UPDATE: We will continue bumping this thread to keep the communication lines available.
...”I live in the Western part of the US; reading these comments is like listening in on a (telephone) party line. This is the first I’ve heard firsthand live reports from the people directly affected. For the first time there is no canned, approved spoon fed mis-information delivered by the faceless and unaffected paid to be there.”….
Which is exactly the reason we keep this thread going!
As the areas in Eastern Tennessee, Western North Carolina and the Western gulf coast of Florida continue recovery operations from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, our thoughts are with those who are still impacted and dealing with the long-term recovery process.
If you have stability and the ability to communicate, we are wondering how you guys are doing.

Working with several ground groups, we have sent toolboxes and resources into the area for the arduous tasks that remain. There are many who feel overwhelmed; just know our thoughts and deepest prayers remain with you. It will get a little better every day.
Resourceful teams (mostly electrical restoration experts) who learned quickly after they helped the Puerto Rico Mountain areas in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria are doing amazing work reaching some of the more isolated areas. These are good friends with a git-r-done approach.
Eastern Tennessee power has mostly returned; however, approximately 23,500 of the 1.5 million customers that lost power, just in the Western North Carolina area still lack electricity as of today, according to Poweroutage.us. Additionally, there are still about 365,000 Floridians without power.
The power restoration in the dense mountain forests of WNC is slow going, some roads and bridges are completely washed away. According to the Associated Press report, “The crews aren’t doing what they typically do, which is a repair effort. They’re rebuilding from the ground up,” said Kristie Aldridge, vice president of communications at North Carolina Electric Cooperatives {link}.
There are widespread rumors and disparate reports of the overall death toll, at last count was well over 200. Anecdotal reports from people in the WNC region put the death toll much higher but are difficult to confirm. We do not want to spread rumors, yet we simultaneously accept this close to the election there is an unfortunate incentive for both federal and state emergency management officials to keep the death toll numbers hidden.
The bottom line is a concern for everyone in the impact areas. Therefore, ground reports are the most valuable. How are y’all doing?
Dear God of grace and strength, in the midst of uncertainty, fear and change we turn to You for stability and strength. Please grant us the wisdom and fortitude to navigate the unknown, the courage to face challenges, and the faith to trust Your divine plan.
Heavenly Father, let Your unwavering presence be our anchor in the aftermath of these storms. Grant us the resilience to face the challenges of recovery with grace and hearts filled with purpose. May we continue to find, patience, stability and fellowship in Your eternal love.
Thank You for guiding us through these uncertain times. In Jesus blessed and loving name we pray. ~ Amen.

FeMa – the camps that early in the week there was a Vandersteele video shared about – where they are wasting 10s of millions of dollars on camps for “FeMa personnel”…almost a MONTH after the disaster. Besides being very late – they are NOT for the people that are now homeless. WTF didn’t this money get spent on day 1 flying SAR missions with the multitude of military and other government assets available within spitting distance and for building community lodge houses for the communities that were wiped out so they had a place to stay while they undertake the long rebuilding process?
Remember too – this is the most accessible area with the most resources coming in…
Possible knew distribution center opened to help. If you go to Corrine’s home page, her # to text is in her bio. At this point a question I would personally ask of anyone – “What are your plans if FeMa shows up and tries to steal the donations and shut you down?” If they can’t answer that to my satisfaction, they won’t get supported. You do you.

Some video clips in this compilation that I haven’t seen before. Exceptionally angry water.
Sad to see so many Americans using the TikTok app when you consider its ties to COMMUNIST China.
I’ve seen a few mentions these past few months that the ‘real” reason the government wanted to ban it was that it interferes with their attempt to control the narrative. So some people were arguing that TikTok is important to avoid current censorship and to get the word out.
I’m essentially tech illiterate & clueless, so I’m have no idea if their claims were correct.
Just sharing! Neither agreeing nor disagreeing on tech matters which are waaaay over my head
Regardless of our own viewpoints on TT (have personally counseled against its use repeatedly), the reality is that a large portion of young Americans use it and is their method of communication. In this case they can use whatever method they are familiar with, the focus being on getting people the aid and support they need. The rest is in the noise at this point in time.
Pray that you and yours continue to do well and are uplifted by prayer.

Damned if that video isn’t one of the BEST I have seen re: this disaster to date! MORE, please!
I was just informed that the pile of kindling on the side of Interstate 26 that was my dwelling is currently being ‘cleaned up’ by TDOT (Tennessee Department of Transportation). Since they are reopening I-26, I guess they don’t want passers-by getting upset by seeing the wreckage of people’s homes lining the interstate…back to ‘normal’.

