Senator John Thune has been groomed by Mitch McConnell to be his replacement for decades. Thune’s ascension to the role of Senate Majority Leader was, maybe is, essentially a foregone conclusion.
Senator Thune will carry the full support of roughly 15-to-20 senate DeceptiCons (deceptive conservatives), and perhaps a dozen more squishy ones in the middle who want great committee positions. The important dynamic that comes into play is Senate Committee Chairman “leverage” for Donald Trump’s nominees.
Nov 7th on CNBC Senator John Thune discussed the upcoming secret ballot election for Senate Majority Leader. WATCH (prompted):

Essentially, this is Thune’s gentle first shot requesting President Trump “stay out of” the senate caucus decision. Likely, what matters most to President Trump is getting his nominees past the Republican majority confirmation process. Thune was in previous talks with President Trump several months ago, and again several weeks ago in Mar-a-Lago.
Senator Thune doesn’t want President Trump to put his finger on the scale. If matters of the Senate are left alone, Thune ascends – period. However, Thune isn’t stupid and would like Trump to support him. Essentially, Thune would welcome intervention so long as the intervention came with an endorsement.
Thune wants to be Senate Majority Leader. Pragmatic President Trump wants all of his ‘advise and consent’ nominees to glide through confirmation.
We should potentially anticipate President Trump to endorse Thune; generally, that would indicate terms have been agreed and we can be optimistic. Despite his need, perhaps the best situation for Rick Scott is a non-endorsement of anyone.
However, if we see a non-endorsement from President Trump, or if Trump should surprisingly endorse someone else, then we should watch out for full DeceptiCon opposition in the Senate from here on out.
A lot of the dynamic exists without any outside influence. The two positioned candidates are John Thune (SD) and John Cornyn (TX). Florida Senator Rick Scott is a MAGA favorite, but Thune is heavily favored and has an inside track. The number of MAGA senators is around ten, not really enough to block any organized leadership challenge.
Our MAGA movement benefits from appointments gaining confirmation. President Trump well understands the negotiations and maneuvering that will be needed to get the right committee chairs and members in place.
Maybe Scott has a chance… But… Optimal solutions, folks. Optimal solutions.

The numbers as of an hour ago – the most corrupt election commission in the state (Maricopa county) accounted for a large enough vote delta versus the Presidential vote to account for the slime winning.
She has not lost yet as AZ, as of today, still has a significant number of ballots to count with the majority of ballots being casting a vote for her. Note, she is <1% behind and catching up. However, the Democrats are attempting to do their steal game which means this contest will be challenged with a verification of the legitimacy of the ballots first then recounted. Remember the AZ Supreme Court ordered Hobbs SoS to turn over this last Monday the identities of the voter with respect to a hundred thousand or more on the voter rolls to determine if they were legal legitimate individuals allowed to vote in the AZ elections.
On election day the NYT was reporting that it could take up to 13 days to finish tabulating the votes from Maricopa County. Almost two weeks??? Why is it that as technology advances it needs to take longer and longer just to add up some votes? It’s supposed to be election day, not election season.

Terms between President Trump and Thune potentially agreed?
Our President is a man of his word. His handshake is the “signature” on the many deals he has negotiated.
And Thune?
My instinct says as a man joined at the hip for years to the odious McConnell, that he is not.
HELL NO on Thune—Thune does not need more ways to Screw South Dakota and America.
This is hardly a president elect issue. With everything he’s got in his plate I do not expect him to take on this battle.
This is OUR issue.
This is why granular federalism is important.
Most of us agreed that we needed to provide as many MAGA candidates as possible to as many positions as possible.
Now we contact our senators and tell them how we feel.
We gave Donald Trump a mandate.
We will take note and boot those on our side who oppose him.
The vote will be by secret ballot. What exactly does that mean? We won’t know how our senators voted.
The people need to know. Senators want committee positions and will compromise their loyalty to what We the People want and need.
We need to be shining bright light on all this. No one hides in the dark any more. Make them all accountable.
What leverage did We the People have to make Mitch Accountable to us? What will help shape any Senate Majority Leader? — > Daylight helps for moral people with intact consciences. Pelosi, for example has none. In your face evil.
But republicans have to continue to to support the facade that they are for the benefit of the people. Could we swing a referendum in his state? Is there any mileage gained with we shine his actions in the light?
There are letter writing campaign to our Senators here in my state, encouraging them to choose Scott. But it is a secret ballot.
I’m wondering why the Senate Majority Leader is a secret ballot, when the Speaker of the House was public and in front of God and America for like, what, 15 ballots? Seems they should all be public, since it greatly impacts We The People.
I do understand what SD is saying about President Trump not expending a lot of political capital on this. But the voters are not similarly constrained. We have proven via the popular vote that we ARE a majority, and maybe enough of us being vocal about wanting Scott would move things more into the sunlight.
The only ballot that should be secret is the one they all cast last Tuesday on Election Day. Otherwise, Chamber business should be open to the public which they serve.

I’m sorry, but Texans have elected Cornyn as Attorney General, State Supreme Court Judge and Senator over many years. somebody must like him or he would not rack up big vote totals.
Cornyn and Paxton don’t get along, not unusual when they will possibly be after the same job.
Thune has a long history of saying nasty things about President Trump – the worst that Cornyn has done is to say “he can’t win with just the base, he needs to broaden the base” – and the fact us, that’s just how President Trump won.
This is a toss up between the Johns unless Scott can gain support. Both Johns raise a lot if Money – Cornyn raises more. Both are well liked, both worked hard for the Tax Cuts. Cornyn is up for election in 2026, Thune in 2028. President has more leverage over Cornyn. The Senators want 2 main things from their Leader – new Senate rules (more likely with Cornyn ) and a strong working relationship with President Trump.
Four final things:
1) the Senate votes early so they are ready to work on Jan 2 not distracted by an internal battle
2) J.D. Vance is still a Senator and will get to Vote
3). J.D. Vance knows both Johns, but he clerked with Cornyn long before he got into Politics- so knows him better.
4) public leverage for Scott is a good move, but Senator Vance probably has a lot of behind the scenes leverage and knowledge.
I’m not so keen on Scott, but Thune and Cornyn no way. Especially Thune.

What about a recess appointment strategy, right out of the gate? If Trump stands up 1 senator (Scott? Hawley?Rand?) to force the recess vote… and put in the whole first team of wolverines in across the board for 18 months. No slow starts or compromised nominees. Speed kills. Go on offense sideline-to-sideline all at once, get right to work and take as big a bite as they can for 18 months. Thune begging instead of acting like the boss. Confirmation hearings for compromise candidates can be pushed back to summer of 2026.

I called JD Vance’s D.C. office two days ago about this, but nobody answered and left a message about an open vote as well as supporting Rick Scott, as he should know. I called about 3 or 4 of his offices around Ohio and no one answered there either. I figured his offices are probably swamped with death threats from the Left so no one is answering.
My other Senator is outgoing Brown and not sure if I should bother.
If Pres Trump has negotiated something with Thune, then I hope Thune lives up to his end of the bargain, not sure I would trust that.
