I saw on the interwebs that the flight had some coaches and figure skaters from the US team. They were headed to an advance training. So sad if true.
All of these people were lost the instant the collision occurred.
At this point I’m hugely grateful that rescue divers, sent into dangerous broken unpredictable rubble in 35* water, at night, were not also lost. Though they kept talking about a “rescue” operation last evening it was obvious from the outset that it was only ever a recovery operation. Though I confess to having held out a remote hope anyway.

I think it sounds like the other ATC folks in the tower reacting to the collision, which makes me question whether the person talking was a pilot.
Looking at the track map it looks like the helicopter turned right into the plane rather than left to pass behind it as instructed.
The speaker in this video mentioned that the helicopter was a “training flight”.
I am not saying that this was the fault of the helicopter crew but I have noticed that sometimes when a person is nearly competent but not fully trained, the people supervising that person lose vigilance in their supervision especially when more than one person is doing the oversight of the trainee. Each assumes that the other one is really watching.

I’m guessing the helicopter pilot confused the background lights with minimal sidelights (right angle approach) from the commercial plane. I also guess that the helicopter pilot was “locked onto” the lights of the departing jet.

If a federal worker is actually at work (and not on authorized break) he/she is not allowed to be on social media of any kind while on the clock, and if caught they are supposed to be reprimanded. While I was in federal service, we had get spanked, and a few were fired with cause. Each federal office has a tech crew that can look at any employee’s key strokes and see exactly where they have been while on a government computer.
The spanking was worse and firing soon followed in Commercial Industry if one uses “company assets” for personal business and pleasure at ANY TIME.
We were monitored by company security. My immediate Director was even given annotated telephone call logs by security.
My understanding at the times was that the same applied for Government Employees.
In today’s I/T environment, the Government will know the exact identity of those posting if they used their Government provided devices.
Someone else from yesterday made a very good point about fedgov employees working from their home computers that I hadn’t considered and haven’t read about – the SECURITY of government data. NOT that even at work the data is adequately secured, but I suspect that a million home PCs as leaking sources and access points for systemic compromise would be even worse.
Most of them are working from home. They are probably doing this on their personal desktop or laptop, or on their mobile device. Thus, there are no keystrokes on their federally issued devices.

The United States Air Force Academy in Colorado has removed the “Diversity and Inclusion Studies” minor from its official list of “majors and minors.”
The minor was available on the website as late as Jan. 9, but as of Jan. 24 is no longer being offered.
The faculties, staff and associate “visiting” professor contracts at ALL the service academies need to be cleaned up. The policies, curriculum and programs at ALL the Academies as well as motto changes must be rolled back to pre-OBAMA (2007 minimum).
I still remember that picture of a West Point Cadet with writing on the inside of his cover saying “Communism will win” making the rounds on social media.

You are wrong. The control tower told that pilot of the airplane to make a dog-leg left turn and land on the shorter runway. The control tower is heard asking the helicopter if they see the airplane ahead of them.
I ‘m guessing the helicopter pilot fixated on the plane that was taking off.
The passenger jet was on final at 300 – 400 Ft.
This is going to be 100% copter pilot fault.

President Trump ordered a 90-day freeze on discretionary spending.
The Office of Management and Budget issued a memo on how the departments were to implement the order. (standard procedure)
The demongods ran to their foreigner judge and got an order to halt the implementation of the memo but not the executive order.
President Trump rescinded the memo thereby doing away with the judge’s order but the president’s executive order is still in full effect.

When one flies into DFW Airport and/or Love Field, you pass over several large, man made (Some were 1930’s CCC Projects) reservoirs/lakes of water that supply the growing North Texas urban sprawl. Also, there is the flood control projectr related to the Trinity River that flows through the area. Say what you want about Texas’ “Purple” State Government … the North Texas Water Authority would be one to study.
Exactly! The water supply system for New York City is almost 200 years old. The water comes from the snow and rainfall in the Catskill Mountains and is captured in reservoirs and lakes that feed the water to the city.
