Until DOGE can be hired out to do a deep dive into state and local government spending then I will not consider changing the taxation system in my state.
In Nevada, property taxes can only be increased 3% of assessed value for your primary home every year so that keeps property taxes in line. As an example I pay $1,200 per year for my modest home. We also have no state income taxes. It is very affordable to live here.

I find a lot of value in Bannon’s show, his rants are sometimes too much for me, and I find that since his time at Danbury he is a tad bit more humble. I most appreciate his focus on action by the citizenry, his constant focus on the national risk of our debt, and his guests. So many of his guests are now in the administration so he has more time to fill with rants, for better or worse.

Florida already has put clamps on taxation of homesteads. Those who are getting hit with high taxes are more recent homeowners and those whose properties are second homes or investments.
Florida already has no income tax.
So what is going to support legitimate government needs? Super-high sales taxes? Implement income taxes? “Hidden” taxes on all kinds of other things, such as fuel, phone/internet service, etc.?

Property taxes fall on land owners like me who own a house. It’s the only State tax beside state income taxes that is deductible on the Federal taxes.
If you do away with property tax in favor of something like sales taxes home owners get soaked on the fed taxes.
Whatever you replace the property tax with make sure its deductable.
BTW big paper companies which are really just land companies, like James River, are the ones influencing your opinion on this.

Well….they missed. And in a most publicized way. Now it’s too late. Remember during Trump’s last term when he said “we got ’em all”? Even if, God forbid, they strike at him again it is far too late. The flood gates have been opened, and those closest to Trump are all well aware of what happened in the past and what needs to be done now. Now that things are in motion there’s just no stopping the exposure of graft and corruption that has plagued this nation for decades.
Kennedy famously said he was going to break the CIA into a thousand pieces and cast them to the wind. He made the mistake of trying to do that without sufficient support in his corner. That mistake cost him his life. Trump was almost taken out but they missed. That mistake will cost them. Maybe not their lives, but certainly their existence. The train is rolling. No stopping it now.
My thoughts on property tax:
Locally, the biggest bite from the property tax goes to the school system. So, a large chunk of my property tax on a home valued at X goes to fund schools, and I have no children “taxing” that school system. Down the street a neighbor has a multi family unit also valued at X, and his home “taxes” the school system with 6 children. Why am I subsidizing someone else’s choice to have children? I understand the hesitancy for state income taxes. How about local income taxes to fund the schools that is not tied directly to real estate? If you, with children, are taxed more directly, then if you move your tax money goes with you to fund your children’s education at their new school.
We do need property taxes to fund the maintenance of the infrastructure. If my multi story high rise home causes the fire department to go out and by a ladder truck that can reach the roof then I should pay a bit more than the neighbor with a single story home where you can access the roof with a short step ladder.
Well, the argument for the longest time is that education is a benefit that helps all of society. When you have an educated population, they can get better jobs, be more productive and contribute more to society, effectively being a net plus.
So, this is why it’s structured that everyone pays for the educational system. I believe, there IS some truth to that argument.
I also believe, that if the schools were run properly and efficiently it would cost much less. I also believe if the schools were churning out highly educated students, which it’s not, most people would just swallow the real estate taxes and be fine.
Whats not okay, is paying all of these exorbitant real estate taxes AND having such an abysmal record of educating the students. It’s a DOUBLE loss.
Americans would be fine paying—if the VALUE was there. It’s not. Instead, we are paying for bloated, ineffective bureaucracy and corrupt unions. Even THAT was acceptable—as crazy as THAT sounds, for decades (probably around the time the Department of Education was formed at the national level—by the 3rd worst president, Carter).
The straw that’s breaking the camels back, so to speak, is they aren’t even teaching our children what an exceptional country this is—instead they are indoctrinating them to hate this country (where do you think this whole generation of teachers came from? The previous generations teaching them this crap).
Additionally, they want to push the gender agenda AND do it BEHIND parents backs. If that’s not bad enough, they want to “protect” kids from their parents. Isn’t it ironic that the people saying a 6 year old (or even 9 year old) knows enough to make their own decisions, but they are SCREAMING YOU can’t have these YOUNG genius 20 something kids at DOGE.

