UPDATE: We will continue bumping this thread to keep the communication lines available.
...”I live in the Western part of the US; reading these comments is like listening in on a (telephone) party line. This is the first I’ve heard firsthand live reports from the people directly affected. For the first time there is no canned, approved spoon fed mis-information delivered by the faceless and unaffected paid to be there.”….
Which is exactly the reason we keep this thread going!
As the areas in Eastern Tennessee, Western North Carolina and the Western gulf coast of Florida continue recovery operations from Hurricanes Helene and Milton, our thoughts are with those who are still impacted and dealing with the long-term recovery process.
If you have stability and the ability to communicate, we are wondering how you guys are doing.

Working with several ground groups, we have sent toolboxes and resources into the area for the arduous tasks that remain. There are many who feel overwhelmed; just know our thoughts and deepest prayers remain with you. It will get a little better every day.
Resourceful teams (mostly electrical restoration experts) who learned quickly after they helped the Puerto Rico Mountain areas in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria are doing amazing work reaching some of the more isolated areas. These are good friends with a git-r-done approach.
Eastern Tennessee power has mostly returned; however, approximately 23,500 of the 1.5 million customers that lost power, just in the Western North Carolina area still lack electricity as of today, according to Poweroutage.us. Additionally, there are still about 365,000 Floridians without power.
The power restoration in the dense mountain forests of WNC is slow going, some roads and bridges are completely washed away. According to the Associated Press report, “The crews aren’t doing what they typically do, which is a repair effort. They’re rebuilding from the ground up,” said Kristie Aldridge, vice president of communications at North Carolina Electric Cooperatives {link}.
There are widespread rumors and disparate reports of the overall death toll, at last count was well over 200. Anecdotal reports from people in the WNC region put the death toll much higher but are difficult to confirm. We do not want to spread rumors, yet we simultaneously accept this close to the election there is an unfortunate incentive for both federal and state emergency management officials to keep the death toll numbers hidden.
The bottom line is a concern for everyone in the impact areas. Therefore, ground reports are the most valuable. How are y’all doing?
Dear God of grace and strength, in the midst of uncertainty, fear and change we turn to You for stability and strength. Please grant us the wisdom and fortitude to navigate the unknown, the courage to face challenges, and the faith to trust Your divine plan.
Heavenly Father, let Your unwavering presence be our anchor in the aftermath of these storms. Grant us the resilience to face the challenges of recovery with grace and hearts filled with purpose. May we continue to find, patience, stability and fellowship in Your eternal love.
Thank You for guiding us through these uncertain times. In Jesus blessed and loving name we pray. ~ Amen.

Remember in Katrina FEMA had all those camper mini-homes there that were brought in, where are they for the people in NC?
Most had formaldehyde in them and they all ended up in a field unused.
And a buncha other toxic ChiCom parts and pieces as well IIRC..
Plus the mold and mildew issues.
FEMA is so corrupt and ie tent that it is beyond useless. It’s actually dangerous. It should be disbanded, and the sooner the better.
Remember that FEMA was created by no other than Jimmy Carter, the one who blessed us with gas lines and the Dept. of Education and we have to endure the “fireside chats” telling us to lower the heater.
Carter wanted and got a tour of Three Mile Island as it was reaching critical mass. The guy was always a dumb jackass. NTM, the hostage situation and giving Panama back… to the Chinese. Stellar moments in his career.
As a Georgian, I’m so grateful that Buhbuh Barry, Slow Joe and Howling Harris have exceeded Carter’s deplorable record and given him cover.
Don’t forget, he was a nuclear engineer in the navy. It’s amazing how one president in one term can make so many people miserable. I was trying to buy my first home when he was in office.
Did not know that! Shocking, really. How could he be so politically dumb? Out of desperation had to finance a vehicle when he was in office and paid 18% interest rate.
I bought my first house in early 1984 with a variable 8-7/8% interest rate which increased to 13-7/8 in 2 years. At that time I Got a 7-3/4 fixed rate.
This was 4 years after Carter and our economy had still not recovered.
I bought my first house in 1983 in OH, interest rate over 20%! I qualified for a state loan of “only” around 15% I think. Sheesh. Refinanced first chance I got a few years later.
Gas lines, gas lines & more gas lines.
What an incompetent POS!
🥜🥜🥜
You could only buy gas on certain days depending on your address – odd/even numbers. TP shortage, gas shortages, inflation…………very similar to this administration but without the illegals pouring in (that we know of).
Had to buy locking gas caps to keep people from stealing your gas. 3/74
I remember that insanity.
I was in Prototype nuke school w Jim’s son – Jack. His service jacket had a large colored stripe denotes family of sitting US Senator.
BTW, Jack was dumb as a box of rocks and never made it to the fleet.
Yep, I was shocked – sarcasm off
I was bused because of him.
These satanists want us dead.
Seriously!
Pray, contribute and stand together! 🙏🇺🇲💕
Jimmah, the KING of never let a crisis go to waste! The last 3 Democrat POTUS are as useless as the hind tit on a boar hog!
That would be Clinton, Carter, and the Kenyan!
Another classic demonstration of how CORRUPT and USELESS FEMA has become under democrat rule. EVERYTHING democrats TOUCH TURNS to SHIT!
That’s because most all Democrats are shit! Now you’re seeing WHY we can’t vote our way out of this! The only way to rid them is to FIRE them! Only one candidate is willing to say “you’re fired!” This is also WHY so many (in office) are against Trump! Every time a POTUS is Democrat, they appoint their crew in and not the best person available! It’s all synchronicity, people! The Democrats DO NOT have America’s interest in mind, only paybacks for favors to get them elected! Start looking at the long view instead of the short view!
Amen.
Fema mini home death traps?
They did the same thing in Florida after Irma. They brought the campers in, but no one was allowed to use them.
And the gov moved hundreds of trailers to the north for Hurricane Sandy victims and waived scores or regulations in doing
so.
Didn’t they also bring in a bunch of toxic drywall from Chyna?
They did at a later date. A friend in Lafayette, LA found out that his new house was built with the toxic sheetrock and they had to rip it all out. The sheetrock was corroding the wiring in the walls. Logistic and insurance nightmare.
Around the time of Katrina, a friend in Georgia was building a house. His contractor had ordered a train car load of 12 foot sheetrock. The government confiscated it. They didn’t ask, they took. He would have given it anyway, but it was the crummy way that they acted that was so offensive.
My wife and I reached a conclusion this morning that if a major event hits this country on a larger scale that you and your neighbors are on your own. Civil actions and repairs are not ongoing problems. People have got to learn that you have to be prepared for events like this storm because government is not much help and insurance is practically worthless with all the small print exceptions that have double meaning based on the event.
Good advice.
More good advice:
How old is that fall foliage pic? Seeing the blue sky was awesome.
Agenda 2030 being implemented.
They Want Us Dead.
Get that into your head.
It is true.
No more me.
No more you!
Gospel Truth.
I was wondering about that too
On top of that FEMA and the government keeps saying they can’t get access to certain areas due to washed out roads!
Do believe that is BS and anybody who has ever been in the military knows that they have the equipment and ability that makes it possible to get to and make air drops & people drops any place in today’s world!
H3LL I remember watching helicopters making one skit landings in the 70s for rescues! With all the improvements made in the last 50 years don’t tell me they don’t have the ability to access the most remote and damaged areas!
Do believe it’s not a matter of ability, but that the Globalist Administration doesn’t give a crap about America & Americans!
There are tons of ads, and they seem popular w/some people, the tiny home craze. A company that manufactures them needs to send some. The Seabees could make them in no time.
The military can do amazing things w/the right people in charge. They have everything needed, but leadership.
I still want all those downed trees and their lumber managed for reuse, where there is a will there is a way.
Yes, you are right “where there is a will there is a way” Do believe the good people of the areas affected have been showing that, along with the many good American volunteers on the ground. Not so much Governmental organizations. .
My brother had to live in one after his house was crushed by fallen trees in Mississippi during Katrina. He had to live in it awhile because the insurance companies were dragging it out because of all the destructive damage claims during the horrific storm.
My thoughts and prayers have been with the storm victims.
And another question, only ONCE since Helene have I heard the word Cherokee. Why is no one reporting on them? Certainly their enclave was struck hard. I hope they are holding on.
They were fine.
The highest areas and valleys came through with minimal damage. It was the communities at the base of the mountains that were hit the hardest.
Cherokee is way, way, way up.
They were on the northern slope of the mountain range and the damage was done on the southern slope as the storm from Gulf hit the elevation rise and dumped it’s rain trying to pass over area.
Good to know. Thx. I have been worrying for nothing. I can take that one off my list.
Me, too!
👍💕
They’re mostly in the Valley (their Valley, a sovereign nation) so the large majority of their territory didn’t get the torrential run0ffs, mud/rockslides or road cave-ins that so many others suffered from.
But I have wondered how US 421 out of Cherokee to Gatlinburg fared…? That is one of the scariest drives anywhere east of the Mississippi.
That road is ok and open actually. There was minimal damage in that area thank God.
Great to hear. It’s a gorgeous drive, although my vertigo problems won’t let me do it on my own any more.
“My vertigo problems won’t let me”… YES it is that spectacular.
Beautiful country!
The news only cares about Asheville because that’s where all the yankee liberals live. I just watched a bunch of youtube videos about the destruction and about 5% of the people you hear talking in them sound like NC natives. I know because I am a NC native and most mountain people have an even more pronounced southern accent than I do.
I learned to spot a NC native by ear years ago in the service. It’s the way they pronounce long “O” words, like “road,” flattening the long “O” rather than giving it the full long “O” pronunciation. Not always accurate since I have also heard this shibboleth from others up the east coast through Virginia, and as far north as Maryland.
When I was in Air Force basic training long ago, a sergeant on the firing range asked me if I was from Goldsboro NC. 20 miles from where I grew up.
We have family from the Goldsboro area. There was a great sausage factory we would go to when we visited. I have wondered if it is still open.
If you are referring to Nahunta, it is still open, and the sausage is some of the best.
My family is from there, NC accents are very unique and distinct. We would go visit family and come home talking like them! Good times, good people.
God love ’em!
This is from a person who is currently in North Carolina, assisting with the recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene. He reports that not only is the situation so much worse than imaginable, but the weather is now growing quickly colder. Displaced folks are already facing cold nights, and rescuers worry that morale will quickly tank. They are expecting snow in the next day or two. They have already had 12 deaths confirmed as of last night due to hypothermia, two of which were children.
There is more of a need for help then some realize.
They don’t need this in an election. Media is silent, the people are being silenced, the help and assistance they volunteer is being blocked.
This is the first major disaster where I haven’t heard the words “Army Corps of Engineers.”
Here….posible lying.

