I can give you a few reasons why it appeals to you, Betsy, if you permit, and it appeals to me also, I love it too.
There re certain technical reasons why some paintings ‘work’ and some do not ‘work’ ie appeal to the viewer .However its all very personal. Like music.
I will give you a few reasons and techniques artists use to make their painting more interesting. One of the main things I love in an art work of any genre is ‘mystery.’ There is a aspect of mystery in the subject of this painting yet it is non-threatening.
Not just ‘the subject’, the cat, and what he is looking at or waiting for, that is mysterious, but the way the background buildings are painted with dark colors. What is there in between those buildings? is there danger there? it is deliberately indistinct.
The curve of the foreground, the lit area of road, seems inviting, even light- hearted, contrasting with the gloom. Contrast in colours works well in this painting. The cheerful almost playful depiction of the orange -lit windows adds to the contrasts..
We are slightly unnerved by the change of viewpoint for the viewer as we seem we look down to the grey/blue partially shadowed road, which then changes to an upward direction. Playful aspect.
Also use of colours. Blue and orange are complementary colours . On the colour wheel they are opposites. Careful use of complementary colours always works in paintings. One colour, Blue or orange, must dominate to be successful..
The creamy yellow is a softer form of the orange areas so they work well together as a warm contrast to the colder blues and greys. In a painting ‘cold’ colours recede into the background
whereas ‘warm’ colours appear to come forward towards the viewer, giving n illusion of three dimension objects and distance, to a flat 2 dimensional surface.
The soft blended colour on the foreground give a resting place to the eyes. There is contrast between curving soft lines and harsher strong geometric shapes. . We pause before’ entering’ the scene visually. The shadow of the cat ‘ties’ the subject to the edge of the painting, so we enter the painting by that route.
Our eye is led up the curving line on the right, up through the distant dimly lit windows, to the stark contrast of the black tower against the pale moon.
One last little ‘unnerving’ detail I like is the change of direction of the shadows of the two trees on the left and the shadow of the cat, and The thin delicate branches of the tree are like fragile spider’s webs and act as contrasts to the safe solidity of the foreground building.
So maybe the artist wants you to be ‘slightly’ disturbed by the painting. 🙂

This little chap looks exactly like one half of my Welsh duo who adopted us when our farmer neighbour’s daughter came by to ask if the moggie brothers who accompanied her for the lonnnng walk from her house were ours.
Technically speaking, they weren’t, but they didn’t wait to hear my answer…and took it upon themselves to assume that they were….marched right in and that was that…
We named them Bubble and Squeak, after the iconic British dish of potatoes and cabbage.
We had just installed a new floor in our tiny tiny bathroom and repainted. Chris took a picture and when we looked at it, there (unseen by him when he took it) was Squeak…in the exact position as above. He was the sweetest boy. This picture makes me cry because not long after he was struck by a car driven too fast in the narrow lane which ran in front of our house. When I remember Squeak, this is the exact visual of him which remains in my heart….sigh…

Mornin’ dear Bet. 🙂 I’d planned a day-trip to Austin so my alarm went off extra early. Little ‘Tink, my loyal little black kitty, was sleeping comfortably on my shoulder and wasn’t at all happy at being awakened so early. Although I carefully moved her, she immediately tried to climb back onto my shoulder. It took a couple of tries but she finally got the hint . . . I know I’m being Anthropomorphic but she’s so attentive that it certainly seems like she’s actually looking after me. I shure hope so.

When my wasband (shout out to Patience!) left me, my kitty, Tiger, sat in my lap for 24 hours – no food, water, or trip to the litter box. Tiger was born to a stray we had taken in, Madge.
We had found homes for her 4 kittens that were born days after she showed up, including Tiger. But, for whatever reason, 2 separate adopters rejected him and brought him back to us.
So…….I told him, You’re staying.
And he stayed for 18 years!
And gave back when he was called upon. ❤️

I use a Sawyer filter when backpacking and when going on long hikes. I keep one in each one of my packs. It is not a bad idea to keep one or two in your emergency kit.
Here is their product in extreme use.

