We had good friends over for dinner last Saturday. We met them a couple of months ago. Have eaten at their home twice and took them out to dinner once. They are Buddhists as is my wife. That was the early connection.

She kept marginal contact, once a year calling or texting on my birthday, always with the disclaimer that even though we weren’t really friends anymore that she had such good memories. I finally told her that that wasn’t friendship and it was best she not contact me anymore. I have thought of her though during this campaign because she graduated from Howard University and is also a member of the same sorority as Kamala. I seriously doubt she is very happy right now since Orange Man Bad destroyed her sorority sister in the election.

I do believe that the election swung on hatred and fear, fueled by a steady intake of willful ignorance and that many people – not just the red hats – seem to have actively voted against their own interests and the interests of those they hold dear. Those votes were not just a vote against the interests of the here and now, they were a vote against the collective, shared, global future. Votes against humanity. Votes against Earth. Votes in favor of fleeting, transactional dumbfuckery. Where does this leave us? In a bad and dark place. Each must find their own way to cope, exist, or resist.