FACT SHEET: Hurricane Helene Recovery Continues as Biden-Harris Administration Prepares for Hurricane Milton
Home
Briefing Room
Statements and Releases
The Biden-Harris Administration continues to both make urgent and life-saving preparations for Hurricane Milton and carry out response and recovery efforts for communities impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Today, President Biden and Vice President Harris received a briefing from members of their Administration about updates on the latest forecast for Hurricane Milton, expected impacts for the State of Florida, and the robust pre-landfall preparations underway. They also received an update on the ongoing response to the impacts of Hurricane Helene across the Southeast and Appalachia. President Biden will address the Nation tonight regarding Hurricane Milton.
President Biden has spoken to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, Clearwater Mayor Bruce Rector, and Pinellas County Chairwoman Kathleen Peters to get firsthand reports on recovery efforts for Hurricane Helene and to discuss preparations for Hurricane Milton. The President told each of the officials to call him directly if they need additional assistance on response and recovery efforts.
More than 8,000 Federal personnel are on the ground across the Southeast, including in Florida, to continue Hurricane Helene recovery efforts and respond to the impacts of Hurricane Milton.
At the direction of President Biden, FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell will travel to Florida tonight to join the personnel on the ground and ensure every Floridian gets the help they need when this storm passes.
Additional updates on our efforts for Hurricanes Milton and Helene include:
Hurricane Milton Pre-Landfall Preparations
Pre-Landfall Outreach and Emergency Declarations
President Biden granted pre-landfall emergency declarations for the State of Florida and the Seminole Tribe of Florida for Hurricane Milton, enabling FEMA to provide direct assistance to the state, local and Tribal response, preposition supplies and response assets and mobilize hundreds of personnel in the state, many of whom were already in place supporting the Hurricane Helene response.
The White House has been in contact with more than 60 Florida officials from all 51 counties that fall under the pre-landfall Emergency Declaration approved by President Biden. We remain in close communication with officials in the 16 cities and counties that will likely be in the direct path of the storm.
Surging Resources and Personnel to Florida
FEMA has over 1,000 responders on the ground in Florida supporting Hurricane Milton preparations and recovery efforts from previous disasters. There are over 1,400 search and rescue personnel pre-staged to support Hurricane Milton response efforts.
The U.S. Coast Guard has 1,300 personnel stationed in Florida ready to immediately assist with life-saving and life sustaining search and rescue operations throughout the State. The Coast Guard also has personnel ready who will work directly with the U.S. Army Corps of engineers to assess and open the critical lifeline of the Port of Tampa as quickly as possible to ensure necessary supplies and fuel can start to flow into the impacted areas again.
As I said above, it is not because they can’t get to the areas with the most destruction, it is because they don’t want to.
The areas I saw helicopters land in for recuses in the 70s were far far more remote and probably more treacherous then the areas in the Appalachians. Try a doctor drop on the side of the Palisade Glacier & then a one skid landing long enough for the rescuers to tie a rescue basket stretcher to the helicopter & doctor to jump on. Palisade Glaciers was not the only places that we had rescues like this, Mount Whitney was another, along with many other areas in the Eastern Sierras.
This is why I do not and cannot believe the BS that the Globalist Administration is trying to hand the public.
On top of that, it seems that there are far more people still missing that are not being talked about in the main media. Are they or where they still alive trapped in some of these remote areas.
Opinion from one who has seen the difference in response and media coverage…All the pre-staging and help for Milton looks like a desperate attempt at CYA.
They had their fingers and head up their posterior for Helene, and they have ignored that area.
In WNC Helene hit a red area with a blue governor. Their “mistakes” will never be called out.
With Milton, they were dealing with a red governor who will not stand by wringing his hands. They are depending on the facade of competency with the 2nd storm to cover up the negligence in Helene.
These people in TN and WNC who survived this nightmare will climb barehanded over the debris fields to vote and they know it.
All the media can do is keep floating the militia is after FEMA. It burns my butt. They are evil and I hope one day they will get their rude awakening.
I live in Western North Carolina in a small town just north of Asheville. I heard a local news report on the radio about this. Apparently one man with a gun said something threatening about fema and was arrested. So I guess this has been interpreted as white nationalist militias attacking fema?
So now fema is not going into 3 counties. I know nothing else about it and most people are still in survival mode.
For me it is no internet yet so I am out of work. But many others are still without water or electricity.
Lots of nooks and crannies in the mountains and small local bridges that need repair but kudos to all the power companies for taking a few chances crossing some locally repaired bridges. I have a friend who finally has electricity which also means water from her well. Power company just did it! For her and others it was miraculous.
For Asheville still no water. For me no longer need to boil.
Toxic mud is also an issue as the rivers in the past were the sites of various factories.
Have to go. Thanks to Publix for their service.
“So I guess this has been interpreted as white nationalist militias attacking fema?” Yes. Who is to even say that the guy isn’t some plant that they scrounged up?
I cannot begin to fathom dealing w/the mud. The pictures are incredible.
Very happy you no longer have to boil water. Happy for those that got their electricity back. I hope you get internet soon. Please know, and tell everyone you encounter we are praying and thinking about everyone 24/7. Please say hello and give us updates as you can Littleflower. Hugs and prayers to all.
I ordered several items on the Cajun Navy’s Amazon wish list a couple of weeks ago. One was a solar portable shower. Well Amazon is only now shipping it. Doubt they will be using it now. Hopefully the CN can use it elsewhere. It was warm weather when I ordered it.
As with me, you tried doing what you could. There are things that sometimes are not within our control.
As I read I see that they need volunteers more then anything, for me that is something I am not capable of but so wish I could.
Every time I read about the mess in Appalachians I start tearing up and then crying then praying.
Just remember to do what you can and don’t feel bad when things don’t go as you would like.
God Bless You and Everyone Else For What They Have Done for Our Fellow Americans.
Believe me, if one is living in a makeshift home with no running water, a portable shower will be put to use even if the temps are very cool.
Yes cold. Here in central NC (4+ hours east) we’re looking for overnight temp to drop into the 30s in a couple of days.
Figure possible freezing temps in the mountains, not warming up all that much in daylight. Especially in the shadows, and of course there are LOTS of shadows there.
