In September 2024, Newsom signed a bill into law that would allow them to subdivide a lot zoned for “single family” use to be REDEVELOPED as a multi-family building if it is vacant, abandoned and uninhabitable.
So, every structure that burned down can be REDEVELOPED into multi-family or low-income housing. This goes into effect July 2025. Convenient timing, huh?

I have no doubt that speculators will try to buy up land from those who have limited resources and were without insurance or simply can’t wait. But many of these houses weren’t of that sort. So for these folks, if they’re smart, and sit in the middle of some speculator’s proposed development, they will see their potential return rise well above “fire sale” prices.
Meanwhile, it’s 2025. There’s no way that California, the state that cannot manage to repair the cover on a reservoir, or finish its train to nowhere, etc., and with umpteen gazillion regulations, is going to be able to rebuild much of anything, not to mention basic infrastructure, in time “for 2028”. Newsom at best is “blowing smoke”, and at worst, sounds like he could be on the verge of a psychotic break.

P.S. If you are a developer (or global investor), you might seek to buy up land on spec to hold for a while if you can get special government breaks on taxes. But will you want to rush in and pour money into building anything until the water, fire risk, electricity, and insurance issues are fixed? I tend to doubt it.

Fire departments have reserve equipment. Frontling equipment goes out-of-service all the time.
When our normal engine was out-of-service, we’d ask the mechanics all the time when we’d get our engine back, most common response: 2 weeks.
California has a large mutual aid system. You still need to run the everyday calls. Strike teams (for engines it’s 1 BC and 5 engines) will come from all Southern and Northern California.
I can’t remember the year, but somewhere between 2009 and 2012 when Northern California was burning, we (Riverside County – in the southwest portion of CA for those not familiar) had over 10 strike teams out of (50+ engine companies). What was cool is a strike team from the Seattle area made it down. Our command center put them at our busy fire stations and ran their asses off. They had a lot of fun. In fact, they could do RSI (rapid sequence intubation) and actually saved one of our own guys who had an accident off-duty. Their medics having that protocol helped save him.

Not sure how I feel about this one.
A lot of these pedes may be encouraged to “get rid of the evidence” by killing the child they abuse.
Frankly, I’d feel better about jailing them, and letting the jailed population take care of the problem.
I agree… sending them to jail would be torture and then they will die anyway. Win win!
True. They do not execute rapists because IF the punishment for murder is the same for rape then there is no incentive to leave the victim alive.
Most state and several federal prisons have special pedo units where they are kept away from the general population.
Maybe *that* is what Congress needs to work on changing!
I have a stepdaughter who is in and out of jail, drugs. She is in jail now for violation of probation. The prison has a required reading book list that all inmates must read. She calls it the Book Club. The women had to read a book titled Saving Noah. She knows I am an avid reader and gave it to me to read. She did not tell what the book was about. I do not know if this book is fiction, or a fictional book based on a true story, but it was heart wrenching. It is about a mother dealing with having a pedophile son. All I can say is his mother brought him into the world and it as her who helped him end his life.

“I’ve been in conversation with a couple of retired generals to explore what we can do,” Jamie Mannina, advisor to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, former FBI Special Agent, and self-proclaimed “spy hunter,” disclosed to an undercover OMG Journalist his plans to utilize irregular strategies to undermine Donald Trump’s presidency.
Mannina also described his “ghost writing” with a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization, National Security Leaders for America, saying, “What we were doing was we were trying to explain to the American people the national security consequences of another Trump presidency.”
He elaborated on his recent activities, saying, “Since the spring, I was working with these retired generals, retired ambassadors,” adding, “They’re like one, two, or three-star generals and admirals. You probably know maybe four stars.”
He acknowledged the organization’s ultimate goal, emphasizing, “This organization tried to defeat Donald Trump.”
Mannina further revealed that he was participating in a “huge meeting with military leaders; in a very secure room called ‘The Tank.’” The Tank is a nickname for the Joint Chiefs of Staff Conference room which is a (SCIF), a Compartmentalized Information Facility.
Discussing the focus of these meetings, Mannina shared that “the United States has specialized in artificial intelligence and emerging technology, quantum, [and] cybersecurity.”
He elaborated on the potential of quantum technology, stating, “Quantum is incredibly fast, super-computing. That doesn’t yet exist, but will soon exist, and when it does, it will change everything.”
Addressing the broader challenges in advancing these technologies, Mannina stressed, “We need to overcome a lot of bureaucratic obstacles.” He underscored the importance of fostering international cooperation, stating, “We need to work better with partners.”
He added, “International partners need to, you know, think creatively to avoid overclassification, which really prohibits the ability to share information across their retailer.”
Mannina also made critical remarks about Pete Hegseth, a Fox News correspondent and rumored candidate for Secretary of Defense.
Mannina alleged that Hegseth has “a drinking problem,” claimed he “cheated on all his wives,” and referenced unspecified sexual assault allegations.
When questioned about Hegseth’s qualifications, Mannina expressed skepticism about his potential role in government, describing him as “an alcoholic” with a history of troubling behavior.

According to NBC News, each of the tech executives will be seated on the platform for Trump’s inauguration. Zuckerberg, who founded Facebook and is the CEO of its parent company Meta, recently dropped all DEI initiatives as well as announced that Facebook and Instagram will be ditching fact-checkers in favor of an X-style community notes system and will be starting to eliminate policies that censor social media posts.
In addition to this, Zuckerberg announced in a video last week Meta is “going to work with President Trump to push back on governments around the world that are going after American companies and pushing to censor more.”
Bezos, Amazon’s founder, was recently seen dining with Trump at Mar-a-Lago and his company also recently dropped some of its DEI programsfollowing Meta’s decision. In addition to this, as owner of the Washington Post, the paper chose not to endorse Kamala Harris ahead of the election when the paper had been endorsing Democratic candidates for years.
The three are among the wealthiest people in the world and in the United States with a combined net worth of $885 billion.
