In the “future world,” the USA is going to have to compete. While there are many very-interesting ways by which it can do that, the one thing that it cannot now do is to: “not compete.”
Nations around the world have finally realized that they can trade among themselves, and settle their payments, without resorting to “a common currency,” whether it be US$ or Euro. And, that there are very compelling reasons not(!) to do so.
You can’t change this. And, if you are brave enough to accept this change, you can prosper. “Okay, you’re not ‘the hegemon’ anymore.” What now?
Otherwise, you’re gonna be staring at “We won World War II,” while the rest of the planet has since moved on.

There’s a great discussion, starting just before the 8 minute mark, about foreign governments weakening their currencies in order to manipulate their trade. The main culprit is China which is currently trying to export its way out of its recession

Trump just established a U.S. Sovereign Growth Fund, just like the Sovereign Wealth Funds already being used by Asian & European treasury departments to buy dollars to weaken their currencies and manipulate trade. Bessent may be indicating that Trump’s fund will counteract these currency-weakening attempts. When combined with the end of the “De minimus” loophole, Trump’s tariffs will become more effective trade balancers in the trade war with China.
