Our analysis of U.S. consumer prices in 2019 showed that prices of imported goods actually declined despite import tariffs. A 2024 report from CPA takes a look at the impact to Chinese exports to the U.S. [SEE DATA HERE] Bottom line, the tariffs worked to reduce Chinese imports.
2024 CPA – […] Since the Section 301 tariffs were imposed, the share of imports from China has steadily declined from 21.6% in 2017 the year prior to the tariffs to 16.5%, a decline of 5.1%. No other country has lost as much share of total U.S. import penetration over the past five years.
In terms of total import value, Mexico gained the most from the tariffs, adding $110.8 billion. Vietnam gained the second most in import value by $78.4 billion and by far gained the most of total share of U.S. imports. In 2017, Vietnam accounted for about 2% of U.S. imports at $46.5 billion. In 2022, the U.S. imported $127.5 billion in goods from Vietnam, and the share of the total nearly doubled to 3.9%. Other countries in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Cambodia, and Indonesia all saw significant increases in their value of imports by the U.S. (read more)
With the 2024 election rapidly coming, it is worth revisiting the actual tariff outcome to American consumers in order to dispel the popular myths about tariffs raising prices here at home. This might be the cited data you want to bookmark.
It was the Fourth Quarter of 2019…..
Right before the pandemic would hit a few months later, despite two years of doomsayer predictions from Wall Street’s professional punditry, all of them said Trump’s 2017 steel and aluminum tariffs on China, Canada and the EU would create massive inflation – it just wasn’t happening!
Overall, year-over-year inflation was hovering around 1.7 percent [Table-A BLS]; yup, that was our inflation rate. The rate in the latter half of 2019 was firmed up with less month-over-month fluctuation, and the rate basically remained consistent. [See Below] The U.S. economy was on a smooth glide path, strong, stable, and Main Street was growing with MAGAnomics at work.

A couple of important points. First, unleashing the energy sector to drive down overall costs to consumers, and industry outputs was a key part of President Trump’s America First MAGAnomic initiative. Lower energy prices help the worker economy, middle class and average American more than any other sector.
Which brings us to the second important point. Notice how food prices had very low year-over-year inflation – 0.5 percent. That is a combination of two key issues: low energy costs, and the fracturing of Big Ag’s hold on the farm production and the export dynamic:
(BLS) […] The index for food at home declined for the third month in a row, falling 0.2 percent. The index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs decreased 0.7 percent in August as the index for eggs fell 2.6 percent. The index for fruits and vegetables, which rose in July, fell 0.5 percent in August; the index for fresh fruits declined 1.4 percent, but the index for fresh vegetables rose 0.4 percent. The index for cereals and bakery products fell 0.3 percent in August after rising 0.3 percent in July. (link)
For the previous twenty years, food prices had been increasingly controlled by Big Ag, and not by normal supply and demand. The commodity market became a ‘controlled market’. U.S. food outputs (farm production) was controlled and exported to keep the U.S. consumer paying optimal prices.
President Trump’s trade reset was disrupting this process. As farm products were less exported, the cost of the food in our supermarket became reconnected to a ‘more normal’ supply and demand cycle. Food prices dropped, and our pantry costs were lowered.
The Commerce Dept. then announced that retail sales climbed by 0.4 percent in August 2019, twice as high as the 0.2 percent analysts had predicted. The result highlighted retail sales strength of more than 4 percent year-over-year. These excellent results came on the heels of blowout data in July, when households boosted purchases of cars and clothing.
The better-than-expected number stemmed largely from a 1.8 percent jump in spending vehicles. Online sales, meanwhile, also continued to climb, rising 1.6 percent. That’s similar to July 2019, when Amazon held its two-day blowout Prime Day sale. (link)
Despite the efforts to remove and impeach President Trump, it did not look like middle class America was overly concerned about the noise coming from the pundits. Likely that’s because blue collar wages were higher, Main Street inflation was lower, and overall consumer confidence was strong. Yes, MAGAnomics was working.
