Afternoon, dear Bet. Just returned from busy-morning Sunday chores. Sigh, I tend to put things off until guilt completely overtakes and so only then do I go to work. Gotta’ do some more house straightening next. Promised my housekeeper she shouldn’t have to work around my clutter . . . 🙂
Picked up two HEB pies yesterday: cherry and apple $5.75 ea!!! Just couldn’t pass those up.
Living alone could easily mean becoming a holiday orphan, which is something I don’t at all like. My learned lesson: if you have a collection a good enough friends (and fortunately, I do), it is perfectly OK to call and seek a Thanksgiving invite.
A couple of years ago, instead of feeling sorry for myself, I called two old friends (30 years) and basically invited myself to Thanksgiving dinner. After that they’ve always remembered to invite me to holiday dinners. So. Thursday I’m going to dinner with my dear friends —hence the two HEB pies. 🙂

Hi Nim. It must be a horse weekend. I watched a movie on FreeVee last night called December Horses. It’s about a girl who is going blind getting an abused, neglected and blind draft horse. It was a home movie but I enjoyed it. Turns out that the main characters are one family who run a donkey and draft horse rescue in real life.

–The main news is the ICCs (International Justice Court) has issued arrest warrants against Bibi and his ex-Defense Minister Gallant. They also issued an arrest warrant against Muhammad Def the dead Military leader of Hamas. (Hamas denies that he is dead but I am sure that he is). They blamed them for “War Crimes and intentional starvation”.
The head Prosecutor is a Muslim I believe from a Lebanese origin who is a British citizen.
He is has a pending sexual misconduct investigation on going which is a part of why this was rushed. He said that he will travel to Israel to see our side and he never did. Israel is not under the ICC nor the US nevertheless I can’t minimize this, it’s a serious blow to Israel and a back wind to Iran and the terrorists.
It means that Bibi will not be able to travel to some 124 nations minus those who individually say they will not follow the ruling.
Czech Republic, Argentina, Hungary said they will ignore it. Note that those are not in the grip of the Globalist Forces.
But most of Europe, Africa, South America will follow the ruling.
Netherlands and Britain and Canada hurried to say they will follow the ruling. The US mildly condemned it and said they will decide what to do. The upcoming National Security Advisor to Trump said that basically this is BS and the Trump Administration will strike back when they take office. Specially in view of the fact that we destroyed their defense system.” When asked about how the emergence of Trump affecting it? He said that “it’s a significant extra value.”
Note: I still think that Israel will try hard to persuade Trump to do a joint strike on the nuclear facilities. This is only because Israel doesn’t have the necessary airplanes and bombs that can penetrate 260-328 feet underground (the Nantaz site). Theoretically we can drop some 80 regular bunker buster bombs but carrying this amount all the way from Israel is a crazy hard operation. Trump is not going to agree and will try to cut a deal with Iran. Iran will try to do what it does, delay and linger.
Eventually he may just help Israel logistically to do it. I doubt that he will do it himself unless Iran angers him and hurts Americans.
Israel had decades to plan it so I am sure it is a matter of time.

-Yesterday a Senior Hezbollah person was assassinated, today the IDF took down another building in Beirut without a warning like all the other buildings. Report from Arab media that there was a meeting of Hezbollah military leaders and the Acting Chief of Staff of Hezbollah was killed. I will pay attention for confirmation.
Note: I told you before, the level of Intelligence that the IDF has on Hezbollah is unbelievable. You would think that now that all their leadership was taken out the sources will shut off but it continues.

Overall there were massive attacks in Beirut and a major city in South Lebanon. Hezbollah targets and civilians were evacuated.
I will post an image later here, it gives a concept. . The IDF is making slow and steady progress in South Lebanon but it is a visible progress with some good sense. I get the idea that we will get to the Litani River by Inauguration time. Our High Command is trying to raise the attacks to pressure them to cut a deal. Fortunately or not fortunately the terrorists’ sense of pride and their hate is preventing them from making any concessions and so the IDF is progressive and making them smaller and smaller. Increasing false reports from Hezbollah about their attacks and death toll of the IDF. They are desperate to raise their broken morale and maintain their pride.
-Another attack on a crossing from Syria to Lebanon. The IDF is giving a top priority to stopping the Iranian weapon and munition shipments to Hezbollah. -We are intercepting about 4-8 drones per day.

