Since the Senate is where the Electoral College votes are counted and certified, it really doesn’t matter if the Speakership is not decided today.

The votes are counted in a joint session of Congress-House and Senate. If the Speakership is undecided the vote count and certification cannot be conducted because the House would be prohibited from organizing into session.
If the Speakership is still undecided on January 20 then Chuck Grassley, as president pro tempore of the Senate, would take the oath of office and serve as acting president. The Presidential Succession Act of 1947 proscribes that.
It’s irrelevant what our “feelings” are about Mike Johnson. Doesn’t matter. He’s the only person in the House who has a chance at winning the vote for Speaker. We might have a personal favorite that we like better but, whoever that person is, they have no shot at winning the vote.

1. Elect Johnson to the Speakership.
2. President Trump promises Johnson that, at the first sign of traitorous spinelessness, he will throw Johnson to the wolves.
3. AFTER the inauguration, follow through. Throw Johnson to the wolves and have a knock down drag out fight for the Speakership.
4. TODAY-elect Johnson Speaker of the House. #1-3 can all happen AFTER the inauguration.

If it were my “House Rules” to make, the Speaker would be chosen by lot, for a six-month term, and the position would not have the parliamentary powers that it now has. The VP has no official duties. So from that point of view, he’d be doing something useful.
But Congress is never going to approve a member of the Executive branch to be both President of the Senate (tie breaking votes) AND House Speaker where he would get to decide which of Trump’s legislative priorities will be advanced.
The SotH has enormous power. Recall how Paul Ryan blocked subpoenas by House committees investigating Obama and also the Russia hoax investigations. And he pushed Amnesty and a failed Obamacare repeal.
Congress won’t do it.

I generally think that the role of “Speaker,” in both chambers, should be redefined – and greatly reduced in power. Right now, the Speaker essentially controls what can be “brought to the floor for a vote.” This discretion and power should not be his. It should properly belong to every Member.
By finally expelling a Speaker before the end of his term, the House cautiously began a precedent. Both the House and the Senate set their own “rules,” and I think that some of these “rules” should now be changed.

What is the tactical strategy for purging Satan’s agents and assuring that this Fourth Turning is recognized as a victory for Christian Civilization (which is not the same as Christian nationalism)? The complications are immense, because Satan’s Agents are embedded in most of our institutions.
We have to give our Commander In Chief a chance to deliver. Johnson is a weak man, and history will not remember him. I just ask that we give The Donald a chance to deliver on his promises to restore the rule of law, secure our borders, and restore economic sanity. He is not even in office yet.
Pick your battles. You can’t complain about everything that is wrong and then screw President Trump as a result. TRUST your favourite President to do the right thing. Discussing it is great, but you know that there is no other Republican that can get enough votes so vote him in and get President Trump sworn in.
Trump should run for Speaker. You don’t have to be a member of Congress to be elected.
A more effective and eminently more practical solution is to put JD Vance up for Speaker of the House with the expectation he would serve the role concurrently with his roles as Vice President of the United States and President of the Senate.
If that strategy became successful in garnering the votes of 218 Republican, JD Vance would become the most busy — and by far the most important — VP in American history.
He’s already President of the Senate.
It will not happen. It’s a separation of powers problem. The Constitution’s ineligibility clause specifically prohibits simultaneous Executive and Legislative Branch jobs. While never tested 1) Congress simply would never consciously vote to give that much power to the President and 2) even if they went crazy and did so, it would lead to IMMEDIATE court challenges that would last for years.
It’s a dumb idea and I wish people would stop suggesting it. It requires a level of ignorance about our political system that is difficult to fathom.

I think this has been the uniparty plan since Trump was elected. Cheat a few democrats into office in congressional races in CA and other places to close the gap while everyone is focused on the presidential race and then use Bushies, Ukraine-firsters, and McConnellites like Roy, Spartz, and Massie to throw the House speakership to Jeffries and keep Pres. Trump from being certified. Then the unipartiers can hide behind “the democrats did it” trope and avoid getting thumped in the next election.

There are a lot of interesting ideas on this thread about how the right wing of the UniParty bird should handle the vote for Speaker. Sadly, there are several immutable facts that get in the way of those ideas.
1. If the House delays selecting a Speaker, they will delay electoral vote certification. Delay long enough and say hello to President Grassley.
2. You say you don’t like Johnson. Neither do I. I think he’s weak and corrupt. Doesn’t matter. Name ONE other person in the world that the UniParty Republicons will unite around to achieve a majority vote. Hint-that person doesn’t exist.
3. Certification is on Monday. The Speaker vote better be put to bed by then. Vote for the clown from Louisiana and save the arguing until after the inauguration.
As I remarked above, Speaker Johnson’s past history of constant and continuing betrayal of both his constituents and of the larger MAGA movement is all but certain to be repeated in the new Congress.
Neither the man nor his staff can be trusted not to take another stab at thwarting the MAGA legislative agenda. If Johnson remains Speaker, what should be done after January 20th in response to these upcoming all-but-certain to occur betrayals?

Certainly, as the armed services draw from the full spectrum of American culture, some certain percentage of new recruits will prove to be inadequate for the role in some form. But again, from recruiting until unit acceptance, these guys (Green Berets in particular) EARN the trust they’ve received.
So, now review the story, i.e. active duty Green Beret who from reports, is a Trump supporter, goes home for Christmas, has a row with his wife, leaves the house, rents a Telsa, and goes to Vegas to commit a terrorist even, by blowing up a Trump property, with an amateur IED that HE HIMSELF WOULD HAVE LAUGHED AT back in Germany a week earlier. Could it happen?