there doesn’t seem to be media attention
The media just don’t care.
The media would have a conniption fit if President Trump was directly in charge. Although were he in charge many people would be alive that have died.
No illegal occupiers involved. They have to be treated like Royalty unlike our own citizens.
God bless these ignorant, mis-educated, misinformed, misled, greedy, no common sense Americans!
Members of the media are paid $20 million per year to ignore you.
If the media actually reported the real truth it would really hurt the current Administration, especially in the upcoming election.
AMEN Brother Sundance. We ALL need to pray for those folks that have been devastated by those Storms. We should ALL be disgusted and furious with the pitiful response by our Government in this dire situation.
Donate (if you can) to private groups– and pray, pray, pray! 🙏❤️
Now you see the REAL value of a Democrat! Useless as the hind tit on a boar hog!
Live in Tierra Verde, a barrier island in South Pinellas County. Still reeling after flooding our downstairs from Helene, we evacuated for Milton to my mother in law’s house in The Villages where a big oak tree fell on her roof. We were able to get a tarp for the roof and the tree removed on Saturday. We are now back home where thankfully we got power back Sunday afternoon. We are exhausted and a bit shell shocked after 2 hurricanes in 2 weeks. We must get back to our restoration work and take one day at a time. There are so many others in Pinellas who lost their homes and just about everything else. We pray that all will be able to recover as soon as possible.
Was wondering how it was there, worked @ Ft. Desoto for many years, still remember when the Skyway fell.
I lived in Pinellas for 22 years now 21 years in Pasco….Safer for sure in East Pasco near Tampa
Back in the blue law day we travelled to Pasco County from Tampa for adult beverages lol. Late 70’s –seems like yesterday lol
Yep.
Zephyrhills was the closest place to the Thonotosassa/Seffner/Mango area back then.
Good times.
Trust God. Fear not.
I understand your being shell shocked. Lost my place in Ft. Myers with Ian. It’s such a mess you don’t know where to start. Like eating an elephant, take one bite at a time.
Where on the island is your house? We just sold our home on Tierra Verde 2 years ago, after living there for 23 years. (Tierra del Mar). I don’t think they got flooded there, but probably lost power for a long time. So beautiful there. Sometimes we miss it from up here in TN now, but not during hurricane season.
Clean up after a flood is not for the faint of heart… it’s tough. We were flooded some years ago, before our move to Tierra Verde in Tanglewood (NE St Pete, north of Shore Acres) Patience is your best friend right now, and I wish you a quick “recovery”.
Live in an area near Brevard, NC. We finally have power. It is difficult to be “inconvenienced” by the inability to do things like flush toilets, cook, do laundry, and such. But my house is still standing. I am fortunate.
Trees, healthy trees, were pulled out of the ground by the roots. As they fell these trees smashed shorter trees. The road out of my area looked like a jungle. Men and women, many elderly, cut and moved trees for three days to clear the roadway. (Tiny electric saws are useless. You need a big, tough saw with an oil and gasoline supply can!) Thank you, Lord, for people who know how to work!
Neighbors helped neighbors. The most difficult thing for me was that I was unable to communicate with my children to tell them that I was ok. A young woman in the neighborhood walked to my house, collected names and numbers, and walked to a Starlink location to send my children a message. Angels come in many forms.
Find individuals who need help. Give directly to those whose livelihood has been impacted by this storm.
An effective strategy for rescue efforts is to mark houses where rescuers have been, so that others can focus their efforts on those who have seen no assistance thus far. Good Samaritans in the area can also collect and fill wish lists from those residents.
Local community efforts often surpass gubmint bureaucracies, at least in the initial relief stage. But down the line, of course, residents will cobble together whatever resources they can get their hands on.
Godspeed to all the good samaritans from Helene and Milton!
How is highway 276 that goes by Looking Glass Falls?
That’s in the Pisgah national forest which is closed.
Yes. The section of 276 from Brevard to Pisgah National Forest to Waynesville was closed. Not sure if it is open now.
Hope you are safe. I always appreciate your posts.
Hwy 276 between Brevard and Cedar Mountain opened Friday. Gravel has replaced pavement in the area that had to be built back.
Hwy 276 from Cascade Lake Road to SC is closed. I think they allow people who live near Caesar’s Head to travel to Brevard.
Hope this helps.
🙏💕🪽
Good news. The Park Service has reopened the Blue Ridge Parkway between the Virginia line and Fancy Gap, or about 200 miles, and has committed to reopening the rest of it as soon as possible.
Thank you to all who got that done.
That’s another thing, those NC areas depend on the fall tourist business which will not be happening this year.
Over the mountain Erwin’s Apple Festival (150,000 attendees) got whacked.
Someone asked about physicians & nurses – I am a physician (MD) in AL patiently awaiting a temporary emergency license from NC. It is frustrating, as I applied to volunteer via “ReadyOp NC” but got a response over the weekend that said they had more than enough docs & nurses!
My situation is even more unusual given that I am a committed Christian who happens to be a psychiatrist. I served in the Navy & was trained as part of a disaster response team. In preparation to serve in NC I did a continuing ed course to be “up to date” on current thinking about disaster response. I LOVE Western NC having hiked, backpacked, and mountain biked extensively up there. Even trained in Wilderness Medicine.
Nobody seems to understand the psychiatric / mental health needs in disasters, both for survivors as well as rescuers. This is a “long haul” issue, and I can do this roughly half-time for as long as it takes. Even Samaritan’s Purse does not have a place for such work (I had a nice conversation with a volunteer coordinator yesterday).
I will watch this comment section, if ANYONE has possible contacts, PLEASE let me know! Even without a license, there is a lot I can do on an informal basis.
Thank you and please KEEP TRYING.
Your skill, compassion, and experience would be such a blessing in “everyday ways” for individuals who have been traumatized and some continually traumatized due to the situation … I hope you are able to find a way through so you are able to freely serve ….
Thanks, as i just responded below, I will likely head up next week whether or not I have permission. I think I will initially head through TN & drop down towards Burnsville … but am open to suggestions.
That’s encouraging. Your presence will make a difference regardless of the details. I learned something about how “being present” helps – from my brother, after his dear wife of over 50 years died. (Yesterday would have been their 61st wedding anniversary)He was devastated. They had so much daily fun and good things during their long life together.
She died after a decade long treatment for breast cancer, and he told me later that the friends/people who ministered to him the best were those who were capable of simply being with him. Not having to talk. Not having to present “solutions” or “fix things”.
He said he also realized then how very few people are really capable of doing that.