Additionally, remember all those MSM hours and newspaper column inches where the professional financial pundits were claiming Trump’s tariffs were going to cause massive increases in prices of consumer goods?
Well, exactly the opposite happened [BLS report] Import prices were continuing to drop:
This was a really interesting dynamic that no one in the professional punditry would dare explain.
Donald Trump’s tariffs were targeted to specific sectors of imported products. [Steel, Aluminum, and a host of smaller sectors etc.] However, when the EU and China responded by devaluing their currency, that approach hit all products imported, not just the tariff goods.
Because the EU and China were driving up the value of the dollar, everything we were importing became cheaper. Not just imports from Europe and China, but actually imports from everywhere. All imports were entering the U.S. at substantially lower prices.
This meant when we imported products, we were also importing deflation.
This price result is exactly the opposite of what the economic experts and Wall Street pundits predicted back in 2017 and 2018 when they were pushing the rapid price increase narrative.
Because all the export dependent economies were reacting with such urgency to retain their access to the U.S. market, aggregate import prices were actually lower than they were when the Trump tariffs began:
[…] Prices for imports from China edged down 0.1 percent in August following decreases of 0.2 percent in both July and June. Import prices from China have not advanced on a monthly basis since ticking up 0.1 percent in May 2018. The price index for imports from China fell 1.6 percent for the year ended in August.
[…] Import prices from the European Union fell 0.2 percent in August and 0.3 percent over the past 12 months.
So yes, we know President Trump can save Social Security and Medicare by expanding the economy with his America First economic policy. We do not need to guess if it is possible or listen to pundits theorize about his approach being some random ‘catch phrase’ disconnected from reality. Yes folks, we have the receipts.
This was MAGAnomics at work, and this is entirely what created the middle class MAGA coalition. No other Republican candidate has this economic policy in their outlook, because all other candidates are purchased by the Wall Street multinationals.
America First MAGAnomics is unique to President Trump, because he is the only one independent enough to implement them.
That’s just the reality of the situation. They hate him for it…

PDJT and his “Magic Wand” of Make America Great Again.

Abracadabra, gonna reach out and grab ya.
All of the so called economic “experts” were wrong, and Trump was right.
😆 🤣 😂
Again.
It behooves us to reorient our thinking to consider MSM and Wall Street “news” as background noise/elevator music.
It’s for our sanity — we know that their MO (modus operandi) is to maintain in our population a chronic state of worry, disquietude, and fear.
I’m not having any of it.
Once we become convinced — by empirical evidence — that “they” mean us harm, the battle is essentially over.
Tune them out and consider them no more a nuisance than your local carnival barker.
We have better things to do than to march to their lying, thieving clamor.
We are builders.
Even Krugman? /s
My liberal friend told me – back when Obama was still in – that Barky didn’t need to pay no never-mind to budget deficits or the national debt, he could just spend willy-nilly
The only quasi-reason I could discern in his explanations was:
“Because Krugman”
So great – thank you, Colkitto!
“Lower energy prices help the worker economy, middle class and average American more than any other sector.” [Sundance in this article] … There is NO secret to obtaining prosperity in a >modern economy. The usage of machines has made people more productive and prosperous now days. … +The usage of inexpensive energy has made life more comfortable and healthier, too!
Yes, there are other equally important issues in this election. … Those issues are also discussed here at TheConservativeTreehouse in other articles.
I am a firm believer in free energy. I believe it can be free to everyone, that we have the technology to do this aaaaaand, I also see that if it were free it would completely change all energy usage. Meaning the production of anything using energy would all of the sudden be unburdened by costs and especially profits allowing the most energy conserving machines to be built.
Same theory as loans and banks. Banks are useless unless you inflate prices so the only way you can afford something is a loan. Loans are superficially driving the prices of everything to an unaffordable level. Outlaw banks and you see prices plummet and the need for loans to disappear.
Energy, prices are inflated for profits, greed. If it were free the whole world would become modernized and energy efficiency would escalate continuously until the sky’s would look like “the jetsons” and the impossible would be possible.
