Doug Collins, Doug Burgum and Pete Hegseth were all scheduled for committee confirmation hearings today (January 14). However, as noted in the statements and activity by Democrats in opposition, including Senator Chuck Schumer, they wanted to focus on targeting Hegseth first.
Well, what coincidentally happens? The FBI reports on Collins and Burgum are coincidentally delayed, and as a result there will only be one confirmation hearing today… and that will be for Pete Hegseth. Huh, imagine that?

Senate Veterans’ Affairs Chair Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) said in a statement Monday that Collins has submitted necessary paperwork in a “timely manner” and has been “transparent and forthcoming” with the panel. However, he added, the FBI has not finished its background check of the nominee, who was supposed to have his confirmation hearing on Tuesday morning.
It’s the second Trump selection in a single day to see their hearing delayed due to paperwork delays. Doug Burgum, Trump’s pick to run the Interior Department, was the first: He had been slated for a hearing Tuesday, too, but it was bumped to Thursday. (read more)

[In the mid-90’s I was contacted by a representative of the DOD doing a background check on a neighbor and friend up for a promotion in the Army National Guard. As I was answering the myriad of questions which were variations on “has this guy or his family engaged in behavior which could compromise and subject him to blackmail by foreign enemies” … it occurred to me that our POTUS and Commander-in-Chief at the time — one William “Bubba” Clinton — would not have passed a DOD background check. And don’t get me started on his traitorous “wife” …]

The real question is: Will the fear of being primaried in the next election be stronger than whatever the swamp will threaten them with.

This is actually good. Of the three, I believe he’s the one to fight the most and NOT back down. I also believe he’s the most prepared for it, not only because of his military background, but because he’s known this FROM THE MOMENT he was selected.
This, indeed, will shape how the nominations proceed. If he doesn’t give one inch and he IS NOT confirmed, it’ll out the republicans as the trash they are. This will tell 47 everything he needs to know. They are either going to support his picks—AND AGENDA, or they are not.
If the senate trash republicans were SMART, they would’ve started with the trash pick of their fellow trash republicans—Marco Rubio. They could have fawned all over him and pretended to SUPPORT 47 and his picks. They could’ve then come up with another trash pick, like Bondi and fawned over her.
This would’ve shown false support for 47. It would’ve given them some cover. We approved your picks that were “great” for America. We just can’t support these other picks which show “questionable” judgement, or whatever.

The Senate has pretty much decided, by bowing to Democrats’ demand of ‘normal procedure’, that nominees must have FBI background checks in order to be considered.
