Probably Gaetz withdrew because there were too many hard NOs in Senate GOP.

Matt Gaetz made some poor choices back in 2017 to 2019 that are haunting him today. Had Matt Gaetz not done what he did (it may not be illegal but created enough there there to make a difference, so much so he withdrew his name), he would’ve been the next Attorney General.
There is a ton of positions to fill. PDJT and team had probably spent months, even years, developing a plan. Matt Gaetz as AG was a part of that plan. I don’t think the HHS position was a top priority, RFK, Jr. filled in the spot and was helpful.
At the last hour, someone you nominate has some bad skeletons pop up. They withdraw. What do you do?? There’s probably very specific reasons for some people in certain spots. It’s obvious Pam wasn’t planned for another position. I don’t think Trump wants to lose Paxton as Texas AG to a Bush. There’s a lot of work to keep Texas from falling and needs a strong AG — I don’t know who would succeed but I don’t think anyone could be as good as Paxton.
At the end of the day. Kamala won’t be president. I’ll take Trump and poor decisions for the next 4 years over Kamala any day.

Gaetz was never going to clear the hurdle. Not sure of the politics of why PDJT nom’d him anyway. Perhaps there was a failed power play in that mtg with Thune.
In the event, one presses. I am confident Biondi will play a seminal and Trump supportive role in the illegal immigrant sweep that will unfold. The Dems/DS have already signalled they will fight this tooth and nail. She’s the right person for that assignment – an assignment that, as each day passes, looks to be number one or two on PDJT’s priority list.
Cabinet appointees tend to stay in place for a couple of years. Biondi will be front and center as noted. Budget cuts, lower tier appointees, mission statement changes for specific offices within DoJ, IG oversight, RIFs, tighter monitoring and prosecution of leakers will start the housecleaning. Gaetz probably would have allocated more energy to actual prosecutions – water under the excess curricular activity bridge.
I don’t doubt for a second whether Gaetz or Biondi occupies the driver’s seat that the recidivists will fight back in every way imaginable. There is comfort in the delegation of daily authorities that is likely to happen to the under secretaries, etc., while Biondi focuses on the migrant deportation typhoon that looms.
I don’t buy that for a minute. Gaetz cost Republicans a House seat and stuck it to Trump. This was needless. He knew there would be heat, if he couldn’t handle scrutiny then he never should have resigned and never should have agreed to the nomination – but he did neither, instead he played at being tough but folded immediately.

There are so many good choices out there – even better than Gaetz (e.g., Ken Paxton) that should have been tried. PDJT could have expended some political capital and put a massive public pressure campaign on the RINO Senate to get someone like Paxton, who would be clearly “qualified”, into the AG role.
But, he didn’t even try. One lukewarm effort to get a disruptor into the DOJ, then he just rolled over.

But 99% of all the people involved in government/politics are as you say “shady.” So what you say more or less leads to “doing nothing.”
One of my peeves about “we the people” is we sit around and complain but do very little else. I can’t advocate for that, so I can’t fault Gaetz for trying to help right a wrong, assuming that in what he was doing (along with believing the bogus driver’s license).
I feel like everyone else here, but my feelings don’t matter. I was elated with Gaetz nomination but I also had to admit to myself that it was probably too good to be true. If it was just PDJT making it happen, it would have, but there are those hurdles (you know the ones). Our elation got a kick in the behind, back down to reality. I do believe the vast majority of PDJT’S agenda will stand and be successful despite the hurdles.
Energy, Tariffs, and Border they will let stand. Cleaning up our disgustingly corrupt, fake government run by a mafia of the worst of humanity, will not. Sadly the latter is much more important for real and lasting change. In 4 years we will be right back to no-energy, massive inflation round 17, and all the other things. This is the problem with the “Great Man” approach. There is only 1, and in our system they can’t hand around more than 8 years. Name me one person in our purview at this moment would would honestly continue anything even remotely resembling a Trump agenda if they were to be elected in ’28. Bet you can’t (certainly not Mr. Vance, whom I am quite apathetic about). Hopefully wild times the next 4 years brings someone with nothing to lose to the forefront.

He is still dealing with the Swamp which is fully entrenched in Washington. President Trump is one man who has a vision of Making America Great Again. Does President Trump have many real allies, probably not. People keep talking about recess appointments. If President Trump thought he could actually get recess appointments I don’t think he would be making some of the picks he has made.
So, he is doing the best he can with who he thinks he can get through the Senate. Is it what we wanted; no, but realistically it was always going to be this way. No one person, on this earth, can change over 100 years of swamp accumulation in four years.
Being on the bench taught me one thing; I never had a case that was cut and dried. Most cases were very complicated and I made the best decision I could with the facts and law presented to me.

The officer was correct to salute someone who is now “a retired military officer.” (Soon to return to active duty.) Trump did hold the military rank of “Commander in Chief.” Any Former President can be, and I think should be, saluted – especially by an active servicemember.

Pam Bondi – I think the Trayvon Martin case is a stain. However, please recall at the time that there was a huge blitz by the media because the case had not been brought. Rick Scott was under immense pressure to do something. Pam Bondi had to do something. Put yourself in their shoes under that blitz. I know that case was a travesty, it was despicable. We all know what happened. I wish she was not the nominee for AG. BUT, she has maybe learned from that case. She has been loyal to President Trump for many years now. Perhaps she has been influenced by that friendship. She is well aware of the issues, the trials and tribulations that the DOJ/D’s have put her friend through.

I have often wondered what he meant by that. Regardless, what is realistically going to happen prior to Trump taking the oath of office?

The new congress hasn’t been seated: Dems still control the Senate. There has been no hearings. How is he being stymied?
Gaetz’s own decision making years ago came back to haunt him. He withdrew his name: not Trump, not Thune, not McConnell.
A nominee will go around to meet with the senators before any hearings.
He isn’t being stymied. He has been on strategic defensive retreat, to lure the enemy out onto the plain, where the enemy can be seen and eliminated.
He has also been laying the groundwork for victory all along. It took him losing the election (letting them cheat) and being prosecuted, in order to get that US v. Trump decision. He was actually in control of the guts of that show the whole time (Jack Smith’s “broken leg accident”, the photo of “the ear” etc), but he still had to go through hell to forge the sword he needed to slay the Beast. He got that sword, perfectly forged.
Information is a valuable thing. You don’t just shoot off all your ammo while the enemy is deep in the woods and you identify one little flash of visibility.