All these barriers are self imposed by greedy people who will not willingly give up the overcompensation they now are given. Democrats are a perfect thumbnail of these abuses. It morphs into Marxism, communism, dictatorship, because their path is a lower path, frequency, vibration, bottomless pit, mentality where they must win not all of us collectively. Or they will not compete, they will destroy it all. And, historically they is the path they always take. None of this is new.
When the ignorant are ignored and routed from power we will find great things appear, we are on the edge of this opportunity but, we have been here many many times. The final step into a promised heaven has been taken away over and over. Pray, and do not look down. Do not engage in any negative thought only concentrate on the positive. Does not mean call a dictator a good man but it means see the blessing in the season. God is not surprised he waits for us.
Tesla & the “Force”
Actually, energy production should be a state right. A benefit to the people. The federal government has no authority, whatsoever, to control the production of oil, gas or any other development of a natural resource.
Blacktress Kamala and Coach Groomer call PDT’s tariffs a “national sales tax” when, in fact, they are taxes on foreign corporations.
Yet they don’t call their American Corporate Taxes a national sales tax.
“That’s what Xi said!”
We ever want manufacturing back, we have to make our market borderline inaccessible for ferners.
Walz called tariffs a national sales tax…
China called American Corporate Taxes a national sales tax…
It was a classic example of a ‘He said…Xi said’ disagreement. 🙂
😂
WORDMAN . . .
I see what you did there……..🤣🤓- mosta crever, Grasshoppa……!
Walz called tariffs a national sales tax
A tariff only equates to a sales tax if you buy the tariffed goods
If we tariff electric cars made in China, you can buy an electric car made in the USA and avoid the tariff surcharge
The entire purpose of tariffs is to disadvantage goods or manufacturers you want to disadvantage while encouraging other goods instead
Tariffs and imposts are the constitutional form of raising revenue.

From the very beginning of this journey,
I have been on a mission
to rescue our nation
from a failed and corrupt political establishment.
I will NEVER QUIT,
I will NEVER BEND,
I will NEVER BREAK,
and I will NEVER YIELD,
not even
in the face of death itself!
Well…. I love him for it.
Hubby and I should have already retired, considering both our age now, and how young both of us were upon entering the workforce.
But we simply cannot afford it. Our 401ks were decimated, and the value of our cash savings has dropped to frightening levels.
I know God will provide what we need, and I am eternally grateful.
However my government stole from us. And then stole the future from everyone coming along after us.
There must be a reckoning and a revival of the American way of life.
President Donald Trump is the only one who will accomplish that.
Where PDJT & MAGA’s enemies, and thus our, Heritage America & its Heritage Americans enemies, want to take us began with Council On Foreign Relations “Face Card” Republican Bush’s “New World Order”, which was to loot, gut, bankrupt and destroy America while building up the “New” superpowers in Asia. It’s PDJT-MAGA or bust because they want to detroy our country and us. Cheers & nice to read your excellent posts
You are absolutely correct.
I remember the moment I first heard Bush say New World Order. It gave me chills and an immediate sense of foreboding.
I’m also someone who has ALWAYS believed America should never give a penny to a foreign country, no matter the reason.
Yes! Me too! I was doing housework that morning, listening to the tv and heard him say that – actual chills and dread, foreboding as you said.
Shortly after the NWO speech, Stop Bush stickers appeared everywhere, especially on stop signs. One of the bands I like also came out with a song that reflected my angst with what Bush was referring to. I may have been a teenager then but what he was meaning came through loud and clear to me. My dad was no more happy than I was.
I think this was the time started putting things in place to try to protect me a and my brothers. I miss him every day but I am glad he did not live to see the disgusting things his former colleagues have been up to (prog Generals)
Mine as well.
To your latter point about foreign aid. I totally agree, and go a step further. The federal govt should NOT be giving our sums of money to anyone other than in instances it is written in to law and backed up by the Supreme Court.
