 7 million views weekly. I just find it hard to watch any purported “news show” that only presents one side of a multilayer story. It’s like listening to only one person at an accident site. You’re not going to learn anything new; the point is to enhance the pool of eyeballs in the confirmation bias cult.
The only development better than this would be for the FCC to terminate CBS’s license to operate as a broadcast news organization.

We stopped watching 60 minutes so long ago ago I can’t remember – maybe 1990? We stopped watching TV in around 2012. We cut cable in January 2017.
Somehow we manage ro be the best informed most up to the minute people among our neighbors and friends thanks to the internet, podcasts, radio.

60 Minutes has always been a hack show. In the 1980s, my father worked for a company that made missiles for the military in a very small town. The union there went on strike, and 60 Minutes came out to do a hit piece on the company. Never mentioned the theft of nuclear material, or the violence by the union members. It was diabolical and their SOP. They don’t report the news; they make the “news” they want.
Trump has had major issues with ‘60 Minutes” long before this guy even took the reins at “60 Minutes”. Trump’s old enemy there was Don Hewitt who ran the show back in the last century. Hating Trump is in the DNA of CBS News…and always will be unless Rupert Murdoch buys it.

We got rid of cable in 2020 and took the trash out. I could never stomach this program with Leslie Stahl saying her name with that disgusting tone of voice. They have been lying to us since the Vietnam War everyone. Wake up. A number of years back, I came home after witnessing an incident in the street. Put the TV and there was disgusting Peter Jennings talking about the incident. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It was so distorted that I couldn’t recognize what I just witnessed. It was the last time I watched TV news. It was nauseating.

I caught a blip of Andy Cohen on the radio this am and after saying what an incredible Journalist the guy was, like priming the pump, he lied to his entire radio audience by saying Trump was wrong, that the ‘transcripts’ matched what was shown on the show. Of course, they did, that is what show transcripts do, mirror the show as aired. What his sea of fools audience didn’t think to wonder about was if the raw ‘video’ footage matched what was aired, which it didn’t and Andy was careful not to mention it, so he and his listeners could continue skipping down the street going La La La La with dumb grins on their faces.
