Hurricane Milton’s unpredicted shift/wobble southward closer to Yucatan Peninsula now puts Milton on a more traditional East-NorthEast track as it heads toward the Southwest Florida Coast. [Latest NHC Update Here].
A large evacuation program is underway as people leave the west coastal Florida areas. However, the exact path of Milton is still unknown. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis holds a press conference to discuss, among other things, the urgent distribution of fuel to assist in keeping fuel flowing to the gas stations on the evacuation routes.
Additionally, debris removal from the areas impacted by Hurricane Helene will continue through today on a 24 hour operation; which will continue until conditions deteriorate and it is no longer safe. A massive assembly of state resources for search, rescue and recovery operations continue being staged. Due to the needs in Eastern Tennessee and Western NC, an additional 36,000 linemen and power recovery operations are flowing toward Florida from far west.

As many of you are aware, my homebase is directly in the path. I will provide updates as soon as possible and share plans for communication and ongoing CTH site operation (tonight). We will pre-schedule the daily open threads so that discussion of all important topics can continue uninterrupted.

Despite the chaos around us in the deep south, for those outside the impact region, we need to keep pushing information for voter registrations (and ballot challenges) ahead of election deadlines and stay focused on the longer-term mission of MAGA 2024. I stayed in my house during a Cat 1 hit from Hurricane Wilma in 2005. The wind ripped off the entire large screen enclosure over the pool area and dumped it into the lake. It completely uprooted a large orange tree and laid it down over the front door, roots on the roof and head on the ground — then, after the eye went over and the winds were in the opposite direction, picked the tree up again and laid it back down on the roof completely in the opposite direction. Every smaller tree and bush except for palms (!) simply disappeared. The pool itself became stacked with large tree limbs from top to bottom. And then there was 4.5 weeks of no electricity.
Just a little Cat 1.
I was 30 miles away during Hurricane Andrew in 1992 — surprised that even those edge winds were remarkably loud, like a train, and inside a boarded-up building, accompanied a phenomenal pound pound pounding bang bang banging of “things” constantly smashing against the walls and metal hurricane shutters.

I have hunkered down from TS thru Cat 3s. That included a home about 20 feet from the Elizabeth River in VA Beach area. Some damage but in the end everything in tact. Tension level escalated appreciably as the eye wall (or remnants) approached and passed through.
Cat 4 or 5? Pull chocks and get the H outta Dodge! Obviously, same holds for folks in known flood zones or areas with surge potential.

I keep large quantities of organic chicken broth on hand. Not because I can’t make it from scratch, myself, but in the winter time it’s great to simply grab a crockpot, throw in one or two pieces of raw chicken, a can of mixed veggies, half a can of corn, poultry seasoning and two garlic cloves, not cut up, just whole. .. Then cover with one to one and half containers of 32 oz. Organic chicken broth. It my area it’s least expensive at Trader Joe’s
Then the “work” comes.
Plug in crock pot.
Turn dial to low.
Don’t open up for 6 hours.
Then open & stir the pot.
Return the lid and wait to eat until you are very hungry
I made a big batch of my slow cook crockpot chili for football weekend. I starting throwing ingredients in Sunday AM, and by evening, YUM! Purr-fect with my favorite Frito scoops.
But yes, chicken soup is also a breeze. It is that easy of just throwing in the veggies, brown the meat in advance, shred it and throw it in. Pasta gets thrown in way towards the end, and timing is dependent on the type.
I like egg noodles for my chicken soup. If it is of the frozen/fresh style variety with flour and dough, it will take longer to absorb the juice necessary to plump it up and fully cook it. Allow extra time. All other egg pasta acts more like a normal pasta and whatever the package calls for should be OK.
You can can it, freeze it, or both.
No more donuts at dunkin and no fried chicken at kfc. I’m sure some costly marketing studies determined these decisions. If libbys weren’t on the label it would just say soup I suppose.
I half expect that if Kamala wins, those same marketing experts will “re-brand” the United States of America into just USA ™. No punctuation. The letters will no longer stand for anything. Just a stylized three letter logo: USA ™.
They already changed the first word from “These” to “The.”

Faith in God should not presume total avoidance of hard things. Speaking or thinking as though it does presents an unscriptural picture. Along with Job, I say that God is good and He is my protector even when things go terribly bad.

Just talked with a good friend. She is moving from Largo to Pinelass Park. She lives in a mobile home and going to a proper house with hurricane shutters. She said there is no gas to be found. She is moving as much of her valuables as she can and her 3 cats.
Please pray. She isn’t doing well (crying and panic attacks). I am scared for her as well.

I have family in a Tampa suburb and they are not technically in an evacuation zone and they aren’t leaving. It boggles the mind. And DeSantis keeps repeating to people that they don’t need to leave the state, just get out of the evacuation zones. I realize there is a lot of “panic control” going on. But, I’d be outta there so fast. I would have left Sunday before the roads got congested. Generations of my family were born and raised in Florida. There was the “always get out of Dodge in advance” group, and the “staying” group. I have not been able to convince family to leave. I am praying. Lord, please calm the winds in that hurricane. You are Mighty Lord and we beg of you to control the winds and protect your people. Amen.

Native Floridians are a different breed. For many of them, who are ph6sically able, mentally able, and prepped, staying may well be the best choice. Newbies should really leave, but they will be faced with a shock when they can return.
I have a trip planned for early Nov, and called my rental agency in Marco this morning just to see if I could shift plans to early Dec if things looked too bad. Was actually surprised to reach an actual person, who was quite calm, helpful, and cheerful.
She assured me we would be able to work out a plan next week once we know what we’re dealing with.
They got this. But prayers help!
Born Free, my young adult grandson lives east of Tampa, 50 miles inland.
Since he began a new job several weeks ago and was required to work till 1:00 today, he’s hunkering down.
This will be his second hurricane there – the first was Ian two years ago.

Were planning to leave but their Brand New motor home decided not to cooperate.
By the time this was discovered it was too late to leave the highways being a parking lot and the gas stations on the highways are empty anyway.
They are in a newly built house on the raised lot so they think they will be OK.

The American Storm
St. Augustine vacation cut short as we left Monday morning. Condo was making announcement about leaving and the possibility of closing the bridges. We decided to just go ahead and not risk being stuck on interstate for hours.
Traffic on 75 was great until Atlanta. It’s always Atlanta! I’m sure it’s much worse now. The one thing I did notice was that after making it through ATL, the bumper to bumper continued north for a while, which was unusual for 8:00 pm. Noticed a lot of Florida tags.
I saw where the Hampton Speedway was planning to open and take evacuees from Florida. Just a heads up if anyone is headed that way.

I just this minute finished reading the Discussion and Key Messages about “Milton” at NHC. My takeaway is that Forecaster Berg, the person who wrote that stuff, is more concerned with making sure people are properly frightened and well-sensitized to “obeying official orders” than imparting useful, practical information. A non-indoctrinated 10-grader could write more clearly than “Forecaster Berg.” Every single one of FEDGOV’s bureaucratic employees and contractors are in on the last hurrah of their corrupt unionized gravy train. I for one will be glad when all of them are gone, gone, gone.