Is this better or different than say, Lifestraw?
Lifestraw does have high volume filters, I’ve never used them though and so for function, I can’t say if they are better. I have used their personal water filters (straw) and I do have a few of them. I prefer to filter my water into a container than to draw it thru a straw.
Sawyer makes one called the Sawyer Squeeze and it will screw onto a Smart Water water bottle. It makes a nice combination. After you drink your smart water you can then use the empty bottle as a dirty water container. Fill the empty Smart Water bottle from a creek, screw the Sawyer Squeeze onto it and then drink the filtered water, or squeeze it into a clean container.
I have my eye on a water filter called the Grayl. It will probably be my next one.

Everyone wants to be in show biz. Or once did.
I come here after reading the ongoing heartbreak in TN/NC/FLA thread and the surrounds- the thread chronicling the efforts there has made my Caturday so far more than a little sad.
I pray for God’s grace and for the redemption of the demons that both caused and perpetuate the suffering in those affected areas. As we all know, people have lost lives and everything they once “owned” and those still alive? Through God’s grace alone.
For as of now, the perpetrators all on a direct course with a reckoning, the depths of which, they cannot possibly understand.
( note to self. View cat pictures and words of inspiration and calm – before delving deeply into the chronicled demon made disaster, so early in the day ).

In case anyone recalls me mentioning awhile back that we were gonna try to go to the Butler rally, turns out we’re not. My wife has MS and has some days where she’s not getting around so well, and we’re in the midst of some of those now. A few days ago she told me we should still try, but seeing as how it’s extremely unlikely we’d get up close, and how they’re recommending people get there VERY early, and we can’t even bring foldup chairs with us or anything, I just didn’t think we should risk maybe having to stand for hours and walk for who knows how far. Add that to the fact we’d be driving over a thousand miles round trip, and I figure we’re better off not trying. So anyway, yeah, just letting you know we’ll just be enjoying the rally right her with the rest of you guys. 🙂

We’ve been to 4 Trump rallies, 2015, 2016, and 2020. Sadly, with health issues, we can no longer attend either, but……I am so grateful we had those experiences. You meet the happiest, friendliest, most enthusiastic, well informed people. And…..talk about “diversity!”
I learned of the Treehouse in 2016 from the folks who were sitting behind us, and immediately became a lurker. So so glad we met such kindred spirits.

If you noticed my YouTube channels are all blocked. I had three channels. The last one with the bombings of Hezbollah was too much for the Progressive crew of YouTube.

As to the War there is not much new so it’s will be a short one. I will also follow with some general knowledge that will make you more aware of Israel’s multi-level missile defense systems.

41,638 killed in Gaza. 96,460 injured in Gaza. (Figures according to Gaza Health Ministry).
IDF estimates 17,000 terrorists killed.
1,677 Israelis Killed. 715 Israeli soldiers killed. This includes 10/7. Otherwise there are about 360 IDF soldiers killed in Gaza and no or almost no civilians.
Most of the high command of Hamas was killed. Head of Military Wing, His deputy, Commander of North Gaza Brigade, Commander of Kahn Yunis Brigade, Commander of Central Gaza Brigade, Head of Political Affairs and his deputy.
Overall IDF killed 6 Brigade Commanders, 24 Battalion Commanders and 150 Platoon Commanders.
255 kidnapped. 101 hostages in Gaza including the dead bodies held. 154 released or rescued.
West Bank – about 730 Palestinians killed (mainly terrorists in confrontations)
About 5,250 detained. 40 Israelis murdered.