This story about Davey Crockett rings true to the way I think. Congress should never view our tax payments as some bottomless pit of money they can go around saving people with. Even Americans.
See this story:

Another great one from Ben Garrison – thank you for posting it, Colkitto!
I especially love the Karl Marx bad wind, the Donkey driving over the cliff to war and Miss Liberty pointing with her torch to the MAGA direction – actually it is pretty scary, realizing what Colkitto had there for 2020!
Ty friend suejeanne. Your a great motivator. Cheers ma’am
Alleycats, I am right there with you…everything that you have said.
Our government and the arrogant powers that be… is hell bent on our destruction.
In earlier rallies, PDJT used to say…”with you by my side….we will make America Great Again”. I am sure he still feels that, tremendously. I truly believe he is Heaven’s tool.
“Jesus, I trust in you”.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:11-12.
We need that faith of the mustard seed…
Matthew 17:20, Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you”.
The waiting is hard….it is always darkest before the dawn….and the sun will come out for America…
🙏❤️🇺🇸 I got ya, girl. I know it’s going to be ok.
I get frustrated because I’m so tired some days. My chronic illness dislikes my needed work schedule..
Thank God once again for this magnificent Treehouse. Truly my refuge.
God bless you lil Alley cat.
Anything chronic is so devastating.
God has his arms around you… faith rest.
hugs
Thank you. ❤️
same here..I retired early due to a family tragedy at 54. My husband retired at 63 due to cancer, no pension..we have some rental properties and airbnbs that we break even on, I enjoyed managing them as a hobby. This economy has decimated our small”hobby” business and our savings, like yours, have dropped..we sold one house really low last Dec and sold our 2nd car…I am struggling to pay bills at seven houses, my cleaners want 50 an hour, everything has gone up in price and I have slashed my rates almost 50%..My 96% occupied house is down to almost nothing and now I am forced to sell the home and property that my dad gifted me. My mom was killed in a housefire on the property, we rebuilt and it was the first airbnb to tank in 2022..I feel like I am selling my mothers burial site and our family legacy. I am so sad and mad..this was all unnecessary..I hate what the Biden Administration did to this country!!!!
I’m so sorry for your tremendous losses. No one should be made to bear such agony.
President Trump is going to at least make moving forward simpler and much more prosperous for us.
God wants us to prosper, as Aggiegirl reminded us above. Hang tough and pray. ❤️

Thank you for another great economic synopsis, your explanations make it real easy for a blue collar guy such as me to understand what’s going on. Blessings.
What barely got noticed during Trump’s term in office was that in 2018 the Federal Reserve was absorbed by the US Treasury. Kind of a big deal…
End The Fed
I know you some of you despise the Fed but you must know, the Fed cannot stop the government from spending and borrowing ever. The most important thing by ending the Fed is it will cause a major economic depression. Even J. Powell has said that the spending and borrowing is unsustainable.
I know the Fed is Trapped but by removing them completely, it will unleash complete chaos. States back before the Fed ran amok creating there own money script and it failed. History repeats because people never actually look back to see if it’s happened before and what the outcome was.
All countries have Central Banks, it’s the politicians who corrupt those countries.
In a book about Shay’s Rebellion I read long ago, banker (or agent for something else?) agent Alexander Hamilton bribed and or coerced enough State delegates NOT to pay off the debt incurred from suppressing the (unjust) tax rebellion of Continental Army veterans and to keep the debt in place. “Recycling the debt” was how he put it. Keeping the debt kept the bankers in to influence government. He also used his bribery & coercion to get delegates to ditch our first constitution The Articles of Confederation which was a weaker Federal/Central government, for the Constitution. How long has the Constitution not been followed or created for a long range plan to bring us to this point of bankruptcy/Masonic Marxist takeover is up for speculation. The roots of the Fed were corrupt from the start and was never ratified by a majority of Congress, most had already left for recess.
Did you know that J.P. Morgan saved our country from bankruptcy? It was his model that the Fed was created. The Federal Reserve was to buy in corporate debt only. It was the politicians who changed all that, having the Fed temporarily buy in government debt and as everyone now knows, nothing is temporary in government.
