It is a fair question, especially in light of the Vivek and Musk involvement. Don’t think RFKjr will, but he carries his own baggage (mainly being a climate change zealot and statist). Don’t get your ire up, give the question honest consideration.

Given all the hype about the RFK Jr. team up with Trump, and what it means for healthcare, I have some questions.
Many funders of Trump, such as Joe Lonsdale and Elon Musk as well as JD Vance himself, have major investments in biotechnology, gene therapies and companies deeply invested in mRNA and DNA vaccine technology. Trump stands by Operation Warp Speed, which produced mRNA vaccines of dubious efficacy and safety, some of which were made with the help of companies tied to Lonsdale’s VC, among others.
Will RFK JR. be opposing the use of these technologies as he seeks to tackle the chronic disease epidemic in the US in a future Trump administration? Will he allow the “health” DARPA, ARPA-H, to continue to operate? Will he allow the Peter Thiel and Joe Lonsdale co-founded Palantir to continue to collect and analyze Americans’ health data (and genetic data) with no meaningful oversight into how they use that data and if they share it w other government agencies they contract for like the CIA?
I agree that there is a major healthcare crisis in the US, but identifying the problem is one thing – will these experimental technologies be used or promoted as part of the solution? I think it’s important to know and it seems like not many are asking these types of questions.

The questions aren’t about the basis for MAHA, nor does it in any way discredit its core concepts.
The questions do revolve around whether or not RFKjr and others put to work in the food, drug, and health areas will allow the technologists, who are deeply invested, convince them regarding other matters “in the interest of what’s best for the people’s health” – just as Musk says he himself was previously convinced by The Science.
This includes allowing the approval of things like CRISPR technology to stand and move forward, as well as mRNA technology and others. It also includes the question directly raised about the data draculas, like Palantir, and whether or not they are allowed continued – or even expanded – access and free reign to data collected by the government from and about the people (even whether or not the government and big business are allowed to continue it. Of note -there should be a requirement for opt-in and NO ability to write in exceptions like are done with opt-out policies)
Unfortunately sometimes people allow their feelings and natural defense of things they see as good to cloud their own vision, such that they don’t see or are unwilling to consider related and/or peripheral matters…

Apparently McDonald’s no longer uses dimethylpolysiloxane. I read two articles that said they stopped using it in 2016. The current nutrition info for U.S. fries does not contain it:
Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [wheat And Milk Derivatives]*), Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (maintain Color), Salt. *natural Beef Flavor Contains Hydrolyzed Wheat And Hydrolyzed Milk As Starting Ingredients.
And the current nutrition info for U.K. fries lists far more than 3 ingredients:

Prepared in the restaurants using a non-hydrogenated vegetable oil.
Salt is added after cooking.

It’s possible I suppose that labelling laws allow McDonald’s to use this chemical in tiny amounts, and apparently our FDA requires that it be limited to 1 part per million.
It’s something that would be good for the FDA to investigate, for sure.
Agree that they both have shifted over time – especially the UK. Of note too is the “are starting ingredients” aspects of the US labeling. Parts per million- that can be misleading. What fractional amount causes issues? What is the total amount per serving?
That said, for fries it really should be 3 ingredients – potatoes (non-GMO variety), beef tallow, and sea salt. For myself, labeling should be all inclusive, regardless of amounts, if it is an additive. There should also be required periodic testing for toxins (food product sources).
Speaking of labeling laws – all non-US products are not required to be so labeled. The meat industry is one such area. Further, “organic” is not necessarily truly organic. For example various herbicides and pesticides can be used up until just weeks prior to planting and the government will still label the product as organic (there is an independent group that does certification of ‘full’ organic products). These things should also be fixed.

The USDA is also involved in the labelling issues etc with their regulations related to the meat industries….up to their eyeballs.

