In the aftermath of the DOJ manipulating the FISA court to attack President Trump, Chief Justice Roberts needed Boasberg to protect the FISC. As a result, Boasberg sat at the epicenter of some of the worst DC judicial decisions ever. Including the precedent of forcing VP Mike Pence to testify in a grand jury against the accused, President Donald Trump.
Simultaneously, Boasberg did everything he could to fulfill his commitment to Roberts, even appointing Mary McCord, wife of Roberts’ senior staff Sheldon Snook, to be amicus to the court. {GO DEEP}
Yes, Roberts will protect Boasberg, because Boasberg -who Roberts appointed to be presiding judge of the FISC- has major leverage over Roberts.
Boasberg has assembled his shields over years, and CTH has outlined every step. The brutally obvious began surfacing when Boasberg appointed *Mary McCord as amicus to the FISC.

Removal from the bench will not happen thru impeachment. We don’t have the Senate votes to convict. DOJ has asked for his removal in their motion before the Circuit Court of Appeals. Hopefully, they have the Laura Looner info in the motion.
It would be easier and probably faster for Congress to disestablish the Washington DC judicial district and reassign all judges assigned there to lateral positions elsewhere. They could slip that clause into the reconciliation bill so it would only need 51 votes and cannot be filibustered in the Senate.

Roberts certainly decides what cases are appropriate for his Supreme Court, and Congress has no input other than the bully pulpit. To impeach Roberts would probably be a failed issue, but it would tarnish the man’s reputation forever. That shame would be enough to cause most sentient people to head for the hills. Impeachment of Roberts is probably too big a lift. The Dems in the Senate will obstruct for all they are worth and the media will hype it 24/7 as a “Constitutional Crisis!!!”
It might be just as effective to for the House (and if they can do it, the Senate) to censure Roberts for wandering so far out of his lane. Follow that up with a new judicial reform act that drastically cuts back on what the judiciary is allowed to decide.

That “normal appellate process” is obviously broken, and Roberts is a big part of the reason why it is broken. His Supreme Court constantly defends and supports rogue judges at lower levels as they ignore the law and Constitution.

Congress has powers over the judicial branch other than impeaching judges. They created all the courts below SCOTUS, and have the power to abolish any or all of them. Congress also has the power to restrict what subjects the courts may pass judgment on.