As a Marine Corps veteran ( 1971-1975) myself… whose fought homelessness since 2012, I’ve felt abandonment and left behind like so many other veterans have been through. Yet, we have so much to offer threw our experiences. We know how to get things done… we know how to accomplish a task with minimal resources and rest assurred… we care about those suffering.
I volunteered for Katrina relief as a medical team leader in 2005 for 26 days in S. Mississippi. Drove 1000 miles in my own vehicle with minimal funds from Michigan. Teamed with veterans there to get the job done! I will get down to those areas affected to give ( manual labor, support, supplies). Thank you young man for all you are doing and to all volunteers. I can tell you first hand what I know. I spent 6 yrs in the marines our last mission was in Michigan trying to arrest protesters and looters like they knew what they were preparing for. Now I’m a full-time firefighter at one of the biggest depts this side of Nashville.
We didn’t send 1 truck to elizabethton and barely anyone to ewrin. 80 of us tried to go 6 went they wouldn’tlet us go. Me about 10 volunteered on our own. My cousin lost everything on 107 went back illegals were looting and stealing what was left.
I went down there with my ar saw fema working for 2 hours 7 guys on 6 tiny branches than sit for 4 hours in the shade. Me some good ole boys cleared 20 miles of mtn road In poga with 10 guys and four-wheeler. Your 100 percent right the good ole mtn folk got more done in a few days then the government could have in 3 months.
FeMa’s horrible track record is long and wide…

In 2011 my hometown was flattened by a F5 tornado. First responders were friends, family, neighbors, church people, and people in the area. They were getting things done, then FEMA came in stopped anyone from giving food, stopped churches from giving shelter, stopped volunteers from coming in and start charging people who lost everything for help. They also made rules such as no one could help clear your land but you needed it cleared and all debris brought to the road on X date. This meant old people had to move trees by themselves, impossible or move their demolished car by themselves, impossible, but if they paid money FEMA would help. Government aid was offered but it went like this my parents lost everything but they could have a storm cellar built for free by the government BUT they had to have a plan drawn up by a contractor and approved by the government. The plan cost my parents a thousand dollars but they were told once approved it would be refunded. But theirs and many others plans were all not approved. It was a government scam! In the end my parents didn’t get one penny of help from FEMA, only a bill! If it hadn’t been for family, friends, and home insurance my parents would have been homeless. FEMA was more harm than good. Before FEMA no one was looting because people could protect their property. When FEMA came in it let in strangers in my small town who looted and FEMA td the people they were not allowed to use their guns, FEMA alone was to protect them and of course they didn’t. They let strangers in but kept good people out. Volunteers were turned away.
Anyone remember hurricane Katrina and the fiasco FEMA did there?
Never trust the government to help in times of need. All the politicians want is your money but they don’t want to spend it on you!
I have recently read, but have no way to very that FEMA is deeply involved in human trafficking and that all the so-called conspiracy theories about FEMA camps were not entirely incorrect, except for the fact that the camps weren’t for the civilian population, but rather were for trafficking victims.
I don’t know if that’s true.
But I personally suspect that this outfit might be part of yet another governmental money laundering operation ….
But again, there is no way to verify my suspicions.
The amount of money out of their budget that’s been spent on illegal aliens has been documented by several people. I did a deep dive into it at one point, but then Helene hit and it got put on the far back burner…
Appalling.
FEMA literally resembles a criminal enterprise made up solely of sadists.
@keithplumley20542 days ago
One of the problems with FEMA is that they’ve signed contracts with certain suppliers for equipment and supplies. My sister who is an insurance adjuster told me that at a safety briefing the workers were told to collect supplies from volunteers and transport them to a central location for inventory and distribution purposes. The workers were scratching their heads wondering why the supplies weren’t just handed out. Apparently it’s all about red tape and egos. And contracts.
Initially I was furious with the federal government for doing nothing substantive for depressed and/or traumatized vets.
But when years turned into decades, it became obvious that there was something decidedly wrong with the US Military.
It’s only been since 2016 that I’ve been exposed to factual details about the Deep State military and to learn about massive corruption, the lack of ethics and honor, the money laundering vis a vis the Military Industrial Complex.
I’ve been appalled and aghast for at least forty years about the wretched way that vets are ignored, seemingly tossed aside.
My first real awakening of how bad things were was the invasion of Iraq and soldiers constantly hungry and losing tens of pounds.
I was furious and have been very disgusted with my country for a long time

I’ve personally worked to save some of my fellow vets and the degree of ineptitude and don’t give a shit attitude by the government and VA is so vast that it has to be intentional – and in some cases I would say down right sadistic. In one case it took getting a general and a senator involved and many persistent calls to get the proper doors opened. It pisses me off beyond words…
It’s like…. it’s literally intentional. As well as the bureaucracy seeming to believe that THEY, the residents of the Deep State are oh-so-superior to …… our American heroes.