So go in Jesus’ name, ApoloDoc, and be with them.
Thanks, Sharon. I am intimately aware of the ‘being there’ aspect of terminal care. I took care of my wife during the terminal phase of her cancer at home. Tomorrow will be 10 years since she ‘went Home’. I learned much about sacrificial love during her cancer.
Perhaps a clarification is good: my brother’s comment had to do specifically with those who came to him after she wend on Home ahead of us, but the lesson applies all around. He and she both believers as well….
Like you, it was also my privilege to walk with my DH for the last four months of his life, now 10 1/2 years ago. He was diagnosed with a primary liver cancer (never used drugs or alcohol, btw) in October, given a one year prognosis in November, and left us on March 1, just 4 months. I have found since then that the memories of those good (and painful) months are a blessing to me.
The Lord helped us deeply in ways we didn’t even know to ask for.
Try Calvary Chapel Asheville. They are a hub for recovery efforts. https://www.calvarychapelasheville.org/
Sorry, no contacts but….AS an RN of 45 years or so…the mother of now adult ADHD kids…I can say that society still does not get it on mental health or disaster response/PTSD. Be persistent….I thought licensing in disasters was supposed to be overlooked…?
I recall that as an issue after Katrina?
Anyway, many prayers for you!
Yes, it is supposed to be a quick process … but it seems that the medical establishment (which is strongly left-leaning) isn’t moving so quickly.
You mean the same good folks who promoted the jab?
Left leaning— yes!
I talked with someone last night (ex-longtime Special Forces) who has been in the worst areas twice. He mentioned how people have PTS and mental exhaustion. Some are coping by helping their neighbors. Others who lost all are almost zombie-like at times. I hope you get there ASAP. Prepare yourself, because the situation is exponentially worse than we’re being told. Death and destruction are beyond imagination I was told.
Indeed, the long term will produce more emotional harm than physical (in survivors, and as I mentioned) the rescuers.
I work a limited amount (solo, outpatient “off-grid” outside of corporate medicine) but otherwise will seek to be up there. I plan to go Wed or Thursday of next week, whether or not I have ‘official sanction.’
Godspeed doctor!
Please keep us updated. Godspeed and Thank You!
I say just go and start talking to people. Don’t ask permission from those whom abused us.
Just go and help. God will richly bless you and He will provide what you need.
Thank you so much.
🙏❤️
When man blocks the way, we turn to the Lord. So, Lord, in Jesus’ name we ask You to provide a way for this person to be able to minister to the people in need in NC. Amen.
AMEN.
Don’t give up. If you can swing a chainsaw or have an ATV or can supply gas, water, and Buddy heaters, blankets, sleeping bags, heavy duty tents, to any local church who is up doing the work, that is extremely valuable. Your time will come for the kind of help you offer. Yes, you are extremely valuable, but right now people are still digging out, and making runs with ATVs delivering food, water, gas up into the remote mountains.
Ask Grindstone Ministries if they could use you. They are boots on the ground and doing very hard physical work, but may understand your skillset and how valuable it is.
Good thoughts! I actually have my gear together for doing the physical work as well. I have thought of that approach, helping with clearing & such, and beginning dialogue with people. It actually would help ‘break barriers’ more quickly, connecting with locals.
I have tried to contact a couple of churches, I do intend to pursue that approach as well. I’ll check out that ministry.
Hi. I am in Johnson City TN and there is a great FB page (Come Hell or Highwater: Hurricane Helene Volunteering in East TN) that has TONS of info and contacts: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1308205933896305
Many of the volunteers are ordinary, meaning not professional search and rescue, and have seen extraordinary things they have never seen before. The lineman and cleanup crews are finding death and destruction at a level many have never seen. Certainly the survivors need your help but the rescuers and volunteers will have deep wounds too. Please help as many as you can. We are praying for them and you. God bless you!
Have you contacted local churches?
They might be able to use you as a volunteer “counselor” rather than as a full fledged psychiatrist, by-passing the need to obtain temporary licensing.
You might check in with Mercury One, a group affiliated with Glenn Beck, but not a Mormon group, so I believe they will accept help from people of any religious faith or none.
God bless you for helping.
Are any of the National Guard from your state deployed to disaster relief efforts.
I wonder if anybody in your local unit might have some decent contacts to get you properly to certified.
How about the Salvation Army? Could they assist you? The United Way? How about Doctors Without Borders?
Good luck to you, and thank you for your service, and thank you for your sincere compassion for the victims of this catastrophic devastating weather event
Could you use Zoom for your patient encounters until you can get your emergency NC license?
Not everybody is offline. You might not be able to be in contact with the people who are caught up in the mountains, but you could be available for lots of folks.
Try contacting this lady. Her name is Steffanie Mormino. She too is a Christian. Sh knows people who were doing search and rescue but now mostly are trying to recover bodies. She says that the estimate of 200 deaths accounts for only the bodies that have been positively identified. That must be taking a horrible toll on the people doing that work. A few minutes of this video should give you her vibe.
Here is the contact page from her website. She probably knows some of the right local people around Marshall, NC.
https://theaeroponictowerchannel.com/contact/
God bless you for the work you want to do.
🪽💕🙏
You are a gem, keep the faith that God will put you exactly where you need to be. How crazy no one has a place for the mental and emotional health. Simply doesn’t make sense.
Find a church group w/an address. There is nothing more healing than being w/someone that has the art of listening skills. Add disaster skills, wilderness medicine on top of that? Go to YouTube Mark Huneycutt, try to reach out to him. He is in the thick of it and is a former military pilot. He interviewed a woman that definitely needs your services. I will be back w/the link.
This lady. I can’t stop thinking about her. Her info is listed on Mark’s YouTube.
This woman, her info is listed, sorry I responded down below to myself instead of you. I think about her all the time wondering how she is doing. Her info is in Mark’s comment section.
It seems crazy to me that you have been turned away by major disaster response teams. The need for disaster mental health disaster response ESPECIALLY for psychiatrists is always immense. A colleague of mine who responded to Katrina found that although many people weren’t ready to process their trauma as they were focused on basic survival needs, filling out FEMA paperwork etc, they were in dire need of getting medications they’d lost replaced etc etc. It used to be that the Red Cross had highly organized disaster mental health response teams but I don’t know if that is another entity that has been destroyed by liberals. One doesn’t hear too much about them anymore since it came out that much of the money that’s donated goes to paying huge salaries for bureaucrats rather than disaster victims.