-Pay attention to this one. I watched an interview with the Director of Rafael (the Israeli company that manufactures the Iron Dome).
He said some things that surprised me. The % success rate of interception by Iron Dome is around 98%. He said that we dealt with some 30,000 rockets and without Iran Dome there would have been a disaster. There is nothing like this in the world. He said that with regard to the Iron Beam ( the laser system) they are the first in the world to make a technological breakthrough that enables it to be operational next year. (I don’t know when exactly). He said something that was not known. They managed to make it work also in bad weather. Only when the weather is very bad the success rate diminish. There will be an integrated Iron Dome / Iron Beam system that will automatically decide with of the two will be activated. An Iron Beam interception is about $5.00 while an Iron Dome Interceptor is around $60,000.
He said that the success rate of intercepting drones is over 80% which compare to Iron Dome it’s bad but not bad compare to international standards. Better rate than Ukraine. He said they are working on a solution but it will be ready only around the end of next year.

I agree with you about the Harry Potter books. I know a family that loved the books as they came out, parents included. The parents were happy that the kids were reading.
But then the hero of the series is revealed to be in love with another man! That was a terrible trick, a betrayal of the parents. Today, one of their four is gay, although another who was briefly gay is coming out of it. The books have a net negative influence.
Having read several of Rowlings pedestrian novels in the series, and also having shared Tolkien with my daughter, Tolkien wins out in the end with The Lord of the Rings.

Hmmm, I wonder if referring to the day as “Xmas” is not part of the problem. The goal of the operation is to be able to return the tens of thousands Israeli refugees who left their homes in the North because of the one year long attacks by Hezbollah. Every couple of homes in those villages and mosques are Hezbollah positions with missiles and weapons all aimed for attacking North Israel. Also many tunnels.
The Israelis will not return home so long as another 10/7 style attacks is certain to be impossible.
A couple of decades ago Israel withdrew from Lebanon after there was a UN resolution 1701 which stated that Hezbollah will not be between the Litani River and the Israeli border. It also demanded more than this but this is what we are insisting about. This way Hezbollah will not be able to use direct shoulder anti tank missiles at our citizens. Also they will not be able to do their “Conquer the Galilee” plan that is a 10/7 on steroids.
While this map may look impressive it is only about 2-4 miles in Lebanon. The IDF is going house to house and clearing inconceivable amounts of weapons, munitions and tunnels. The first and second raws of villages by the border were literally fortifications and attack positions almost every house. The IDF is flattening those areas to secure the border and leaving a message “houses and villages that are used to attack Israel will not stand”.
Your comment may infer that Israel has some territorial aims about Lebanon. We don’t want anything to do with Lebanon lands. We care about a genocidal terror group destroying the homes of our North citizens. You can expect Israel to get all the way to the Litani River to enforce resolution 1701. The negotiations are about getting Hezbollah to agree to this and a mechanism that enables Israel to enter the area in case of violations. After all the UNIFIL who were suppose to enforce 1701 collaborated with Hezbollah so we can’t trust them or the compromised Lebanon Government to enforce it.
Note. Ukraine didn’t bomb Russia daily for a year to justify a war. North Israel was under literally daily bombardments since 10/8/23. Unprovoked attacks made North Israel UN-livable. The small difference.

Does Halevi truly believe that the IDF’s job is to return Israelis to their homes? Doing so is a civil task, not a military objective. I get your point. To defeat Hezbollah we will have to conquer all of Lebanon. We have had bad experience with this kind of attempt. The conquest is the easy part. Holding on the land is the problem.

David: I am being a real pain this morning (in California), but Israel needs to clear at least 100 miles of territory, just in the south of Lebanon, to eliminate most (but not all) Hezbollah attacks. Hezbollah rockets are short range, but Hezbollah missiles and drones have longer range.
Israel does not have enough infantry, artillery, armor and ammunition to clear out all of southern Lebanon.
Furthermore, until Iran’s atomic capabilities and its oil producing and shipping infrastructure are destroyed, Iran will continue to pose a threat to Israel, via proxies.

