Last night in the confirmation vote for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Mitch McConnell voted no. In an almost identical way to former Senator John McCain refusing to repeal Obamacare, Mitch McConnell ends his time in the senate with a very planned, purposeful and public rebuke of President Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the military.
Do not overlook that Senator McConnell intentionally waited, just like McCain, to cast his ‘nay’ vote until the end of the vote call. McConnell did this with purpose and public intent, just like McCain. Vice-President JD Vance then steps-in to a 50/50 vote to cast the tie-breaking vote.
Mitch McConnell now exits the chamber as Pete Hegseth is now confirmed despite him.

Mitch McConnell says he plans to finish out the last two years of his Senate tenure but God may have other plans.
Nearly two years ago, McConnell suffered a concussion after a fall in his hotel room and a few months after that he froze for a full 30 seconds during a news conference and had to be led away…a month or so later it happened again!
His office says Mitch was just light-headed but what else are they going to say? Doctors have speculated that he’s either suffering lingering effects of traumatic brain injury from the concussion or the fall triggered Parkinson’s Disease or both.
Old Mitch turns 83 in February, making him nearly a year older than Biden. I’d be surprised to see McConnell finish out his Senate term but, then again, the U.S. seems to have a soft spot for letting senile politicians who barely know who they are , finish out their terms.

I keep thinking about Trump holding the rally in Kentucky to help McConnell win once again back in 2020, while McConnell was no doubt simultaneously scheming with democrats to install Biden as president. McConnell is a truly despicable man. Trump is being very careful here because although McConnell voted against Hegseth in the final vote, he DID vote to invoke cloture and prevent the filibuster on Pete’s nomination, so he is playing ball to a certain extent. Trump is being really good at suppressing his anger though, and it’s helping him win. I thought that Thune was going to be acting as a McConnell operative but he seems to be his own man.

I watched the Hegseth vote drama on a PBS YouTube channel. Besides seeing “Old Crow” McConnell shuffling off by himself after Vance took care of business, I noticed Collins and Murkowski sitting together, alone, in the back of the senate chamber. It was like the three of them were lepers and no one wanted to come near them. Not even the democrats with whom they aligned. How are those thirty pieces of silver working out for you three?
They must be annoyed they had to split it three ways!

I hope Trump tells Thune to remove him from all his high ranking committee assignments. But Trump may wait until the end of next week because there is a wave building from around the country where even skeptical Ds are having to admit DJT is a great president. But, we will see.
