This has been my ear worm for the last several days… could listen to her albums all day long.
I’m a former singer – sang in Carnegie Hall with my choral group in 1989 under composer John Rutter with the New England Youth Ensemble. If you watch this Divinely gifted singer – look at her stomach as she sings. Her diaphragm is doing what good singers do… sing from the gut and push the song out with your diaphragm. Our instructor would have us put our palms on our diaphgragms while we sang, so we could feel the mechanics of it. God Is a wonderful engineer!
She is so soothing and groovy. Love her and love relaxing with her music in the background.

Lots and lots and lots of practice. Was so excited, I kept all the sheet music. John Rutter signed my marquee poster and I have a photocopy of his work “Te Deum” written in his handwriting, as it was his newer piece at the time and had yet to be published.
One of the guys in my group, his father worked for RCA at the time, and he smuggled in a small cassette recorder and recorded the whole thing on cassette tapes. I have two copies of those. Need to find them in my archives and see if they will still play. There is one moment where EVERYONE dropped out and only six of us carried the note – one of them was me… a first Alto.
We also performed “My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose” at the Riverside Cathedral. The first of my 15 minutes of fame experience in my lifetime. I’ve been blessed.
Here’s someone significantly better than me and our group singing that song. We sang it at a slower cadence – almost like a sorrowful mourning. It was gorgeous.

Got down to 29 deg at my central Indiana home this morning. Frost on the pumpkin! At least the dogs got used to the ghost sheets over Betty’s flowers and didn’t bark at them.
Sherry had emails showing that we had 3 invoices via Paypal pending today for a total of nearly $1,400. Two for Play station stuff and one for Norton anti-virus. We don’t use any of that crap. None showed up on our accounts at the bank per our banking app as pending though.
Neither Sherry or I use Paypal. I called the bank and they said they showed nothing pending. So it is a scam. I hate that shit!
They want your info – call them up to check and they need it to ‘investigate’ the problem.
So tiresome. I had a scam thing that made no sense to me as to what or how they’d get anything out of it. I suppose it’d be by working on me long enough to get usable info out of me.
First they said they were Medicare affiliated for and with Medicare in some way – and facilitating the issuing of new plastic Medicare cards.
I gave them a hard time about being a scam of some kind, and stated I wasn’t giving them any personal info, as if they were who they said they were, they should have it right there in front of them.
She stated my address and obviously already had my phone#, and she kind of had me thinking she was legit. She then said she needed to know what year I was first issued my Medicare card.
I said I didn’t have it on me and that I’d have to call her back. She did give me a phone number.
One thing I do know about official – at least gov issued SS Cards, you cannot plasticize them. My niece’s hubby laminated both of their cards, and they wouldn’t accept them (wherever they needed to use them – DMV or passport?). They told them they’d have to have new ones issued.
So, back to this lady – I did call back and told her I wasn’t comfortable with giving ANY info over the phone but that she should send me the info form and I’d fill out that – she did say okay…but as I figured that never happened.
But that is a technique I’ll use from now on with any insistent scam callers (if I’m feeling generous that day and don’t outright hang up).
During the next couple weeks I had two different people call again with same approach. The 2nd one I wasn’t warm or overly polite to when asking her to mail me the info – and she hung up on me.
The 3rd one I was friendly and polite to when asking, and she said she would before hanging up. That form, of course, never did arrive in my mailbox.
Such a weird approach – but for them to keep working it, they must get info and be getting money or something worthwhile out of it from enough people.

It’s the same scam as the liars pretending to be from Visa or Mastercard or? ‘security or customer service depts’. and they say ‘you have this big purchase shown’…. and ‘did you make it?’.. the pretending of concern…. the same ugly aggressive, -woman’s voice implying a threat…it’s so sick.and like so many of these frauds they prey on the vulnerable and elderly.
They are despicable.
rah: I receive scam e-mails, texts and calls all day long. The big one going around now is scammers sending texts and making calls, offering business loans. I must get 10-20 of these calls and texts every day, using area codes from all over the country. I don’t answer uknown callers and report junk texts, but, the scammers just use another auto-dialed fake number.
For what its worth, the FBI is supposed to have a division where you can report this stuff….

If I may butt in reassuringly, kind burroLady, your response to Ernst is very common. He is one of a kind. He is trying to unnerve you . Art is so very personal. My son loves this stuff, he says he ‘likes the lunacy of it.’ He knows quite bit about art, so that’s part of his eclectic taste. Some people love this slightly creepy slightly peculiar form of art. But to each his own, and good for Ernst for being himself and pushing back the boundaries of art. As Picasso did in his time and Cezanne did before him.
The best way to assess any piece of art is to take your time just looking at it with an open mind, and saying to yourself, ( and not worrying what anyone else thinks) ‘how does it make me feel’ if you love it’ that’s great and you may understand right away why you see it that way. It it slightly unnerves you it is likely the artist intends you to feel unnerved, and is making you look harder to find out why? Maybe to examine your preconceived notions.
Giorgio De Chirico is a good example of slightly unnerving strange landscapes with classical shapes and mysterious shadows. I rather like his work. I may not choose it for my bedroom wall though :-))
Presently in my bedroom I have one of the Group of Seven’s works. I love their work . Most people do. In these artist’s times many of the works were considered rough and unfinished. Now they are more understood. They were painting the rugged landscape of Canada, and they did it with vigor and how it feels to them, not the carefully finished-off more gentle landscape of England or France so loved in earlier days.

I studied fine art for a time a century ago and was required to paint a few more “modern” art style pieces – they sucked!
Impressionism is my favorite style, but
I actually like Cezanne, van Gogh, Pissarro, Toulouse Lautrec, Gauguin, and other post Impressionists quite well also. Seurat is my favorite.
I’m also a huge fan of Edward Hopper and his style.
And, I too am not enamored with carefully finished off gentle landscapes. Lots of technical expertise, but not much excitement and emotion in my opinion.
That really is the point though isn’t it? Art has something for everyone and every taste. Have a great evening! 😊
Dear Lady, Yes there is room for everyone’s tastes (if its in the normal range.. not the perverted and disgusting ‘art work’ involving buckets of urine etc. You know what I mean ) I also like Cezanne, as did Picasso 🙂 . I admire the contribution Picasso made to art. I wrote a paper on him once, mostly dealing the the influence of African art/masks on his work, (Especially ‘Demoiselles d’Avignon’)
I like Van Gogh, and ToulouseLautrec. I like so many! I also am not crazy about carefully finished landscapes .I do see the amazing skill of Constable, but I tire very quickly of art that is too ‘sweet’. I also am a huge fan of Edward Hopper.
I dislike a lot of art too, fussy stuff and writhing fleshy nudes, including, fat silly baby angels, early porn for the rich 🙂 .The names of some modern and other earlier artists I like have deserted me for the moment, put it down to old age . If I remember I will mention a name here and there.
Have you seen much of the art of the Group of Seven. ? You may like them. Naturally, I prefer some works more than others, But they were bold in their time, and trying to be completely themselves and true to depicting landscapes the not too many had really seen, and if they did maybe would not appreciate. Mostly Eastern Canada, as Emily Carr did for British Columbia. She did bold strong work before it was appreciated. I have enjoyed very much ‘talking art’ with you and hearing about what you like..