Huh???
I think larro is asking for contacts for HAM radio.
Thank God for HAM radio.
It works after just about everything else fails, plus my brother tells me a large majority of the liscense holders are patriots.
Thank you!
Great pic of what “above ground power” is subject to. It’s a single point of failure and vulnerable to “weather”.
Solar above ground power is no substitute for power generation by traditional means.
Solar power has roof leaks and upftont costs include 1/3 for the salesman that sold you that pig in the poke.
I’ve heard recently that the cost of properly painting solar panels is exorbitant. Unsure of whether anything I read is actually true, or simply more click bait 😞
The cost of properly MAINTAINING solar panels allegedly is exorbitant!
Actually not so. Panels take virtually no maintenance, and generally will still produce 80% of rated power after 20 yrs. Washing off dust, dirt, etc is about it. And you do NOT paint them! That would block the light. Basically its aluminum & glass surfaces => no maintenance. The only real drawback is storage, as battery banks are not cheap.
Not to mention all that zinc runoff poisons the land, including downstream from these “farms”, against anything growing there in the foreseeable future.
That I was unaware of.
Not sure where you would get “zinc runoff” as you are dealing with aluminum as the primary structural component.
Your comment made me curious so I looked around and found this:
“Zinc is used in solar panels in the following ways:
If they didn’t plan for this to not happen, then their insurance company should refuse to pay any claims.
When I first saw this photo a couple days ago, I had only one word for all the greenies
SINFUL.
Don’t anyone ever forget what happened to the Texans relying on solar during their unexpected deep freeze
Solar panels can be designed and installed to resist anticipated loads. Questions to be asked, what were the design loads, and what was the failure load.
Obviously, if this was a tornado, winds > 150 mph, most building/structures fail. Looks like the path of a tornado.
They pollute far more than provide any electricity. They do not weather well and ruin the soil underneath.
Seems a gross generalization. Some systems work just fine.
I designed and used a system in a heavy snow load area (350 psf, Sierra Nevada mountains, extremely heavy loading) that generated 110% of electrical needs. The PUD credited my water bill for excess electricity generated.
System worked fine as designed. It weathered just fine and didn’t pollute the soil.
The mining process is terrible and uses child slave labor in the Congo. Almost all solar panels are manufactured by communist slave labor in China. And since they put out a variable load, they can’t feed power straight into the grid but have to have a storage system of some kind which means a lot of manufacturing and using good petroleum and coal to get it done.
They can be fed directly into grid via inverter.
The system I built had two meters, one for electric used the other for the amount generated. No storage. No batteries.
Tornados accompanied this storm event. Tornado wind loads can be in the 250 to 300 psf range. Other than essential facilities such as hospitals and emergency operation centers, it is not practical to design buildings or structures for this level of loading.
No sh!t.. all that money blown away that could
have been spent on critical transformers and turbines, etc.
I wonder if the leaky containment pond with spent rods was breeched by flood waters in Levy County at the Crystal River power complex spreading radioactivity around..
I hope those yoyos don’t try a rate hike on us to rebuild that foolishness.
I have packed up boxes of new and barely used warm winter clothes to send, does anyone have the address of a church or organization that is accepting clothing donations? There was one on FaceBook I was planning to send to that put a pause on donations–any help on where to send would be appreciated!
Have you done a search on Google? Isn’t there a website named “Charity Navigator”, or something,?
If all else fails, try calling up your local Salvation Army and see if they know.
I seem to recall that several months after Hurricane Katrina there were literally TONS of used clothing sent by Americans to New Orleans, but had to be dumped in landfills because nobody wanted
the old used clothing.
There were quite a few articles back then about this.
Do a SEARCH at Google and after you scan the Search Research’s, then click on NEWS for current articles about clothing donations
I did a search on North Carolina “clothing donations” and there were plenty of potentials places listed, such as:
Clothing Ministry – First Baptist Church Raleigh, North Carolina
https://fbcraleigh.org/grow/clothing_ministry/
I’d email first to make sure they are open for donations at this time
NOT google, if I may. Duckduckgo.com (still loosely tied to DS/Big Tech/Microsoft) gives better middle-of-the-road results vs google’s heavily left-weighted, excessively limited results.
Qwant.com (French-owned) is also good, but I’m not sure they’re quite as complete as DDG.
Google purchased Duck Duck Go years ago
I do not trust any search engine, nor do ZI trust any browser.
Until PDJT returns we are living in a land run by a criminal syndicate.
Safety doesn’t exist ANYWHERE online and and maybe it never well.
Founder Gabriel Weinberg still owns DDG, although it’s probably shared now with a few private investors.
Thanks for the update!
SEARCH. NEWS for: south carolina clothing donations at DuckDuckGo
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=south+carolina+clothing+donations&t=h_&iar=news&ia=news
Be careful where you donate. Many donation boxes go to illegal aliens in my area.
Yeah thats what I want to avoid! I thought perhaps some posters here may have direct knowledge of good organizations, I have done google searching as well.
Okay. The news stories might list churches accepting donations.
alleycats posted an extensive list of churches about 10 days ago. Most are Baptist churches in Erwin TN and Newport TN. That list may have been posted on Day#8, possibly Day#10? Individual church web sites indicated what they needed, and where to send.
Lotsa stuff posted on October 6th Hurricane Helene thread, including alleycats. I took screen shots so that I could have contact info on my phone instead of having to do searches.
Figured!
Frankly so many “charities” are making YUGE bucks with the influx of the illegal aliens, that I don’t trust any charities or NGOs anymore.
Am awaiting major disclosures on EVERYTHING.
If I had a large box of decent winter for North Carolina, I’d pick a stray address, send them a letter, telling them to expect arrival of a box and ask them to take it to a charity they trust. Or to just leave it on the curb with a big FREE sign.
Who ever could have believed how corrupt ALL our major institutions actually are?
Yeah, I shoulda read this before I posted the above.
NO problem.
Years ago Google purchased Duck Duck Go.
They didn’t change the name and there was no big fanfare about their purchase.
I don’t know who all owns anything anymore, and I wouldn’t trust any thing that claimed to know.
Big Tech is simply waaaaay outrageous.
Scooping Up all the brightest young adults for decades and having them concentrate on addicting us to social media. EVIL.
So many potentially great minds and possible stunning inventions and discoveries prevented by Big Tech LIARS hogging all of America’s talented youth in order to hog everybody’s clicks for cash and to illegally surveil everybody 24/7.
Sick pathological psychopathic creepy bunch of peeping tom dirty old men.
Disgusts me to no end.

