Don’t believe that. What about the rancher who shot an illegal invader and was arrested and went to trial in Texas. He was in fear of his life and was protecting his ranch and home. He was acquitted IIRC.

Yes, but I believe that case was in Arizona. After spending far too much time in jail, he was acquitted.

@russvought to pare the federal government workforce to its genuinely essential size, most of which will be at DOD, CIA, NSA, Homeland Security, DOJ. The entitlement checks will still go out but everything else will stop. The employees won’t get paid. And I suspect this time those who are recalled to work eventually won’t get back pay.
The @POTU should also keep the lost cost, high value, high visibility stuff like the Washington Monument, Mt. Rushmore parking lot etc open and not punish the citizenry as President Obama did. But a long shutdown will reveal —in stark terms— what we must have and what can be cut. Don’t be surprised if more than half of the 2.1 million civilian federal employees never come back to work. Don’t be surprised if the Article II authority of the president comes into full play and appropriate and constitutional use.

That was planned in advance, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had his fingerprints on that, as well as Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV).
Someone observed that the exact same printed ( not hand made or different) “Closure” signs appeared all at once in different parts of the country.
Knowing the Federal government’s procurement procedures means those signs were ordered and printed months in advance.