A CHRISTMAS STORY
“My dad never had much compassion for the lazy or those who squander their means and then never have enough for necessities. But, for those genuinely in need his heart was as big as the great outdoors. It was from him I learned the greatest joy in life comes from giving, not receiving.
It was Christmas Eve and I was 15 years old and feeling like the world had caved in on me, because there had not been enough money for the rifle I wanted so badly that year for Christmas.
For some reason we finished our chores early that night. After supper, I stretched out in front of the fireplace, feeling sorry for myself. Dad bundled up and went outside again. I couldn’t figure out what he was doing since the chores were already done.
I didn’t worry about it long because I was too busy wallowing in my own self pity. Dad soon came back in. It was a cold, clear night and there was ice stuck to his beard.
“Come on Matt,” he said. “Bundle up good cause its cold out.”
Now I was really upset. Not only was I not getting that rifle, but he was dragging me out into the cold again for no earthly reason. The chores were done and I couldn’t think of anything else that needed doing, especially on a night like this. But Dad was not a patient man, especially at dragging my feet when he asked me to do something.
After getting dressed, Mom gave me a mysterious smile as I opened the door to leave. Something was up, but I didn’t know what.
Ounce outside, I got even more upset. There, in front of the house stood the work team already hitched up to the big sled. Whatever we were going to do wasn’t going to be short or quick. We never hitched up the sled unless we were going to haul a big load. The cold was already biting and I wasn’t happy!
After pulling around to the back of the house Pa got off and went into the woodshed coming out with an armful of wood. The same wood I spent all summer cutting and splitting. Finally, in subdued anger I had to say something. “Pa,” I asked, “what are we doing?”
“You been by Window Jenson’s lately?” he asked. “Yeah,” I muttered.
Widow Jensen lived about two miles down the road. Her husband died about two years ago, leaving her with three children, the oldest about eight. Sure I had been by there, but so what, I thought.
“They are out of wood Matt,” was all he said, as he went back into the shed for another armful of wood. We ended up loading the sled so high I began to wonder of the horses could pull it.
Finally, Dad called a halt to the loading and went into the cellar. He came out with a big ham and a slab of bacon. He handed them to me to put in the sled and then told me to wait. When he returned he was carrying a sack of flour in one hand and a smaller sack of something in his other.
“What’s in the little sack,” I asked. “Shoes for the children, I got them some candy too,” he said. “It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a little candy.”
We rode the two miles in silence. I tried to think why my dad was doing all this. We didn’t have much by worldly standards either. Of course we used to have a big woodpile until all this. We did have plenty of meat and flour so I knew we could spare that, but we didn’t have much money so why was he buying them shoes and candy? Really, why was he doing any of this? Widow Jensen had other neighbors much closer than us so it shouldn’t have been our concern.
We came in from the blind side and unloaded all the wood as quietly as we could l, then took the meat and flour to the front door.
We knocked. The door opened a crack and a timid voice asked “who is it.”
“Lucas Mills, Ma’am, and my son Matt. Could we come in for a bit?” Widow Jensen opened the door and let us in. She had a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. The children were wrapped in another and were sitting in front of the fireplace by a small fire that hardly gave off any heat.
“We brought you a few things,” Pa said, setting down the sack of flour while I put the meat on the table. Pa then handed her the sack that had shoes in it. There was a pair for her and each of the children.
I watched her carefully. She bit her lower lip to keep it from trembling. Tears soon filler her eyes and started running down her cheeks. She looked at Pa and wanted to say something but it wouldn’t come out.
“We brought you a load of wood too,” Pa said. He turned to me and said “Matt, go bring in enough to last and lets heat this place up!”
“Wow,” I thought. I wasn’t the same person when I went out to bring in that wood. I had a big lump in my throat and as much as I hate to admit it, there were tears in my eyes too.
In my mind I kept seeing those three kids huddled around the fireplace and their mother standing there with tears running down her face, with so much gratitude she couldn’t even speak.
My heart swelled within me and a joy I’d never known before filled my soul. Sure, I had given at Christmas before, but never when it made so much of a difference.
I soon had the fire blazing and everyone’s spirits soared. The kids started giggling when my dad handed them each some candy. Widow Jensen looked on with a smile that probably hadn’t crossed her face in a long time.
“God Bless you,” she said turning to Pa and me. “We knew the Lord would send one of his angels to help us.”
Well, my dad was a hard man and I never really thought of him as an angel before. But after Widow Jensen mentioned it, I could see it was probably true. I remembered all the times he went out of his way for mom, me and many others.
Before leaving, Pa took each of the kids in his arms and gave them a hug. They clung to him and didn’t want us to go. I could see they missed their father and I was glad I still had mine.
At the door, Pa turned to Widow Jensen and said, “We want to invite you and the children over for Christmas dinner tomorrow. We will be by to get you at 11. It will be nice having little ones around again, Matt hasn’t been little for quite a while.”
Back out on the sled I felt a warmth that came from deep inside and I never even noticed the biting cold.
Once on our way my dad turned to me and said, “Matt, I want you to know something. Your mother and I have been tucking away a little money all year so we could buy you that rifle you want so badly, but we still didn’t have enough,” he began to explain.
“Then just yesterday, a man who owed me a little money from years past came by to square things up. Your mom and I were real excited thinking we could now get you that rifle. I went into town this morning to do just that. But on the way is when I noticed Widow Jensen was out of wood and saw her oldest scratching around the woodpile, his socks sticking out of worn out shoes. I knew what we needed to do. Son, I spent the money on shoes and a little candy for those children. I hope you understand.”
My eyes again became wet with tears. I understood very well and was glad he had done it. That rifle suddenly seemed pretty low on my list of priorities. My Dad had given me much more. He gave me the look on Widow Jensen’s face and the radiant smiles of her three children.
For the rest of my life, whenever I saw the Jensen’s or split a block of wood, I remembered, and remembering brought back the same joy I felt riding home that memorable night. Yes indeed, my dad had given me much more than a rifle. He gave me the best Christmas of my life!”