Could probably visit website to read about their outreach.
On the next page in this post, someone pasted a notice from the FB page of Team Dominator.
I don’t do Facebook so I can’t provide a link.
But it should be relatively easy to find Reed Timmer’s Dominator Team
They had a list of things needed immediately and also mentioned,
“CLOTHING ITEMS ARE NOT NEEDED AT THIS TIME FOR THESE LOCATIONS – That will be in a separate post.
THANK YOU,

So apparently they plan to distribute some clothing items

Exactly.
Mostly a waste of air and space.
Governor Cooper? An ineffective eunuch.
Looks like the gov and his minions are using a teleprompter AGAIN! What the hell is the matter with these buffoons? Can’t they speak off the cuff with bullet point reminders? This is bullsh!t!
Should be a hoot.
But I won’t see it, because watching Cooper speak always gives me mental nausea. He’s the creepiest North Carolina politician alive I do believe. (I use the word “alive” very loosely.)
I can’t watch it either, but it’s always possible that there might be one or more tidbits of important info for locals, if they choose to watch it listen.
NC needs a new governor.
Yes. Most definitely.
He should never have gotten elected in the first place.”Won” by 6-8k votes while leftist-run Durham County threw 95k votes into question.
As we age as a nation incompetence grows even larger. We have many, typically government, who have no skills but are driven by political ideology. Then there is the saddest and sorriest, aka, Congress.
Great comment.
The intentional dumbing down of America accompanied the intentional managed decline of America.
ALL done on purpose, via infiltration not invasion
You know, it just occurred to me, something else…… There’s no way to ever know the facts, but wouldn’t it be interesting to learn how many government employees are freemasons?
Seriously, they all take vows to secretly support one another no matter what, so…… not merely political affiliation is blatantly slanted in the bureaucracy, but for all we know, which we never will, secret societies may be at work too.
Just a suspicion that there are numerous Dark Forces at work, and not “,merely” a huge gaggle of compromised corrupt pervert politicians…
/🛑 STOP. Silence! 🤐
For my daughter…its the inconvenience… she hired a private insurance adjuster who will also deal with fighting the insurance company….am guessing that will cost a pretty penny.
She, grand and dogs are staying with a friend…so she is blessed. God is good. Grand goes back to school today…
My head spins at the irony of her living in an area…for 3/4 of her life…where tornadoes are prevalent…and never experienced one close by…lived in FL 1/4 her life…never had bad issues with hurricane damage…and its a tornado that brought her down, in FL…
Again, praying for the people who are struggling mightily…
Prayers up for your daughter. ❤️🙏
At least wind/tornado damage should be covered by insurance. Those without flood insurance in the mountains are in a very bad way.
Former Army Ranger volunteering in western NC:

Fema agent must be a real domestic terror.

Paul, I could not get this to open. I tried several different variations.
Okay. Finally got it to open. This just should not be happening.
Already cold on a sunny day.
I live in the ‘armpit’ of Florida, roughly six miles from the Georgia state line. Helene took our roof about 50% off and flying debris smashed four of our windows. FEMA said they would ‘help.’ Twenty some days later, I’ve heard nothing from them and I have had to divert ‘bill paying‘ money into “roof fixin‘” money. Three BIG holes in the roof has caused my ceiling to collapse in two different rooms.
I understand that Western NC got it ten times harder than we did, and the middle of Florida caught bad on the next storm, but you can’t get anyone with intelligence on the phone to see where we are in line. I am 71 and in good health, but my wife, 70, has an advanced case of dementia and Alzheimer’s. I have my hands full with caring for her. I owe it to her after 50 years of marriage.
I’m not crying for help. We are fixing things ourselves, but gee whiz, Wally… maybe they should at least send me a form letter telling me to sit down, shut up, and they’ll get to me when they get to me. I’m diverting too much living, eating, and medicine money to fix the roof because they are seeing another set of big storms heading our way.
VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
Bad is bad brother, no matter where or why. FEMA is not doing anything in NC either except chasing the real help away.
You’re in our prayers for sure.
Thank you.
I am so sorry. It is all relative, your world is your world and if things are messed up, they are messed up. I hope some Angels will come your way and have some answers for you. You are on the prayer list.
The lesson for all of us is to understand Ronald Reagan’s admonition “I’m from the government and here to help.” Reagan was spot on. Private citizen groups are far more efficient than government agencies to help in natural disasters. Our biggest challenge as citizens will be to pare down our federal, state and local governments so they provide only those services that are essential. Our bloated government is in the process of self destruction as they get fatter and less effective in governing. Just as the USSR imploded so will the USA. We need to work hard together to establish a fair and just society when we pick up the pieces.
There is a sense from volunteers that the national media has moved on — almost as quickly as the hurricane passed through the region.
National media was never really there from the start. Americans will stay the course. Private sector will continue to show up.
The rebuilding will require federal money though and that means they will use their own inefficient, greedy contractors–and don’t forget the kickbacks–to come in and totally make a mess of the region. President Trump, the builder, the developer, would be the perfect leader at this point. If he wins in a landslide, with a mandate, maybe he can somehow influence the direction of the recovery even before he takes office (if they let him take office). Wishful thinking, I know. But through prayer we have hope.
Volunteers, you are our heroes. Stay strong.
Election propaganda. The mouthpieces just gotta move on and do their “real” jobs.
Awesome to watch. This is another example of Real America at work. From a week ago, there are others going back to Oct 4. If already posted here, this is for others like me who missed it
Soldiers assigned to C co. 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment assist volunteers at a church in loading and organizing supplies for a local community … conduct door-to-door welfare check in a local community in the wake of Hurricane Helene in western N.C. Oct. 8, 2024.

There are several other videos of the 101st and 82nd on youtube, plus one or two for the Rednck Army. (Didn’t find any for NCNG yet.) Watching some of this footage, I didn’t have tears streaming down my face but it was a very near thing.
I don’t know who gave the orders for these deployments, political friend or foe, but may God richly bless those decision(s).
101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Ops in Western North Carolina
Cannot agree with the last line of your post. Helene made landfall on 9/26. This deployment occurred 12 days later. Heck of a long time for stranded people to wait for water and rescue.
They’re there and working hard, which is a helluva lot more than the feds can say.
Sister and her family live in Asheville and she says the churches have been their biggest help.
Yet most of crazy Asheville will probably still vote for Kamala,
Are FEMA trailers coming? Can we donate campers? Can we put together a camper caravan and get housing to these people in Tenn/ NC ?

Checking in from Fort Myers Beach –
Biggest take away is stupidity of spending $45 MILLION on sand and not having an anchoring system below or sea grass / plants on top – last 2 storms have completely washed this sand directly into drain system that they spent 2 yrs and millions more cleaning out-
It’s unfathomable that this kind of mistake can be made without willful intentional neglect –
Anyone with even a small tiny morsel of a brain knew the sand would just wash away with each future storm-
Hats off to DeSantis for getting trash from Helene picked up in record time –
Doesn’t seem to be much of any help from Feds or state -people are despondent , housing prices have plummeted by 1/2 since pre IAN – more flooding of Island in last 2 yrs than previous 50 yrs combined .
Weather manipulation is beyond obvious to most everyone who has been here for any length of time .
The flood insurance has been reasonable, The wind (particularly People’s NO Trust) is beyond criminal .
Like Maui this is a pure land grab , forcing many common folks out – only the truly rich can afford to stay and only Globalist Companies can afford to build commercially-
God Bless and Good luck to all those getting their asses kicked by man made climate change which is code for Govt geo engineered weather manipulation.
Thank you SD for the prayers.
We live 50 miles north of Asheville, on the south Toe River which begins at the base of Mt Mitchell.
We’ve lost everything, our house with over 5 feet of water, silt and mud all vehicles and truck. Road out the storm on the John Deere tractor in upper pasture with dog, parrot and husband.
Have just begun to get internet and cell service back, the numbers of dead/missing are not being told to any of us. We are 20 minutes out of the nearest little town and aren’t sure when power is might be restored. It looks like complete desolation here.
G-d gives us a kiss or two each day, of which we are so grateful.
Husband trying to deal with insurance companies and FEMA today, he borrowed a car to get to town. A neighbor who’s home is without power but suffered no damage evacuated to Kentucky several days in to this and told us to stay as long as we want, so we are warm and dry and have use of a generator.
I know early voting will start 17th…will crawl through broken glass and debris to vote for Trump!
Bless you Darnell and prayers for you and your family!
Praying for you…!
Is there anything we can do for you? What do you need?

