I lived for nearly 50 years with the knowledge that each time I “showed up” for work that I was subject to drug and alcohol testing, first as a military officer and then as a commercial airline pilot. The military reasoning was it was against the UCMJ, the commercial piloting reason was that I was responsible for innocent lives and therefore should be sober while their lives were in my hands. There are many others in our society that are subject to the same standard….but NOT those who are politicians! I have written dozens of letters over the past twenty or so years to my congress critters proposing that they sponsor laws that would require those in congress to subject themselves to the same standard that I had to meet, i.e., they are voting for laws that will affect the lives/well-being of millions, shouldn’t they be sober when doing so? No surprise, there has been zero actual response/action beyond the normal blah, blah, blah that one always gets from the self-serving, self-important, generally criminal individuals who inhabit congress. After all, who are you to question me? Sadly, the alcohol and drugs are only a part of their deviancy. I offer the recent sodomy video in the senate conference room as an example.