But then I discovered Porsche’s – when my also neighbor Paul’s first Doors record blew up and he became RICH. You had to have a 911 Porsche if you were among the cognoscenti of Laurel Canyon circa mid sixties 🙂

When I was in the Army and stationed at Ft. Sam Houston I bought a Triumph Spitfire. It was a 1980 1300 model, the last year the Spitfire was manufactured. It was a convertible, white exterior and a black and white checkered interior. It was cherry. The guy I bought it from was a Texas Bell executive and had bought it for his daughter for getting good grades in University. She didn’t like it much so it sat garaged for a time.
I bought it for $3,000. I had fun with that little sports car. Three weaknesses.
Now there were fixes for all of those things. The made a kit for adapting for a Holly carb. The rear assembly could be modified for sealed bearings. And there was a carbon fiber leaf spring available for the rear independent suspension.
But I didn’t have the money to do all that and besides, I figured the cars value would increase more over time if it was all original. I sold it three years after I bought it for the same price I paid for it. I bet that car would be worth 10x what I bought and sold it for now.
I very briefly had one a late 70’s Spitfire too! It had a ragtop, tiny interior red w/ white ragtop that leaked – and it barely ran.
It”s funny. Those cars like old MG’s ( remember the MGB GT? or that mini MG size of a bugeye Sprite ( arghh ) what was it again a MG Midget(??) all shared those peculiarities.

I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

Going over Malachi this morning it is applied to our time, the Levi is the believers of today. Each position of authority that has been diverted from good to evil is mentioned. Those cheating people out of wages, the corporations.
Our allegiance is only to God and we are to apply his commands to our lives. “The lord will come near” judgement.
In that context, we are his emissaries, we are his judges, pronouncing judgement by HIS standards not by some man’s assumption. Calling evil good and good evil, from places of authority, especially the congregation of the church.