EMPOWER/MOUNTAIN WAYS DISTRIBUTION WAREHOUSE
1190 Old Ashville Hwy
Newport, TN 37821
This is a warehouse that is being used as a distribution center for supplies to TN and W. NC. Current need is for GENERATORS, HEATERS, EXTENSION CORDS, AND BUILDING SUPPLIES.
Churches and non-profits are being asked to call for current needs and to not send things that aren’t on the “needs” list.
CALL 423-465-2466
Helpful info. Thank you! The telephone number most appreciated.
This has evolved from the Crossroads Community Church distribution center, one of the first into the fray. These volunteers worked nearly around the clock for the first several days.
The church ran out of room on site and this warehouse was donated. They have combined forces with some of the other area churches, along with Empower which was a resource before the flooding, and are continuing to push out supplies and help every day.
Amen.
I have a brother living in Burnsville, NC, whose house is a half mile up a steep, graveled, private road, through dense forest. Downed trees made the road impassible. He was initially completely stranded without power, water, and communication. Fortunately his house was not struck by trees, but he does have water damage.
It was volunteers from Samaritan’s Purse who came 4-5 days after Helene who opened and repaired his road. Restoration of power, and water could take months. Burnsville’s city water system is out. Main roads out of the area are open so it is possible to get gas, food, and necessities if secondary roads are passable.
Volunteers are the ones working to help recovery — not FEMA, or the state of NC.
I live 20 minutes outside Burnsville, this is true. Although it’s our neighbors and community helping each other, no one else not even samaratins purse has been out here. We registered with them yesterday for heavy equipment work. Talked to FEMA today, totally incompetent woman who had zero answers for my husband who said he wasn’t interested in 750 dollars , he needed to know details of what other assistance was available . She said a case worker would have to get in touch in 2 weeks or so….
Winter is fixing to set in and we don’t have 2 weeks to squander.
Very frustrating
The weaponized DOD is all set to shoot to kill Americans!
Leo Hohmann: Pentagon Issues Federal Directive Allowing Military to use ‘Lethal Force’ Against Americans as Video Resurfaces Showing Kamala Fantasizing About Weaponizing DOJ Against U.S. Citizens
…one month before a tense presidential election, the U.S. Department of Defense has authorized U.S. military “defense intelligence components” to use “lethal force” against American citizens if requested by state or local law enforcement in an emergency situation…
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2024/10/leo-hohmann-pentagon-issues-federal-directive-allowing-military/
Note the date that the DoD issued the directive on 9/27 which happens to be the SAME DAY Helene hit NC/TN.
Sometimes there are conspiracies that happen to be discovered in investigations unless Magoo is in charge.
The government is going to kick off CW2.0, not Americans. Count on it.
They already did this on January 6. Rosanne Boyland comes to mind.
Remember Esper’s comments about the summer riots and the military? Gee, wonder what has changed?
A Christian org. whose channel I watch, sent truckloads of supplies along with Gators to travel in country. They have boots on the ground and have located bodies under piles of debris – not seen but, though I hate saying it – by smell.
They’re marking the areas for recovery. FEMA came along the day before their guy was making this report – was probably day before yesterday and the 1st time they’ve seen any FEMA people in their days working through these disaster areas.
They went over to talk to them (FEMA had a cadaver dog with, I believe) and FEMA said they had somewhere to go but would be back. One of the people with them, who lives around there, said they won’t be back – because of “security issues”.
FEMA is pretending they’re being threatened by people who’ve come down there to help, though I wouldn’t doubt they may have been, because rescuers and humanitarian workers are not about to blocked anymore from giving aid to these suffering and desperate people!
FEMA had blocked plenty at the start of this and confiscated aid and goods brought down there.
This org I saw the report from I’m pretty sure were packing and I know they had former Marines along on their trucks hauling things down there.
FEMA creeps should have a special place just for them – set aside to ‘keep them safe’. Sounds like they should be guarded well – til someone comes pick them up and deliver them to where they belong.
They are very concerned though, because it’s getting so cold that when things are cold enough, these bodies won’t be locatable anymore.
So much debris in big piles over such an immense area will make it impossible to search everywhere.
Some families will never know what happened to their loved ones. It’s like the final insult on all the injury that’s been done to them.
FEMA’s people and their evil deeds and the ones behind this damage brought by this storm and the viciousness of it – that I’ll never believe was all organic in nature and substance – will have to face God’s justice.
May the days of Haman come upon them – and may they be repaid in kind… LORD hear my prayer, Amen
When I heard that some government agency(maybe FEMA) tried telling a pastor he had too many people staying inside the church, I was so done done with anything to do with he government.
For me, anyplace with 4 walls and a roof that can keep people safe from the elements should not be told they have to tell people to leave.
If I have people packed wall to wall in my home giving them shelter due to a disaster, regulations be damned.
Illegals pack into houses and apartments all the time. Just saying. Ok for them, but not Americans in dire need.
im just north east of clearwater and we made out ok. still some local flooding and the rivers might crest soon.
A man I know in Asheville is making steel barrel wood stoves to donate to rescuers and others interested; he has set up a Give Send Go and is tagged as wncheatfairy, and on X at @wncheatfairy, if would consider a small donation. Steel barrels are 80-90 dollars; wood stove kits are 100 dollars at Northern Tool. Western NC Heat Fairy is his ID. I sent a donation; he has donated 8 so far. No pressure, just wanted to help spread the word.
A friend of mine turns the drums of old washers/dryers into bonfire pits. I imagine that there lots of drums in the hurricane zone that could be used. They can’t be used as indoor wood stoves though.
Anyway, good for this man to be helping out.
Spreadsheet of the missing:
I love getting the information out. But I hate it when it gets presented in the same ways PROPAGANDA is presented. I saw a video someone took from a drone showing absolutely horrible damage but they but some weird “fun” and “upbeat” sounding music with it.
This is serious stuff. It should be taken seriously and not appear as any sort of emotional manipulation. The information should stand on its own.
Totally agree. HATE when people feel compelled to put music with videos of destruction and people working. Silence would be more impactful.
Couldn’t agree more! So glad you brought that up. Whenever I bring it up I get hammered.
I live in a small town west of Asheville. Just me and my two big dogs. I didn’t have the damage that so many other people have had… Just one tree down and lots and lots of cleanup. I’ve had power and water issues. Power back on …..still no water. So thankful most of my trees and house were spared during the storm. I praise God every day for that.
During the storm, alone with my two big dogs, I prayed continuously, watching my big trees rock and roll with the continuous downpouring of rain. Amazingly, just after the storm passed, I discovered I still had a little transistor radio that I’ve had for 40 years and was able to get on a local AM radio station. which has truly been a ray of hope and a source of tremendous help for the people of WNC. Although the DJ’s were blocked in their studio, with fallen trees blocking their way out, not knowing if their loved ones were safe, they started offering wall to wall coverage on what had happened. A few misc. reporters on the outside were able to get in touch with the station to let people know what was happening. Over the next few days, somehow, some people were able to call in and tell of their experiences and ask for help. They were able to vent their sadness, frustration, disbelief and pain over what had happened to them, their properties,…trees on top of their houses and cars, their road blocked with no way out…total destruction. They were full of emotion, didn’t know what to do or where to go for help. You would not believe their stories. I’ve cried rivers of tears, and prayed thousands of prayers for their plight.
Those of you who live outside our area really can’t understand the massive destruction Helene has caused to these beautiful WNC mountains. It is just so heartbreaking! I don’t know the answer as to why this happened to us, but I do know God is still in control and He will help our people to overcome this tragedy someday. It will take a long, long time and I know people will suffer from PTSD in the years to come. Pray for the families and the little children! The storm has changed the landscape forever of this beautiful mountain region. so full of God’s beauty.
I’m not sure when we will know the final death toll…people are lost under their destroyed houses, people washed down the mighty rushing rivers, their houses with them. I listened to my little radio hearing someone talking about cows floating down a rushing river. Poor cows! One lone cow was standing on a dry spot. There were three dairy farms in one county. Now there are none… The cows lost in the mighty waters. I listened to one woman who witnessed people floating down the rushing river screaming for help.
I’ll be forever grateful to Elon Musk. Our cell phone towers were destroyed. He came in with his star links and helped us get a lot of our communication back. so that people could try to get in touch with their loved ones to let them know they were ok. If not for the little radio I had, I would have been lost to what was going on. It was a week before my son could get in touch with me.
I must say I’m so grateful to the many, many people and businesses who have come to our aid from all over the nation….my good neighbors who have looked after me, my neighbor offering his well for my drinking water. They are truly God’s angels. People taking care of their fellowman in crisis, and too, I feel social media has been a big key to our getting help. I’m so thankful for so many blessings. even in this season of pain and heartache.
Our mountain people are strong, God-fearing souls. We will overcome! It may take a while, but we will overcome!!!! PLEASE PRAY FOR US!!
Calle I cannot imagine what it is like experiencing the devastation and destruction–my heart hurts for the loss of human and animal life. I pray this somehow awakens people to the sanctity and value of life and the importance of self reliance and fellowship–and the importance of brotherly love. Heartfelt prayers to everyone in the mountains and hollers.
Praying!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You are on the prayer list! Thank you so much for sharing your story. I am glad you had your big dogs and radio. Nothing like a dog’s love when you need comfort. Bless the Beasts and the Children, and you!
My husband is working on relief efforts in the area – hauling in water. Yesterday he emptied 6,400 gallon tanker in about 4 hours to individuals coming with whatever containers they could find to hold water- jugs, totes, trashcans. He has been told this job could last 6-8 weeks or even more. The challenge is finding a suitable water source to fill the tanker as so many water sources in the area are compromised.

