There’s an increasing amount of hateful antisemitism creeping into the comments here in The Treehouse. Please pray that hearts would be changed and that the hate would be turned to love. The hate sickens me but we can take comfort in the fact that God can and will change hearts.
We should hold no hate for anyone regardless of their nation of origin… and the taxes of our wages should not be fomenting unrest and misery domestically, but not in foreign lands either.
John 8:5-9 (ESV), the story of the adulteress. What was Jesus writing?
A theory: The first thing Jesus wrote was “The penalty for adultory….” The second thing Jesus wrote was “…is death by stoning and it applies to the men who have committed this sin, too.”
Another theory is that Jesus started writing down all their sins. I guess we are not supposed to know, at least here and now. But what we do know is that the finger of God touched the ground.
I think the theory you mention fits the text even better.
He was distracting them by stooping and looking down while writing (doesn’t matter what) and not looking at them. He knew they were hung up on the Law; let them persist in asking Him what to do – to see if He would say to do something other than what the Law proscribed.
After He stood up He replied saying to them “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Then he immediately stooped & looked down again while writing (doesn’t matter what) on the ground to cause them to look among themselves for anyone who would claim to be without sin.
Whether He wrote the Law on the ground or the commandment “you shall not kill”, He obviously made them realize none of them was without sin, despite their self-righteousness and pompous arrogance.
Since the Bible does not tell us what Jesus wrote, IMHO it is unproductive to spend time trying to imagine words that the Lord did not breathe to the Bible’s authors. God intended the scripture to not include that information. Christ achieved His objective for the woman, so that’s all there is.
He was not writing in the dirt, but engraving upon stone. Message; I AM the God who wrote the Commandments.

Heavenly Father, thank You for bringing me through this day and Lord, forgive me for the times when I have wandered outside Your best will for me, instead of trusting You implicitly.
Thank You, that You are such a gracious Shepherd to me and that You come and rescue me even when I lose my way and stray from the path that You have laid out for me.
As I look back over today, I know Lord that there were things that I should have said and done differently, and times when I reacted in a manner that was not honouring Your holy name. Forgive me I pray, but thank You, Father, that You always faithfully prepared to gently bring me back to Yourself.
Give me a good night’s sleep I pray, knowing that there is no condemnation because I am in Christ, and may I wake up in the morning refreshed and ready to do Your will. In Jesus’ name I pray,

I want to note that the other day when everyone was having issues with a slow CTH website. My computer only had an issue loading the post about the “Rat Jack Smith”, all other articles/posts loaded normally, as did the other websites. Well today I noticed something interesting on my Social media page, a new follow from my account that stuck out like a sore thumb. (Because I would never in a lifetime follow her!!) Her bio is a “they them theirs” queer woman , Kamala Supporter and Activist…. also AA DEI in the Air Force, bio also says she creates inclusive spaces. So, Apparently someone hacked into my computer which was logged into my social media account and this woman had my account follow her at that moment. Sounds like a play right out of the ALinsky Marxist Communist Spybook.
I also want to note that in my area, most likely a US Government actor hacked into our polling books and stole Driver’s license info and polling, voter info…. a few months back, but only now are the local officials sending out letter notifying people. Another play out of the Democrat Marxist playbook. I’m sure that’s a completely innocent event, especially in the election season.