A look at the devastation in Green River Cove, NC – the river bed moved and the people helping one another as best they can.
Thankfully this area has road access – quite a few still don’t.
This is a video on the help Precision Grading has provided in the area above (he was interviewed in the above video at one point).
Precision Grading requested the need for campers, RV’s. It reminded me that Treeper, mycroft, posted one available, on page 7 I think? At any rate, if you see any posts by mycroft, here is the contact number that was in this video. This particular RV request, as I understand it, is for a couple of vets who lost their main home in another town AND their camper here on this land. He said CALL:

Reasons like today are why I stick with events for so long. While the flooding is what captured the eyes all around the world, those who didn’t get flooded out were dodging trees falling all around them as Hurricane Helene produced winds over 100mph throughout the mountains surrounding Asheville. This amount of deforestation is truly unprecedented and this landscape is forever changed as the blue ridge parkway remains closed.
Its truly saddening to see what the trees are supposed to look like with prime fall color surrounded by such devastation.

Ok y’all, let’s help some Appalachian families survive winter. https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/svg/1f64f.svg
First I want to thank Shawn Hendrix for everything he’s done for NC victims of Helene. Just wow.
@TheShawnHendrix – I’d love to host a fundraiser X Space for your effort…I’m specifically interested on getting winterized tents to these folks.
DM me if we can help.
Kelly you in?
The Appalachians are f’ed and I’m ANGRY. This is just 1 of thousands headed into winter without a home.
If they were illegal immigrants, they would have hotel rooms and debit cards.
I will NEVER forget what is being done to Appalachian people by the current administration.
Here is the website mentioned for donations:
https://anchorridge.org/
Beat me to it:) Have to smile. This article is now outdated but it seems there are still four or five of us who continue to comment. I consider myself in very fine company:)
Ditto! Very fine company, all of us.
I send you Blessings for your persistence in continuing to post these. Because of you, Anchor Ridge just got a donation. If not for you, I’d never have known about them.
For what it’s worth, donations will be ongoing. Someone suggested weeks ago that those of us on fixed incomes could actually “budget” our relief donations, because the relief efforts will be ongoing for many months.
Anyway, thank you. Without your efforts, I really would be at a loss as to how I might make a difference.
Prayers are always a fantastic way to help. Think handwritten notes and homemade cards being sent to the sites for both the people effected and the volunteers would be good too myself, to help lift them up and know they are cared about in the one case and appreciated in the other. Much can be done with little – just as our Lord and Savior did when he fed the multitudes 🙂 God Bless you Fionnagh.
Thank you. He has. My cancer went from high grade invasive to low grade, non-aggressive. The doc asked me Monday what was I doing, because this was not in the research literature:) I told him when I pray, it is with gratitude. Just that. Thank You, God. Now how can You best use me?
He keeps sending “pennies from heaven.” Seriously. I find them in pairs. Not one or three, but two. “Two” means working together. “Please work Your Will through me.” My donations were getting out of control (on a fixed income here) so my guidance was to check the pennies as a reference point. If the year is 2017, then I donate $20.17. If the year is 1998, then I donate $19.98. (I do total the penny sums before sending a donation, simply because I don’t want to look super cheap. It’s not a vanity thing. Rather, the recipients might think, erroneously, that they don’t matter that much.)
As a long shot, here is a suggestion if you have the opportunity to convey to relief outlets:
I have sold on eBay to make ends meet, but now sell to get money for donations. eBay allows sellers to donate up to 100% of their sales to charities. The catch is — those charities have to be on eBay’s approved list. Am thinking the hurricane relief people should check that out. (I take some credit for convincing a child trafficking agency to sign up…) Any seller, not just me, can choose a charity from a drop-down list. My listings indicate that all profits will go to Hurricane Helene relief efforts, but it’s helpful if prospective buyers can click on a charity logo which takes them to a website.
Free advertising for the charity, and a buyer may not actually buy my stuff, but end up donating directly. Which makes your allusion to feeding the multitudes especially significant:)
God has allowed me to survive to help others. How very blessed is that?!
Fionnagh, this message inspires me. Thank you.

