I have not been this stunned, surprised, shocked or taken aback since President-Elect Donald Trump announced Matt Gaetz as the next United States Attorney General.
Using his Truth Social account to capture attention, President Donald Trump announces, “Kashyap “Kash” Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

As interesting as the announcement is, so too is the wording President Trump selected; not “nominated“, not “appointed,” a simple “will serve as“… Thereby leaving the maximum amount of interpretability available for the consumer of the announcement.
This has to be the most Trumpian announcement in the history of some very Trumpian announcements.
FBI Director Christopher Wray has approximately two years left on his term, and he has not announced his resignation. It should also be noted President-Elect Donald Trump did not say anything about firing Chris Wray, which would be in bad form considering that President Trump couldn’t even entertain the approach until he is officially inaugurated in January.
That dynamic quickly triggered the FBI to respond with: “Every day, the men and women of the FBI continue to work to protect Americans from a growing array of threats. Director Wray’s focus remains on the men and women of the FBI, the people we do the work with, and the people we do the work for.”
One element is certain. By saying, “Kash will work under our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI,” you can be guaranteed Bondi is going to be asked about it during her confirmation hearings.
So, what does all this mean?
I have no idea, and, quite frankly, knowing Trump, I’m not going near this with a 10-foot pole.
Perhaps it is better to wait a little while and wait until someone asks President-elect Donald Trump how exactly Kash Patel is going to “serve as” the FBI Director, and what approach President Trump will take in order to make that announcement turn into a reality.
I’m sure Chris Wray, Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell and John Thune will also be watching earnestly to see what President Trump proposes.
The level of ‘splodey heads amid the current and former FBI officials, in combination with the entire corporate media apparatus that circles American politics, are predictably going to be off-the-charts. The apoplexy visible within the Gaetz nomination will pale in comparison.

NSA collects every email, every key stroke, every phone conversation, every text, the license plate readers feeds, the surveillance camera footage from all those millions of cameras, Alexa recordings, what your Smart TV hears you say, and so on and so forth.
All electronic signals go through transmission lines. Bush I had all the communications networks run everything through government routers along the way so as to capture everything. More may be wireless now.
Every large city has multistory windowless buildings that house the hardware.

Note the order of priorities of Wray’s “focus”: 1) the people who work within system 2) the people who work with the system (whatever that means), and 3) the “people we do the work for.”
The implied meaning of 3) is the American people. But that is not what is said. The identity of the people for whom the work is done- indeed the “work” itself- is ambiguous and open to interpretation.
The people “we do the work for” could be any group of people. The work being done could be any sort of work. We are left to assume the “work” is protecting the American public, but for some reason the FBI chose not to say that.
Why it made that choice I leave for you to decide.