I think the food industry, especially vegetable and fruit growers, fought hard to show the origins because people might not want to eat foods coming from certain countries. For those who completely self invest (IRAs, Roth IRAs and private market accounts), they have a choice to avoid those firms. At that point, it is the responsibility of the person themselves and have no excuse to complain.
However, the majority that work and have 401Ks or 403Ks (government employees), Roth or not, are captured, unless they don’t have withholdings.
The problem for most is that the majority of companies offering 401K managed funds are mostly restricted from investing excepts to the funds their company allows them to invest, which mostly are funds these firms manage.
The overwhelming majority of the employees don’t even know who’s managing the funds or who owns them. Even if they did, they have no choice except not to participate at all.
IDK what the answer is other than a concerted effort by the population to make noise and apply pressure to their HR departments to cut ties and divest from using these financial investment management firms and funds.
I’m so grateful to have been able to have removed myself from that dilemma and world.

If you’re 59.5 years old or older, you can rollover your 401k traditional or roth to a fund family/broker of your choice, and remain working for your employer until you retire. Fidelity is an excellent choice, with several funds returning 28% to 30% year to date.
But if you are still working and contributing, don’t you still have to put the contributed funds and employer match in the company authorized funds? Or is your scenario only for those who have retired?
They still tax the hell out of you no matter what you do. These were the only way 40 years ago when I started one.

The original hip hop was a DIY movement starting in the South Bronx in 1973. It was underground in NYC, spreading only through mix tapes and house parties until 1979, when Sugarhill Records – an imprint of a failing R&B independent label – released Rapper’s Delight, which was both musically and verbally plagiarized – with Chic’s “Good Times” having been performed without credit and NYC rapper Casanova Fly’s rap being used without permission by his then manager, Big Bank Hank, who rapped on the Sugarhill recording.
Chic’s Nile Rodgers sued the record company and settled for cash and co-authorship credit on the record. Chic’s “Good Times” had been used, not as a recorded sample, but with a live bassist (playing the bass line of Good Times) and a keyboardist playing synthesized chords that had characterized the piece. Casanova Fly did not sue or get anything in return.
It was the gangsta rap of Los Angeles, originating in the 1980s with house party DJs, that created the rap image we are most familiar with from the 1990s. DIY businesses like Uncle Jamm’s Army were known for both house parties, and, eventually, large performing venues like the LA Coliseum. In LA, the hip hop scene was intimately connected with the drug trade (a CIA/Poppy Bush/Mena Airport operation). At any rate, the images that we came to associate with gangsta rap were not connected to its invention as DIY party music in the 1970s or even as party music or social justice related music (Public Enemy, eg.) in the 1980s. Gangsta rap emerged from the Los Angeles scene and was aided and abetted by LA producers to create an image of black criminality masquerading as machismo.

As a veteran from a family with a broad and deep history of military service, I think compulsory service in general is wrong – even though I recognize that in most cases it would be a very beneficial experience, while also recognizing for some it’s most definitely not. In fact, at this point in time I strongly counsel youth against military service and will continue to do so until I see enough has been done to prevent what has occurred from happening again. For us here in the US, there are other ways to be prepared and to defend the nation and her people – even from external forces.
People can disagree about whether or not compulsory service is wrong, but surely, we can agree that it is wrong to provide an exception for a single group of people while everyone else must serve.

I was checking out the movie schedule for Turner Classic Movies (tcm.com) and I see that this movie “The Whip Hand” is on the schedule for tomorrow, Monday – it caught my attention as I saw Raymond Burr and my Mom and I are Raymond Burr fans (now going through all the episodes again of “Perry Mason” through Prime TV/Free with ads).
Reading the synopsis of this movie, I think we will plan to watch it tomorrow – although my Mom doesn’t especially like scary things.

Abandonment Hertz: Customers Met By Empty Rental Desk Simply Abscond With Cars
…these days some of the leading car rental companies have made changes to streamline the service, except things recently got a little too streamlined at the Syracuse Airport Hertz rental counter… when employees clocked out approximately six hours early, leaving the rental counter completely unattended—even as flights were still arriving with reservation holders onboard.
When travelers arrived after those employees left in order to pick up their reserved rentals, and no one was around to help them, some decided to help themselves. Approximately 20 customers simply grabbed keys for whatever car was available (or seeing which cars had the keys left in them) and went on their way.
If that wasn’t strange enough, one of the customers that absconded with a vehicle was none other than Denver Mayor Mike Johnson. “We showed up and the rental car company was closed,” said Johnson. So, Johnson along with several others just walked up to cars with keys in them and drove off. “We took one we thought was for us.”