THAT is the crux of the matter.
We, too, have been paying huge property taxes for 50 years with no children in schools. Of course, the argument that someone paid taxes for us to go to school is valid. However, we went to local public schools for 12 years, not 50. I’m wondering if there could/should be a “time limitation” on private property taxes. It might be okay when you are in your income earning years but if you stay in your home well after retirement it seems to be an unfair burden that many cannot afford.
And, surely there could be an equitable method of ensuring non-property owners, with children using the public school benefits such as breakfast and lunch, health programs, etc, to pay their share…even if it’s “sweat labor” in some form. There are a lot of public roads that need trash picked up, school hallway floors that need waxing, etc. if renters cannot pay some sort of school tuition for their children attending schools.
Property taxes are slavery. You never truly own your property when your overlords can seize it and sell it if you don’t pay fealty.
Find another way to fund services and schools. At a minimum someone’s primary residence should not be taxed. Maybe sales tax when the property is sold.

I wonder what food stamps pays for, say, for a family of 6? Back in the day, when I was as poor as a church mouse and had four little children to feed, I bought the cheapest food I could find and made it stretch. A whole chicken for 49 cents a pound, cooked it up, and made 3 casserole dishes using pasta as a filler. And a couple of pounds of the cheapest hamburger I could find and made a pot of chili and a pot of spaghetti sauce, using pasta or rice in large quantities as the sides. Vegetables were cheap back then, and so was fruit.
But TODAY, all those things are insanely expensive, and you still need breakfasts (eggs were cheap, now they’re insane), and lunches, etc. I don’t think food stamps stretch enough to purchase high quality food.
If I were in charge of the “system”, I would fine a way to incentivize the healthier alternatives, and I wouldn’t allow the “system” to buy soda and highly processed foods. People would scream because they are used to the awful, non-nutritious foods, and many are very obese due to it, and not in good health. This is what I’m hoping RFK Jr does, somehow.

I have heard from several senior citizens who are low income and live in subsidized senior housing that when they applied for food assistance they were told they would get $35 a month. Can you believe that? What can you even buy for that? And yet the illegal immigrants live high off the hog but our seniors are supposed to live on $35 a month for food.
It’s not meant to be one’s entire food budget. It’s called “supplemental” for a reason.
I’m not saying the $35 dollars is the right amount, I’m saying that the poorest people get other money.
If we’d quit giving SNAP to everybody and anybody, we could give a higher amount to those who depend on it.

They gave me $10 a month. I used to go to Wal-Mart and buy a fresh pizza you could bake yourself. Four meals. You had to take the food stamps if you needed Medicaid.
Besides EBT, medicaid has health plans where you also get food credits as well as rewards for “healthy pursuits”.
I have been talking to some of my senior neighbors, relatives and friends and they are all saying Biden gutted a lot of those extra help programs that they had been doling out. They say the amounts they used to get have been slashed or the programs done away with. They were told the drug companies used to pony up the money for the extra help but now the insurance companies are the ones it was shifted on to and they are not being as generous. They also tell me they are paying a lot more for prescriptions, doctor visits, tests and copays. They are not very happy about it and who can blame them?
Search “SNAP guidelines <your state>” for starters. Around here, above $1300/month not inclusive of school lunch, charity food pantries, or other sources. Anecdotally I see people getting their real food that way and then using the card to buy junk, luxury food, or like the above examples trade for cash or whatever.
The ‘professional’ welfare people know how to game the system to be well fed and use fraud, misuse, and barter to get what they want. It’s the regular people who fall on hard times, thinking about purchasing nutritious meals and aren’t connected, and playing by the rules, who find things hard.
We had a Victory Garden.
Mom would only buy meat flour butter and milk.
She made the pasta and bread herself.
We kids tended the garden -including making the raised beds and planting- if we didnt do chores mom would fry up some chicken for dad and give us plain peanut butter sammiches and plain milk for supper.

No picnic being on that kind of welfare. You didn’t get to “pick” anything. You took what they gave you.

Long overdue .. price competition in stores hasn’t brought healthier foods. The expensive ones prevail although there are a couple of those which still charge their storebrand exorbitant prices, with expired and soon-to-expired goods on shelves and in bins without any reduction in prices.
I ate eggs (I had 6 hens) and oatmeal. It is a pretty fantastic diet. I got down to skin and bones in six months. My boss (a doctor) gave me money and demanded I go across to the cafeteria and buy a bagel.

Yes!!! When my mom had food stamp assistance in the late 60s early 70s we got plain cereal like corn flakes, rice krispies, powdered milk, tang oj mix, white bread, gubmint cheese, eggs. With vouchers to get only those items for free. The rest you bought with your own money. It was embarrassing to hand that stuff to the cashier. Nowadays here’s your debit card to to easily run thru the machine with xxx balance. No one’s the wiser, it’s “free” money and you buy Steak and sodas all the ultraprocessed food you want.
The government cheese was better than any grocery store cheese. I wish I could find it today.
