You think you’ve got it bad. I have an Irish last name, but the niece (married to an Irish barrister, by the way) took a DNA test, it turns out we have not a dram of Irish blood. 100% English on my father’s side.
You see, Grandads was born in the East End. After a long sojourn in New Zealand, he swore he’d never go back.
So, on the boat, he met an Irish criminal from London who was running from the law. The guy wanted to go back to his wife and children, so Grandads exchanged identity papers with him and went on to America to meet the future Mrs.

As an amateur genealogist I have seen many proven cases of inheritance with unexplainable differences in DNA . In other words our understanding of genetics still leaves a lot to be desired .

He inherited their family home there from his mother, who had inherited it.
As you describe, this area where the house was had fallen into such decline that he didn’t even want the property.

When I was in Washington DC the week of the January 2017 for the Inauguration, I met a man from Ireland there that made the trip because he was so excited that PDJT won and was set to disrupt the status quo.

Fortunately we have better odds due to our founding.
