This is a little bit unusual, and I don’t generally recommend going to a bizarro leftist narrative article for full review; however, in this case it is worth it.
Politico has written an article about FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, saying disinformation about the federal government response to Hurricane Helene, “is absolutely the worst I have ever seen,” Criswell told reporters on a Tuesday morning call. “It’s creating distrust in the federal government, but also the state government, and we have so many first responders that have been working to go out and help these communities,” she added. {link}
However, if you go read the article fraught with pearl-clutching and protestation, you might curiously discover there is not a single citation for any claimed “disinformation.” {SEE HERE} It is very odd to see FEMA and by extension Politico in their defense, claiming that massive disinformation is running rampant, and yet they do not cite a single example of the disinformation they claim to exist. Seriously, no joke – GO LOOK.
If you are an intellectually honest observer of government, you are left with the question: where is this disinformation you speak of?
Most of the shared examples of FEMA’s failures have been with full citation, presented with factual information – raw source attribution and audio/visuals of FEMA officials on the ground in Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina to bolster the claims. In short, all the claims against FEMA are specifically cited; however, all of the deflective justifications and denials are not.
Perhaps this is simply the state of current federal government. Whereby, thousands of individual citizens are giving real-time examples of what FEMA is doing and not doing, while FEMA (from DC) claims all of the citations and examples are “disinformation.”
It is all very Orwellian, and reminds me of something:

Put another way, the people on the ground are telling the truth about the current state of affairs. The interests of FEMA are antithetical to the truth, so they label the truth “disinformation.” And that’s that.
I’ve started seeing references to “elite panic” and this seems to be a perfect description of what’s going on with Fed gov’t and FEMA. You can google it or go to Wikipedia if you have the stomach for that cesspool. Iwonder if the term is trending on google?. Apparently the term was coined in 2008 by sociologists at Rutgers.

Please don’t take what I am about to say as support for FEMA in any way. I have gone through too many Disaster Assessments with them and dealt with their ignorance and incompetence to much to ever support anyone who works for them
Part of the problem is many people misunderstand what FEMA is, and what they are not. This is also in part due to media not knowing what they are talking about.
FEMA is not, and has never been or ever intended to be a Response Agency. They are a Bureaucracy that functions in the planning for, recovery from, and mitigation of disasters. They do not respond and have no clue at all how to. And the key part of all that is they are a Bureaucracy first and foremost. Their role during a disaster is to ensure the continuity of government. After the threat is over they will send in people to hold meetings and go through damage assessment and maybe reimburse the State County, City, or whatever the case may be, and Departments that did take part in the Response efforts. The Emergency Response phase starts at the local level, then goes up to County, and then to the State when more resources are needed than the Local Agencies have available. After it gets beyond the capability of the State they can request federal resources through FEMA, and those paper pushers will pass that request around until they find the Agency which can provide that asset.
The control of that Disaster Response stays with your local agency, usually the County unless they request the State to take over completely.
And it is very easy to overwhelm Local First Responders, and not just Volunteers, it happens to well tagged and funded Full time Agencies as well. There are some incidents that occur that ate beyond what you can train for and prepare for.

After serving as a First Responder Ice Company (100 ton daily ice mtg capacity) for over 55 years ( the majority of them prior to FEMA’s existence) by manufacturing and delivering 18 wheeler truck loads of ice, sold at just above our cost to the Red Cross, Catholic Charities, the Southern Baptists and other relief orgs (who have given us many certificates of awards and commendations for our efforts),… that set up their relief stations just after too many hurricanes and floods to count,… my grandfather and father’s company, located on the MS Gulf Coast, was told by FEMA just after Katrina, 19 years ago now, that FEMA “did not need nor want our ice for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.”
FEMA said they had their own Approved Vendors that had prepositioned the FEMA designated relief ice in Tennessee, over 400 miles north of NOLA and the MS Gulf Coast, both of which were devastated beyond belief.
As our host, Sundance knows,…Ice is needed immediately after a devastating storm to keep perishable food from spoiling quickly and also to provide potable water until civilization returns to the area.
Why wait to transport many tons of ice from Tennessee when it was already stored up and waiting before Katrina and available at our plant in the heart of the wasteland?

I have to admit, there came a point, yesterday evening actually, where I had seen and heard so much crazy, (see above article for example), that I had to come to the conclusion that the Dems et al., are presently divided into two groups, those who are somehow personally benefitting from the crazy, with abject disregard for their fellow humans and more, and those who not intelligent enough to see blatant crazy. It does not take much intelligence to see blatant crazy. It’s not like they are trying to hide it at this point, it is now incessantly in our faces (in your face crazy if you will). I am currently living in abject fear of what is to come with this election. If Trump wins, how far are the crazies willing to go? They have already gone sooo far. If he loses, our country is forever lost, unless there is an all out civil war, whatever that may look like. Neither is pretty. So rather than read about any more crazy, I scrolled down and saw Suspicious Cat. Suspicious Cat ALWAYS makes me smile, and some time between tonight and tomorrow I will go on to the CTH Open Thread, listen to some really good music, see some really beautiful pictures, and experience really good people interacting with one another, and for a brief moment in time, all will be well.

I can only recall one time when the federal response to a hurricane was praised: Barack Obama’a response to Hurricane Sandy in 2012, a few weeks before the election.
