Does anyone have a good crockpot stuffing or a good crockpot green bean casserole?
We only have one oven nowso I can’t roast the green beans. I’m scared of crock pot stuffing getting mushy.

ELLIE, I do not have a crockpot so cannot help you there – BUT
My experience with stuffing has been with Pepperidge Stuffing Mix – I can make it on the stove – and my turkey cooking time is reduced !!!
My experience with Green Bean Casserole is baked – you can find the recipe anywhere – sometimes on bag of frozen green beans – so I always bake it !!!
Hope this helps – I am not the consummate cook – I learned most of what I know from friends – when my mom wanted to teach me – I wanted to play ball with my brothers – LOL

Thanks duchess! The tip for Pepperidge Farm is awesome because I found one recipe that said “one large box of stuffing” . . But I have no idea which kind tastes good or to know what size “large” is.
I’m going to try it. It adds extra ingredients like cream soup, broth, onion celery and carrots to “large box of stuffing” and transfers to crock pot an hour ahead. But am worried it will be mushy.
If it is no good, I can just cook up a box of Pepperidge Farm according to the instructions. Thanks!
The Pepperidge Farm stuffing comes in a bag – and – you can add anything you want to the mix – then cook it up real quick on the stove – easy peasy –
I like it because it is seasoned – and you can get regular (in blue pkg) or cubed (in red pkg) if you like
Whatever you like in your stuffing – onions, carrots, celery, etc – just add in after you cook – and heat

My wife uses onions and celery but skips the carrots. She goes with sweet Italian sausage chopped into pieces about one quarter of an inch thick instead.

Sooo… no one will see this post now, but for the record, I used the Pepperidge farm seasoned herb dressing. After reading comments I added onion, celery, (no carrots) and then dried cranberries and chopped walnuts. I threw in a handful of cranberries and then added more. Maybe 1 cup cb’s and 1/2 plus cup of walnuts.
I taste tested after I put in casserole dish and felt like it needed more, so I added 1/2 # Jimmy Dean Italian sausage (cooked) . Looked for the Sage, but as someone said somewhere on here, Sage was already sold out.
Cooked in a casserole dish according to instructions.
It was a hit! Doing the same for thanksgiving!

You may want to gently stir it a few times to make sure it doesn’t burn and is heated thoroughly. A double layer of paper towels or a clean dish cloth under the crockpot lid helps to avoid addng extra moisture. I always do that with mashed potatoes in the crockpot.

Green Bean Casserole
2 (14.5 ounce) cans cut green beans, drained.
1 (10 1/4 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
2 (4.5 ounce) jars sliced mushrooms, drained
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 (6 ounce) can French fried onion rings, divided (we tested with Durkee’s)
Combine first 7 ingredients in a large bowl, stir in half of French fried onion rings.
Spoon casserole mixture into a lightly greased 2 or 3 quart slow cooker.
Cover and cook on LOW 2 hours. Sprinkle remaining onion rings on top of casserole.
Cover and cook on LOW 3 more minutes.
Makes 8 to 10 servings.

I would be tempted to use frozen green beans and fresh mushrooms. You would have to estimate the amounts of these substitutes though.
Elle, do an online search for slow cooker greenbean casserole. The one on Allrecipes.com looks like the basic recipe. Takes about 5 hours and serves 8. To have the crisp onion tipping you can always pop it in the oven a few minutes just before serving. I noticed a lot of recipe sites with recipes.
I’m a terrible stuffing maker so have used Stove Top cornbread mix. One box serves 4 so you would use however many boxes necessary for your dinner. Instead of only butter I add finely chopped onion and celery into the melted butter a cook til the onion is soft before adding it and the water to the bread mix. You can do it stove top saving oven room.
When my kids were in Christian school we had an annual Thanksgiving dinner for staff, students and families. I would make the Stove Top stuffing in a 13 quart bowl. Everyone seemed to enjoy it as very little was leftover.
I’m doing Thanksgiving at my house this year but normally we go to my daughter’s. I still cook half the meal here at home and carry it all over there.
My husband roasts the turkey on Wednesday morning, carves it into a couple of those aluminum serving pans. That leaves the oven for my pies, usually 2 or 3, several loaves of pumpkin bread and if I’m still standing several dozen spritz cookies. Cranberry relish I make earlier in the week so the flavors meld well together. With all that done beforehand it leaves the oven free to bake the different sides, heat the ham and rolls.ie you I have one oven, one cook top and one microwave. My fridge will be stuffed but we’ll make do. I’m thinking maybe adding a banana pudding but might wait til Christmas.
Great ideas to get ahead of things. I like to get as much done as possible before everyone gets there so I can enjoy the company instead of forgetting things because of the distractions.
Exactly. My husband is very helpful in keeping up with the dish washing. Being in a small kitchen, little counter space keeping the dishes from stacking up is a life saver.