All centralized governments fail, that’s just history whether we like it or not. Politicians have mastered the art of deflection!
“I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered but private central bank.”

Respect! You are a person after my own mind. 👍👍
Respect back to you friend. Sometimes disagreements are partial, constructive, enlightening, or common ground that was hidden was found.
Correct VoteAllin. It was politicians and It still IS politicians. If the Government only spent what it took in, Inflation would be nonexistant and the Fed would be operating its overnight window. The root cause of our problems is government spending. Our RINOs continue to spend even though we are the majority of the House. The honey of fake money is too strong. RINOs and Communists have to go.
It seems to me that the big money guys like JP Morgan used the “money crises” to motivate Americans to get on board with the idea of the Federal Reserve, that it would protect “the little guy” from the results of big money speculators in the stock market –
kind of like creating a “pandemic” to scare people into complying with having themselves injected with vaccines!
I used to think that way as well years ago until I started to truly understand why things happened the way they did. I came to the conclusion that throughout history, politicians have gamed the system for their own self-interest and history was a great tool for this discovery.
I discovered that any centralized government was the most destructive form of government as it started out in a simple and harmless manner but eventually became so big that it slowly stripped its citizens of their God given rights. Governments of the past, like now, debased their currencies, they would borrow more than needed, debase the metal content in their gold or silver while still placing its value the same just so they could buy it back to pay off their own debts, eventually a collapse would follow.
Gresham’s law holds true today, “Bad money drives out good.”
History is a wonderful world of wealth.
It is kind of like that. Take Congressional Hearings…great theater but that is all it is. You proles watch the shiny object while we pick your pocket. Same with the Federal Reserve….call it the Creature from Jekyll Island and hate it with a passion, all the while Congress keeps spending, spending, spending.
The Communists and RINOs are experts at flashing the shiny object to hide the root cause. Spending. Look Prole the Creature from Jekyll Island while they reach around and pick our pocket.
“Spending, spending, spending” is a symptom of a deeply flawed character.
Any sane fiscal control would positively effect the U.S. monetary system.
The players are all out divesting the country of its resources.
Rape and pillage.
Sundance, you should post the interview with Harmeet Dillon on Tucker Carlson’s TCN, she exposes Kamala from the beginning of her nefarious career to date.
I’d rather Harmeet talk about how she intends to prevent election fraud in AZ, which is her new “job”.
I know, wishes, wings frogs, some assembly required….
We already know Kamala lies about everything.
How effective was she in commiefornia? Not very. I was not encouraged when I saw she would be the head of legal for election integrity in AZ.
I can’t say I’m a big fan of Dillon but what I can say is unless I have documented facts which provides me the evidence, everything else to me is speculation, even someone else’s telling me what was said or done.
I learned long ago that by reading law through the SCOTUS taught me to think like a Judge. By reading the actual bills put forth through congress, to think like a politician and understand how corrupt they actually are.
I learned how to trade markets buy observing how the markets moved to understand when to buy and when to short instead of my old ways of subjective wants.
So, everything to me is speculative until I hear it or see it from the actual source.
Wasn’t Dhillon part of a failed attempt to deny Donald Trump electoral votes in the California primary? I don’t remember all of the details but I remember there was a big dust-up and lots of bad blood with her and Mike Davis of Article III project trying to pull a fast one. She was also the attorney who promised to “fight” for Kari Lake in the 2022 Governor’s race but then turned tail and left the state without filing a single case. I will watch the Tucker interview but my initial reaction is that I do NOT trust her and if Arizona is “close” again, I do not have confidence that she will rise to the occasion and fight!
Right. However, this is but one of many reasons the cabal could not allow ‘this’ to happen. Can’t have a resurgent middle class with a falling cost of living, growing families, and time to ‘worry’ about something other than paying the bills. Like the massive corruption destroying their lives.
