In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar,
when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea,
and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee,
and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region
of Ituraea and Trachonitis,
and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene,
during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas,
the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the desert.
John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan,
proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,
as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah:
A voice of one crying out in the desert:
“Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths.
Every valley shall be filled
and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
The winding roads shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”

May the whole world hear, believe and honor the words of those who came before…that prepare us…the babe who leapt in Elizabeth’s womb…
I am still very moved by yesterday’s services at Notre Dame…a place of worship that honors the Mother of God.
Same here!
It was a joyful and glorious occasion.
I was almost to point where you get
so choked up..you know any moment…
your gonna cry.
I wonder if it will have YouTube live
for Christmas…that would be fantastic!
What really got to my heart….the bells…
Today is the consecration of the church.
How appropriate since Dec. 8th is usually the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a beautiful feast of our Blessed Mother.
AVE Maria!
It’s also the Feast of Christ the King, instituted in 1925 by Pope Pius XI for the specific purpose of combating fascism and its first cousin, communism.
This is the hymn that is traditionally sung at the conclusion of the Mass on that Sunday.
Correction. This is off by 2 weeks. The Feast of Christ the King was celebrated on November 24 this year.
When I was growing up, it was always on the last Sunday in October. Pope Paul VI changed it to the last Sunday of the Roman Catholic liturgical year in 1969.
The first Sunday of Advent is the beginning of the new liturgical year.
I loved it too.
Greetings Treepers!
Let’s worship!
God the Father. God the Holy Spirit. God the Son.
The triune, triumphant GOD!
🙏✝️🙏
Menagerie, will you be doing a recipe thread for Christmas?
Happy Second Sunday in Advent.
Planning on it. Probably ten days or so before Christmas so that we all have time to shop. Maybe I’ll do an appetizer or treat post first, for people who have parties to attend or like to make gifts or bake with the grandkids. Maybe even a craft or two for the kids.
Jesus Christ is the salvation of God!
Dimanche 8 décembre à 10h30 : Messe de consécration de l’autel de Notre-Dame de Paris
The French designer Clerical Robes were far from traditional garb; had to get the colors of the ‘rainbow’ in the service? Not very subtle and definitely not ‘Traditional’…….too bad the Church uses such an occasion to show it’s true colors??……..
Reminded me of the 9/11 memorial in black Mecca marble……
Does PC in action and history really honor the right reasons for the memorials?? Or is the statement a slap in the face of reason??
God Help US
At least Francis stayed home.
Today is also the Feast of the Immaculate Conception
That is, Immaculate Mary Who reigns now in Heaven with Jesus our King.
Thank you.
On the traditional calendar, the Immaculate Conception out ranks 2nd Sunday in Advent. Both are important, especially now.
My wife was hoping for a two-fer, but in this diocese Immaculate Conception is a day of obligation tomorrow.
Then they have also elevated Our Lady of Guadalupe in recent years so that is sort of a major day as well.
“O holy, patient, and loving God, in this season of grace-filled longing, we await the coming of your Son and our Savior. It is difficult for us to remember that this is a holy time. There are many distractions: commitments seem to pile up, and expectations are high. In the midst of our busy world, our busy lives, we need your help to remind us of what is important and necessary. While many of those things that we do not need will come to us in packages gleaming and bright, the one gift that will last comes from you alone, gracious God, as we grow in our awareness of your love. Bless us, our family and friends, and the food and the company that we share. Increase in us a growing urgency to celebrate the birth of your Son, in whose name we pray. Amen”.
Thank you, Dear Lord, for the gift and blessing of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The cleansing and healing are so real and so profound, as they were for me today. Let me properly prepare to welcome you this Christmas! In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, amen.
And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Luke 1:26-35
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6
The angel said: Hail kecharitomene — she who has always been graced to the full. A unique and very interesting word that Luke used. Tim Staples talks about that in detail in his book: behold, your mother
How fitting that the Second Sunday of Advent is the celebration of peace!
The 4 Sundays are: Hope, Peace, Joy, Love…….
proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,
For our soul, for our nation, and for the world – We need repentance to receive the Lamb of God.
What a blessing you are, Menagerie, and to so many. Your posts are an important part of my Advent season.
Praise be to GOD!
Amen !
from The Collects, for the Second Sunday in Advent:
“Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning; grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience, and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which Thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.”

What an interesting Scripture.
An interesting letter from Ireland on how some of “our” ancestors spent their days and prepared for Advent and Christmas:
