We attended an indoor soccer game tonight to hear the grandkids sing.
After that I perused the Presidential Thread till we left!
The Elites love soccer because it’s so international (non-American), unlike football, basketball or baseball.
Soccer is a great sport for kids because they get to run around outdoors on a big field and kick a ball. They gain endurance, coordination, and they learn teamwork and social skills. All of my kids played soccer a little and my oldest son married a college soccer player who was a great goalie.
Having said that, it will never achieve the same heights in America as our own sports. Soccer is cross country with a ball, played internationally in front of people who like to fight, riot and burn stuff down-over cross country with a ball! Silliness!
Soccer is way too subjective in the officiating and there are only three of them on the field. The video officials are pure politicians.
It may catch on in an Obama America, but it should never catch on in a MAGA America where objectivity should reign supreme.
American sports are all designed for people to sell you stuff while you watch .
Real football has two 45 min half’s with a 15 min break in the middle . American “football” is a 1 hour game that takes 3 hours to complete comprised mainly of people trying to sell you stuff you don’t need or want .

Competition. Excellence. Pure meritocracy where somebody’s color or family or upbringing matters not at all because skills and heart are the only thing that matter.

Because if they are from a western or European lineage, the struggle will be 10× harder than their parents or grandparents had it.

The average American can have little understanding of magnitude or pure passion for the game

As an 11 year old my grandfather took me to a Scotland v England game. The official attendance was 137,000. ( it was more than that)
While my interest has waned significantly over the years, I still pay attention to the game.
When I see an individual in our Greater Vancouver community sporting a garment adorned with a world famous soccer logo or not even so famous a one.
The wearer is often surprised when I engage in a chat about the team. Invariably the wearer is not if ever of North American decent.
Yesterday it was a guy wearing an Inter Milan B.B. cap. Earlier in the week it was PSG.
That said, it is all about the money at the Premier level, hence my waning interest.
The S.F. 49’rs are in negotiations to invest in Glasgow Rangers, they are already involved with Leeds Utd.
U.S. hedge funds etc and numerous foreign entities own, or are heavily invested in dozens of world famous clubs.
Major League Sports is minor league compared to soccer.
Without exaggeration several billions will tune into the World Cup.

I was once mad keen on American football, watched it “like a man”, as my daughter told someone who asked her if her mother liked football. The kneeling killed that passion, and I haven’t watched another game since.
But when I was living on Wales, I gradually became very interested in soccer/football. Not in any particular club but in general. Where my interest peaked was during the World Cup with each match counting.
For those in the US who have never experienced it, a World Cup is very exciting. Billions who love it isn’t an exaggeration.
I know Barron Trump is a fan and has played. I’m certain his enthusiasm for ” The Beautiful Game” has inspired his father to make this upcoming event an incredible success for us, the host country, in ways that most here can’t yet see.
I for one am looking forward to it.