So. Create a repo crisis. Inject trillions in liquidity. Then pull the rug and blame the economic disaster on a fake pandemic and run the table to destroy Trump and put the middle class destruction back on course.
They’re gonna pull the rug again Spring 2025 after PresTrump is sworn in so they can blame Trump for the economic collapse of over-leveraged stock markets and whatever property and debt bubbles they’ve blown the past couple years
Bet on it
Take your profits before Jan 20
We need lower prices, the cost of living is out of control. And then the government declares a 2.5% increase in social security for 2025. Also the job market is way overstated, the only increase is government jobs which we have to add to the list of things we have to pay for.
At the same time Medicare costs will increase 5.8%. Must be that new math.
Our SW PA county is proposing a 46% real estate tax increase then they want every property reassessed. we pay $7000 RE Taxes on a house taxed at 170000… next is the high density housing zoning changes..Residents are in an uproar but they voted all these far left politicians into office..we are in deep blue Allegheny County and most are voting for Harris..I feel like banging my head against the wall!!!
Yep, we remember it well.
The challenge over the next few weeks is to remind a country full of people with short memories and even shorter attention spans.
I see stupid people.
Me too.
“tariffs” are vitally important … but they depend on one thing: “that there is a genuinely-viable domestic industry” to protect!
And so: therein lies our true problem.
“Foreign capitalists” literally robbed us of the “domestic(!) industries” that – eighty years ago – powered our “arsenal of democracy.” They looked for “the very-cheapest source,” and our enemies cunningly remembered Sun Tzu.
The only possible “way out” is to resuscitate that once-formidable “Rust Belt.” But, by now, our patient foreign enemies are moving in for the kill. They know that the halls of American power are still filled with very old people who – above all else – covet “the American Dollar,” even though they no longer comprehend where such a thing comes from. And, likewise, an entire “administrative State” centered around Washington, DC.
A very-sincere-sounding plan was once fielded for breaking “Russia” into 47 helpless little fiefdoms, each one constructed around the extent of known natural resources. Why, they even gave each one of them a flag! Precisely the same thing could now be done to “the territory formerly known as the USA.” And, the victors – who “defeated their enemy without fighting him” – would very-briefly “reward” their traitors with “many Yuan” before shooting them in the head.
“History repeats itself, and much of it is done in the company of Fools.”
Your life ends when the bullet hits your unsuspecting brain. But the damage you have done lives on far longer.
It is definitely in “Communist China’s” best interests for a brand-new Communist Country to be established here. There are vast natural resources here to be extracted. Of course the enterprise will will eventually collapse, just as “the USSR” eventually did. But, before that happens, Europe will be the next one to fall. Because it foolishly depended on a once-mighty nation … that no longer exists.
To fully-understand this dynamic, think about leaders like Genghis Kahn. You have already freely allowed the soldiers in. In fact, you have flown them to their destinations in airplanes that you paid for. The Trojans could never have done better.
The very serious possibility, now, is that total war might suddenly break out everywhere at once(!) in “the American heartland,” and you will have no reasonable choice but to surrender.
Unless …
Fight to the bitter end. Our legacy.
Thank you Sundance for the receipts! This is one reason I LOVE our President Trump!
The main reason I love President Trump is a visceral connection. That man was sent on this mission by God Almighty.
Always MAGA 👊👊🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Can’t tell ya how much I LOVE that pic of PDJT and his team. Expressions are PRICELESS.
I love it too–especially since I love me some Lighthizer! Hope he is part of the next Trump administration!
There is no doubt the Trump economy was MAGA. Being an old manufacturing guy, most of the government numbers are obfuscations. And the government obfuscations led to corporate obfuscations.
Companies don’t compare month to month. They compare Same month this year to same month last year, same quarter this year to same quarter last year, this year to last year. That is apples to apples. Good companies don’t compare to analyst estimates; they compare to the same period last year.
That being said, Trump’s recent economic speeches about bringing ALL manufacturing back to the US is important. It needs to be done.
The August 2024 trade deficit was 70.4 Billion……. The August 2023 Trade deficit was 58.4 Billion. So much for Joe and Kam moving jobs to the US.
