During the conflict, these countries may take the interest on the assets, but they can NOT touch the principle.
Once hostilities have stopped, THEN they can cash in the frozen assets, to pay “restitution” to the other side in the conflict, or to countries that lent it support.

From friends of mine in gov’t: payments are being frozen until review of BOTH national security/critical and non-critical contracts are conducted; very few, if any, large contracts are being held to the same scrutiny.
I don’t know where ground truth falls in any of this – just anecdotal information from friends. This is a high stakes game being played – probably as a gambit leading into reconciliation as well as reset of appropriations/allocations. The data verification part of this is obvious – as is the factual gathering for subsequent criminal indictments.
Work is stopping. If there is a major black swan event, the admin will shoulder all the blame.
My rec is to get out ahead of all of this and inform the public exactly what is going on in order to control the narrative/keep the narrative on a truthful path.
The public is being fed information and truth from a fire hose. No one needs to rely on anecdotal information. Action is taking place as quickly as can be done.

“Laws were enacted to prevent Chinese from testifying in court, Japanese from owning land, German from being learned in schools, and Hispanic children from attending integrated schools,” the website says.
I don’t expect *legal* immigrants to become fluent in English overnight, any more than I would be if I moved to Japan or wherever.
Providing support and assistance in dealing with language barriers for *legal* immigrants is fine with me. If we’ve invited them in, I have no problem helping them. Illegal immigrants should expect nothing other than a quick deportation.
What’s NOT fine with me is having government forms in any other language than English.
Also, and this is not primarily a government problem, if you are a reasonable sized company, I expect every single damn person in a customer facing role to be able to speak English fluently and clearly. I don’t expect that if I walk into a hole in the wall ethnic restaurant. But by gosh if I am in a US airport, or a WalMart, or Home Depot, I better be able to have a clear conversation in English with someone behind the counter.
It’s fine if they are willing to deal with language barriers for non-customer facing roles like warehouse– that’s their problem. The minute they put someone that can’t speak clear English talking to me they have now made it my problem.
I don’t think this is unreasonable, and I would expect that if I emigrated elsewhere. Why would a business in Thailand put me behind the counter if I don’t speak Thai? Why would I demand government forms in English?
Let these myriad “charities” do their job and help immigrants with language issues.
My daughter had a friend who was here legally from Columbia. She got served with divorce papers, which with her limited English, she couldn’t understand.
My daughter put her in touch with a local group that helped with such matters.
Laws that prevented Chinese from testifying have nothing to do with English as an official language. There is nothing preventing dealing with a language barrier in a courtroom on an as-needed basis.
I always thought that learning English was a requirement to become a citizen.
