The Asheville airport is the largest airport. As you could tell by the individuals present, this is a different place than Asheville…Trump country.

Helene death stats disputed
On Saturday(Oct 19) I called to volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse. Not living in the area (from Wisconsin), I had to register as an overnighter (from 3 days up to 2 weeks). But I couldn’t seem to get registered for the volunteer slots for November-all the way through November 30th. I called headquarters and they said that all overnighters stay in churches and the churches are completely full. I don’t have funds to stay at a hotel so had to stay home. One can volunteer as a day person but that would mean providing your own lodging and transportation. They are doing as good a job as they can but the devastation is so overwhelming!