All these government adjustments, seasonal and otherwise, are to HIDE THE DECLINE.
Listen to the 1.22 min video embedded in this article entitled “This Is Why They Really Hate Trump”.
President Trump nails in a 1.22 minute video at the Detroit Economic club speech this week.

This from my wife this morning,
Traveling across the south of the country it can be seen that the people are either a part of the system -in poverty & on some type of support/assistance – or seek freedom to live as the US was designed and support Trump and his team. The contrast is drastic by view alone. It’s comforting but also worrisome because people are going to be angry like they’ve never seen before. It’s different to read it or watch it but to actually SEE it firsthand you can’t hide from the quiet, unheard beast looking for justice.
I’ve seen prices go up and down in my many decades of life and I distinctly remember prices falling in 2019. It was such a pleasant surprise and another positive bonus of having Trump as President. Too bad he had traitors like Pence running things during the scamdemic attack on the world that destroyed all his hard work for US.
My husband, a firefighter for 31 years, retired at the end of 2019, after we met with our financial advisor, who told us that we were in great shape and to go for it!
Since then, his pension (which is set by state law) has risen a total of 9% while our insurance, utilities, gas and food, have gone up by anywhere from 15-25%! We are, by nature, pretty frugal people, so we are doing okay, but this is definitely NOT the retirement that we had planned!
I see MSM stories telling me that prices are lower now than they were in 2019 and I wonder who they think is dumb enough to believe their lies – then I look around at my leftist family and friends and realize they are swallowing it hook, line, and sinker!
Inflation

1000% correct
President Trump can make us into the world’s largest exporter… of illegals starting in 2025.
And exporting the illegals would greatly lower America’s Green House Gases, pollution, while protecting our natural resources, flora & fauna. It’s the most environmental thing a President can do to protect the environment.
The “pros” missed this by a mile. Would they admit that? No.
They’re either looters or enablers of looting. So much for our economic expert class.
Normally I am cheering on the articles on here, but I can’t cheer for this one.
First, consumer prices are heavily redacted and altered. Then when they do show a decline, it would be hard to attribute a more efficient Chinese manufacturing process to Trump.
So the Chinese might have gotten better at producing more crap at a better price and export it for lower.
If anything that puts futher pressure on demostic production, that sees production cost INCREASES by more expensive energy and wages etc.
Then for the things imported such as washers, dryers and house hold goods, I dare you to graph appliance durability with the number of goods imported. You will find generally a washer would work better and wash for longer 20 years ago then one you purchase nowadays. Truth! Because of the “environmental rules” these things break down twice as fast and have to be replaced (and imported!) twise as fast.
Makes real sense.
I saw that when I was younger (20’s) when automobiles were breaking down more often than before. I attributed that to money lost by the manufacturers. I believed that if they built things to last, then profits would sour.
What you are saying is absolutely true, there’s more profit in selling cheap crap. I saw it visiting Mexico as a kid (1970’s) when everyone was buying Walmart prices and bragging about it here in the USA, I knew it then what we are experiencing now.
I remember Pat Buchanan visiting shoe factories in New Hampshire in his 96 campaign and the Heritage American workers, many of whom were white woman, were making great wages, great shoes, and were very worried about losing their jobs due to Council On Foreign Relations members Bush sr/Clinton/Gingrich’s “NAFTA-Free Trade” treason.
I think I’d rather see the homeless become our politicians and our politicians become the homeless as both might learn some good lessons. Some of us can relate to careless never ending money supply (me, younger) to those that have never experienced it. My wife and I raised our children not on the “Don’t do this or that’s” but on our own personal experiences. Shooting the proverbial “S**t” with your kids is life changing for them.
I believe, as do we all, that politicians only know how to take but the homeless only know how to survive.
This of course is just my personal opinion.

Retired Magistrate here: We go to a lot of estate sales where we find great older Made in America products; clothes, small appliances, tools, dishes, glassware, etc.