“This Family of 16 Was Inside Of A Tornado…”
My SO and I drove to Roan Mountain, TN this morning to donate winter clothing to Helene survivors. Drove through Elizabethton, TN on the way. These two towns have some creeks and small rivers running through them and are on the outskirts of the areas that were severely damaged. Now, I say severely damaged because I’m comparing what we saw this morning to pictures we’ve seen online of areas like Chimney Rock, Marshall, Erwin, and others that saw whole sections of towns, roads, houses, interstates, completely washed away.
The creeks and rivers were clogged with all kinds of tree and building debris. We saw many locals operating equatorial clear debris, saw trees, and clear mud. Most of that work had been done during the past week or so, but it is still on going. I can’t even imagine what Swananoa, Chimney Rock, and places that saw similar destruction are like right now. All local people and volunteers from other places are pitching in.
We saw two FEMA people at one location using laptops and typing. Avoided them like the plague. The location where we did take the clothes (lots of winter clothing) was very busy with people dropping things off, others sorting and stacking, others bagging and boxing donated items for those in need picking up what they needed. Everyone was cheerful and helpful and thankful.
The local people are getting it done. Everywhere.

God bless America, and WE THE PEOPLE!
Posted by Winklers Grove Baptist Church in Hickory NC:
Due to the overwhelming and positive response of all the gracious people in our area, churches, and companies across America, we are not shutting down but we are pausing the processing of donations at our current location. We are praying and searching daily for warehouse facilities to house all of the supplies that are being brought. Our desire is to be able to help them immediately, but also be prepared to help them a month from now.
Again, we are not shutting down but we are in a pause phase.
We are specifically waiting for these four things:
1). The community of Pensacola, NC and several other communities to open up for travel by truck and trailer. This is a community in the mountains that has been decimated. The needs of these people change daily. One community needs water desperately, while 20 miles away, another mountain community does not need water because they have springs.
2). We are simultaneously making preparations to provide aid to those communities impacted by the hurricane in Florida. We are delivering a tractor trailer of water to Florida on Monday. We are scheduling another tractor trailer of supplies to go to Florida a couple of days from that.
3). We have prepared/scheduled a tractor trailer of rolled hay to supply our mountain farmers that lost their hay crops during the flood.
4). Last but not least, to fully address the long-term needs of WNC families and other victims of natural disasters, and to help them in the most effective way, we need to secure a warehouse facility that we can work out of continually. We are currently working out of our upper and lower fellowship halls and parking lots. Please pray specifically that God will provide a long-term warehouse facility in the next couple of days and we will be able to immediately receive supplies to that facility.
It is our goal to meet the physical needs and to supply the necessities of life, while at the same time, ministering to the spiritual needs and sharing Christ with victims of natural disasters. If you would like to join us in this endeavor, you can go to our church website or QR code and donate money electronically, or you can send a check to “Winklers Grove Baptist Church” with the memo: “Happy Birthday Jesus!”.
We have regular unleaded at one of the corner stores! No diesel. The power trucks musta had it all, fine with me. Still no non ethanol for boats.
Only problem now is the rising river, canals and tributaries.
Some yards not on the water but below the water table have tea colored seepage coming up through the ground a foot deep in places. The water hasn’t crested yet and will take months to dissipate.
Our little slice of Paradise is under curfew 7pm – 7am as critical north south bridges could fail or be overwhelmed.
Buddy heaters, extension cords, and propane requested.
Those with medical needs and the elderly are being prioritized, as far as I know.
I tend to think that Western NC n Eastern TN don’t have this extensive storm damage to overhead power distribution.
But what I don’t understand is why Puerto Rico mountain regions don’t have their power distribution line underground. Overhead power distribution workers are expensive, work is difficult – even in the best conditions w long leadtimes and slow recovery. I worked in the power generation industry, but had freq supervisory training with overhead and underground supervisors.
I realize PR is notoriously corrupt but every disaster to PR results in human misery and long power restoration, mostly bec of bring the overhead power construction. Underground vaults for main feeds cables, transformers and switching would be protected. 480v overhead is understandable, but there are numerous workers for doing that level of restoration.
I know, I’m off topic n I’m not trying to steal this thread, just an inquiring mind.
Let the games begin.

“What so ever you do for the least of your brethren, you do for Me”.
I know that the Lord is smiling down on all who are out there engaged in the tasks of help…and those donating.
God bless you for keeping this tread open as communication is so vital. I am in western North Carolina, just miles for the damage. Forever the landscape has been changed. This is a volunteer effort for sure. Today it began snowing as well, just flurries but it is cold. Prayers for everyone and thanks SD for all that you do and stand for.
Retired Magistrate here: Just received a call from my disabled cousin who has a condo in Clearwater, Florida. He just got power back on today at 3:15 P.M. He has lived in Clearwater for 21 years and has never experienced anything like what he has in the last three weeks: back to back Cat. 3 Hurricanes. With over 100 mph winds rain came in through the sides of his windows and his bedroom is soaked. Of course black mold has set in. He has people coming tomorrow to tear out the old carpet and disinfect the room, dry it out and replace the floor.
He said the biggest problem now is fuel and lack of food. A friend of his went out yesterday and all he could find was cole slaw and so that is what they had for dinner. The shelves are bare. He is going out first thing tomorrow and get to the store at 6:00 A.M. and see what he can buy. The roof on his condo has to be replaced so assessments are going to be over $5,000 before the end of the year. He is on a fixed income so it is going to be rough.
I will check in with him tomorrow and if he can’t find food, I will box up non perishables and send it down to him. I offered today but he thinks he can find something to eat. He did receive mail today.
Finally, he stated that the “snowbirds” are now coming down for the Winter and to check on their Winter homes which will further stretch very limited resources.
Praying & donating.
Godspeed & God bless!
