My dad was educated in New Zealand where they discouraged kids thinking of coming to America…my dad got his hands on a short wave radio, got it working and used to listen to war time broadcasts and practice the American accent so when he came here, he would not be identified as a foreigner….the NY Irish experience is what the NZ socialists, way back then, used to discourage leaving…