We have old appliances and when they do need repair, which is not often, I found a person that works on them and is reasonable. He can still get the parts. His advice is if you have an old appliance keep it because the new ones last anywhere from 3-5 years with various repairs in between.
My husband has a small machine shop in the basement and when smaller things break he can usually make a part to fix it. Looking at our basement some people might call us potential hoarders; however, you never know when you might need something and it is probably in our basement!
Democrats, like all communists and socialists, derive all of their wealth, power, and status from taxes creating perverse incentives and putting them at odds with regular, middle class citizens.
Excellent!
Thank you, Sundance.
I see Colkitto below has an absolutely great illustration of all this from Ben Garrison, including Barack Obama talking about Donald Trump’s “magic wand”-
Obama’s scolding of Trump back then (before the 2016 election) was a clear demonstration of Obama’s own sorry grasp of economics, that he thought a “magic wand” would be needed.
Under the leadership of the real President Trump and his economics A Team, the US was the world’s leader. The economy was so good that the Kenyan even tried to take credit for it. And now the white house imbecile and his unqualified administration frauds have destroyed everything that had been in place. This country went from being a Ferrari to a two wheeled tricycle.
The time period after the civil war was also deflationary…and very prosperous for Usa
Expansion west, railroad, telegraph, etc ….
I look at some of the problems we see in the Presidential thread, like the small communities in New England that actually want the money that comes with the “newcomers”, and I think how the Trump tariffs would have made it worthwhile for manufacturing jobs to stay in some of these places.
My last screed for this wonderful piece by Sundance. A little history lesson as I lived it.
Back in the 1960’s, US manufacturing was very poor. Unions were very strong and Management was terrible. The government changed the tariffs and began to allow more imports. There are two examples of what was happening.
The government went after Cotton Textile Mills for causing Brown Lung. The thousands of mills across the South began to close rather than invest in cleaning up their production facilities. We don’t want that low profit business???
At the same time, the Auto manufacturing was falling apart. Don’t buy a car on Monday and many other days. There were times you could not drive the new cars off the lot. They began to REdo the cars at the dealers?? Quality cars began to flood in from overseas. I remember thinking, both the workers and management deserve to shrink. Textile management just walked away from business. They both were terrible.
Fast forward 50 years and we have reached a point that with Trump that we will rebuild our manufacturing if for no other reason so that we can fight a war successfully. Or with Harris, we will become Venezuela.
Please pass this around, especially to men and businessmen:
link to a Bill Ackman post on X where he says he’s voting for Trump and lists 33!!! Reasons why….

It is a powerful and damning list of destructive and Terrible Things the Biden Harris Administration has done and is presented in a very factual tone.
I am just a small guy that knows no one important. The info in this comment is important. If anyone knows anyone in politics , please pass on.
The Green Energy bill of 2007 passed under George2 is the source of many of our economic woes. The pricing of wheat, soy and corn DOUBLED 24 hours after its’ passage. Food prices obviously went up. The ethanol requirement removed 15% of the petroleum in your tank and raised the prices on everything else as well because everything is delivered and you have to get to work.
Amusingly, the pollution in the air increased because it requires more high btu fuel to run your engine. That could help give the politicos cover to drop the requirements. Prices of food and fuel down by 40% and pollution lower!!!
Check out my stats so that you believe me. CBOT (Chicago board of trade) website history October 2007.
Wins across the board.
Thank you.
I seem to remember food prices increasing when Obama started his nonsense. Don’t recall that having anything to do with GWB.
My fear is he’ll never see another day in the WH. If the deep state doesn’t kill him, they will tie everything up in the legal system. And we all know the SCOTUS isn’t worth the chair they sit on for photo shoots!
Higher wages + Lower consumer prices = Rapidly rising standard of living.
It’s THE ECONOMY STUPID!!! 2024!!
CUT THE CORD
The mainstream media is saying the same thing as last time, leading to my question. Will the higher tariffs placed on China create more inflation for the United States or will our economy react like it did last time in 2018-2019?