IDF maneuver reporting on Killing some 250 Hezbollah since they entered.
-IDF reporting from the maneuver that unlike Hamas who deserted positions and mainly was shooting from a distance. In Lebanon in the forest few days our forces had some 6 face to face encounters. We lost 9 soldiers so far. 6 in one ambush incident. 2 in another incident and one a couple of days ago in a face to face collision. Overall all collisions end with the IDF on the upper hand because they can direct artillery, drones and jet fighters when needed.
-Tens of rockets into Israel about 60 plus per day. No injuries (thanks god) in the past few days. Iron Dome is doing an amazing job. It went through some upgrades by the way.
Two drones from Iraq, once intercepted and one hit an IDF base in the Golan Heights. Two Golani (Infantry) soldiers killed and some 6 injuries bad and medium and some more lightly injured. Expect an IDF strike in Iraq soon. IDF is hitting in Beirut and South Lebanon.
Today was also an assasination in North Lebanon. Oddly enough it was a Hamas Senior member.
-Report that Russia gave Iran the SAM 4 anti aircraft batteries. This is an important data as it can make attacks in Iran more difficult. I think the Air Force can overcome it. But they may have to attack it first. For decades Bibi pressured Putin not to give it to Iran. It was a main reason why Israel didn’t help Ukraine with Iron Dome or any advanced weapon systems.
Israel can give Ukraine tie breaking weapons if we want. we have some insane anti tank missiles etc… There are ways to lock on those missiles but it will make things harder.
-A report on one of my Telegram channels that Russia just informed Iran on F35s over the Persian Sea. This may be the hottest info today or fake. I am posting it anyways.
-American analysts from the Center for Naval Analysis (CNA) have identified 32 direct hits on Israel’s Nevatim Air Base in the Negev.
Of those 32 hits:
3 hit hangars in the northern part of the air base.
1 hit an administrative building in the south of the air base.
1 hit a maintenance hangar in the south of the air base.
1 hit an administrative/technical building in the east of the air base.
26 missiles hit the whole place.
The damage is generally minor, and there are no signs of F-35 losses.
Note: I also know of a couple of hits on another Air Base (Tel Nof). Nothing major. Also two missiles close to Mossad’s headquarters around Tel Aviv. Not a direct hit.
-Arab channels admit that Nasrallah’s successor, Hashem Safieddine, has been eliminated.
Also reports that the replacer of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Commander over the Lebanon area was killed in the same place. His predecessor was also killed previously.
They are quiet about this attack. Apparently it was a meeting of the top who were about to elect the successor of Hezbollah.
-Reports of Hezbollah using ambulances to transform terrorists and weapons and munitions. One was attacked by the IDF and they are using it on the media against us. The IDF warranted them to not use this as it will be targeted. This was also the case in Gaza. Shifa Hospital had ambulances that are allocated to Hamas aside for their own. This is how terrorists operate.
-Trump says that Israel should attack the nuclear sites and criticizes Biden for being against it.
-Israel is working on what to do in retaliation against Iran. High level Iran revolutionary Guard people are spreading wild threats. Like taking out all of Israel’s power grids etc….
We shall see where this goes. There is too much speculations. Obviously if the nuclear sites are a possibility we will do it. But it is a technical question. Some of it is hundreds of feet inside a mountain.

Good morning all. It sure looks like Florida is going to get hit again. The track is not settled but at this time it appears landfall will occur somewhere between Just north of Tampa to Just south of Port Charlotte. IOW about a 100 mile range. To hit the middle of next week.

This is beginning to look a lot like Helene missed the southern part of Florida, so let’s finish it off…I have resisted the thought that this is being controlled by Washington, D.C., but many are talking about little blue balls in the aftermath of Helene. I would love to hear from some of you. Either way, we cannot give up the fight to take back our country!

I went to the Big Sur Folk Festival held at the “Esalen Institute” ( CIA connected ) for that weekend summer 68 and heard their 25 minute version of “Time Has Come Today” – and as an 11 year highly musically adept 11 year old I thought “it’s time for that song to end today” lol

I can now follow links in the blog and return without losing my place. I don’t know if it was because I updated my Mini to Mac OS Sequoia 15.0.1, or if the blog settings changed, but I am delighted by the increase in readability. Prior to today, going back from following a link led to the top of the page only.
It ain’t easy! I have simply learned to remember the Top and Bottom post last seen on any given page. It’s chunky alright. But SD has provided a service here beyond description. The least I figure I can do is “scroll” a LOT 🙂
I simply use the Chrome “find in page” function to immediately locate my last post, or to find any specific user I wish to read or to respond to.
In Android phone, click on the three dots at the upper right hand side, and in that menu, click on FIND IN PAGE
Unless I forget, I only follow links in comments by opening the link in a new tab or new window. When I’m done with that I simply close the extra window or tab. I use a 2015 MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey 12.7.6. This method has worked fine for me for years.
Recently Speaker Johnson caved in and brought a bill up for vote funding the government which also didn’t include voter integrity.
What I want to know is how FEMA has no funds for Hurricane relief when this funding bill should have gone into effect the first of October.
Four days and FEMA has spent every penny allocated for three months?
They clearly should be audited if Johnson and the Republican controlled House has any backbone.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Of what are you fearful – unsure today?