For Tennessee there are sites to ship supplies in and a list of needs. NC they’re currently going purely on funding.

Has ANYONE interfaced with the relief organization ‘Mountain Ways’? Sounds good, but ‘suspicious cat’ is..well, suspicious.
NDE, you have probably already seen all this on their website, but for those who don’t want to take the time to click, research and read, here ya go.
In a press article from Mountain Ways, dated October 4th, Dolly Parton and CEO of WalMart appear together in support of this charity. They say all money goes directly to impacted area. For those needing assistance, there is an application form on their site. Specifically says: “This assistance applies to an individual or family (homeowner or renter) with a 100% total loss of primary residence due to the 2024 flooding of Hurricane Helene in one of the designated counties.”
The application calls for photo ID and other documents for proof (many people don’t have ANY of this by the way) but in fairness, they list a telephone number to call: 865-412-7798. There is this disclaimer: “Assistance is based on eligibility and available funding.” There is also a list of specific counties, so it’s very targeted. All sounds good. But I have had no personal interaction with this group.
Apparently, Mountain Ways Foundation partners with Dolly Parton.
https://www.wbbjtv.com/2024/10/05/mountain-ways-foundation-to-partner-with-dolly-parton/
Thanks for this link. They give options on how to help and actually list their specific needs, dated, and where to send. For donations, it’s gofundme (vs. givesendgo) and they have raised $7,831 of their $20,000 goal. I’m going to look into this tomorrow to send material donations that are listed. They have a specific place to send fresh meat and produce. Home page states also: “We are able to accept Amazon and Walmart orders directly, as well as UPS/Fedex care packages. We can also run into town and pick up site to store orders for Walmart & Lowe’s as well.”
Who would have ever dreamed in even their worst nightmares that the reason to prep up 100% … and then some, to really overdo the shelf stable foods and batteries and energy sources …. was ultimately to protect yourself from your own government ……to protect yourself and your neighbors and community from the intentional planned in detail incompetence perpetrated by the federal government……..
.
.
SMH
President Trump will fix this!
In this case there is no amount of preparation that could have been done by the families that were in the flood and mudslide zones, as everything was wiped away. On the other hand, all such preparations would go a long way in being able to help those very same neighbors, who had lost everything. It would also help those who were cutoff by bridges and roads being wiped out.
One lesson to learn from this would be – if you live on flat land, but some of your property is the side of a hill (very common in the mountains), construct a root cellar up slope to hold supplies in the advent of a disaster that takes out your home.
Even if one lives in a city where disasters “never” happen – remember that with the a few key strokes or a single attack, water, electricity, and communication can be gone in an instant. With things going the way they are in this country and the world, I would say the possibility of such an event is higher than usual for the next several months. Then there are events like a financial collapse.
Always be prepared. Plan for the worst and hope for the best – and don’t ever depend on the government or outside help for survival. 🙂

To add insult to injury, local officials are telling people they can’t put tiny homes on their property and winter is fast setting in…
Why can’t these local agency geniuses issue temporary permits or do something creative that addresses the EMERGENCY?
They could – but don’t want to. For myself, would ignore them and do it anyway – then dare them to touch it. The mistake is asking permission…as the old saying goes, it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission – especially in cases like this. The government doesn’t have the manpower to go around monitoring and policing everything going on. One could also always through a tarp on it to camouflage it so they ignore it.
Duke Energy needs to be investigated and one of the things that the PDJT administration will need to do is set minimum standards of service for utility providers – which is critical infrastructure, effects national security, and that people’s lives depend upon – especially the elder and young children.

SOIL TEST RESULTS https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/svg/1f6a8.svgMountainTrue’s soil tests in Marshall Helene bring a mix of relief and caution. Out of 135 pollutants tested, only two were found isopropyltoluene and trimethylbenzene. French Broad Riverkeeper Hartwell Carson confirmed trimethylbenzene, associated with petroleum, was present in low levels, though cleanup crews are advised to avoid prolonged contact with mud, sludge, and dust due to potential health risks (News-Record & Sentinel).
Despite early rumors, there’s no evidence that sludge is burning through clothing, but Carson has reported significant pollution in the French Broad River: overturned gas tanks, sewage discharge, and hundreds of PVC pipes from a nearby factory (MountainTrue). E. coli levels currently remain manageable, but additional sediment tests and further rainfall could alter these results. Encouraging news, but ongoing environmental and health concerns require caution as cleanup continues (NC DEQ).
I am still very much fighting my lung infection so know I know its from the dust. It may not be as bad as the rumors but we know its bad enough NC DEQ says be cautious!
