On the upside, now the political continuum has swung, and the risk variable has shifted. As a consequence, aid will start pouring into Western North Carolina as the politicos attempt to create the optics of magnanimous competency.
They are suddenly super worried about Asheville. Can’t have the leftists in the deep blue, getting full awake to the incompetence of leftism. However, help will also start to flow further west too. That’s cool. At least, people are finally going to get help.
Something really tragic needs to be noted … the roads in the impacted areas have been washed out and floods prevail .. a given.
But .. this disaster occurred within the flight range of the largest concentration of 100’s of US Army Helicopters and Air Mobile Logistical and Support assets … THE 18th Airborne Corps stationed at Ft Campbell, KY (the 101st Division and 18th Corps assets) and Ft Bragg, NC (82nd Division and bulk of the 18th Corps support assets).
Before the disaster even struck … task forces could already have been formed using 18th Corps assets, the NC Guard and TENN Guard.
I applaud the TENN and FLA Gov’s for their efforts …. and what ever NC assets that have acted … but … the NC State and Federal Governments have purposely failed to create a disaster to be “heroically” solved.
Been saying the same thing- Trump would have been all over that. Generators, fuel, medics and evac, supplies, communications and any needed security.

Yes they do – and there are a fair number of people spread out across the ridge line with generators. They aren’t meant for individuals – they are meant for communities. Today they got to a number of those communities so they could make contact with family.
Realize that the metro areas have maximum impact but I have literally seen posts from family members begging for information on their loved ones in rural areas that likely can’t get to Asheville. I guess this is just one more reason for the Harris/Biden crew to herd everyone into their 15 minute cities and leave the rural free space to the elites.
They are being reached slowly but surely as ways are found to reach them. There is a long list of communities effected – Asheville was just one of the first reached.

Just evaccaed out of area North of Asheville. Up in Va now. Glad to have some creature comforts and my family and friends are all ok. Here’s what I saw happening:
We have had zero communication for 48 hours. We includes citizens, fire dept, 911, rescue, police, troopers, emts,etc. Zero cell phone or land lines. Apparently viper is the only communication and only one channel was available. I’m not sure what has led to this issue but it the single biggest failure so far. This was confirmed at local fire dept. Finally had intermittent cell service around 11am today
Power is slowly coming on. Local Duke and French Broad co op guys were crushing it. They were heroes. Easy areas are coming online. Hard hit areas where trees or floods took out infrastructure are going to take some time. Duke guys I saw today were first organized crew helping
Water is going to be the huge issue. If you have a well and power you’ll be ok; if you are on municipal services it’s going to be a long haul. So many water infrastructure systems wiped out. It’s great to have electricity, it’s impossible to thrive without clean water. This is a slow rolling disaster getting ready to rear its ugly head and unfortunately the mainstream media won’t cover it because the footage won’t be sensational.
Food wise some stocked up a whole lot of people didn’t. Same with gas. Here’s where it is going to start getting crazy. There’s only one sufficient highway into the Asheville area, I 26w. I didn’t see much rolling into town as we drove out. Unless the Calvary is massing somewhere, there is nowhere near the sufficient resources coming into that area. I hope I’m wrong but it’s setting up a situation where people are going to move into desperation soon.
Glad to reply to any other questions. Local am radio really helped. After about 36 hours they were the lifeline for many of us. My family and I are amateur preppers. We would have done fine with our resources if we had stayed. I was amazed at how many were WAY under prepared. Really sad. Hope to head back in a few days. I’ll post an update if a service is available.

It is extremely strange that cell communications did not come back when the power came back on. What is the explanation?
Seems like only folks with Verizon had/ have any communications at all. (Aside from anyone who had Starlink).
T Mobile, Spectrum, AT &T – nothing. Still nothing.
The massive towers did not fall.
So why are communicatios out when the power has been back for days or hours?

It is also true people were way under prepared. Runs for the gas stations, runs for bottled water . . . No alerts, no warnings, no civil defense type activity or gatherings in advance.
Communities were washed away, including a lot of low income housing. Where do those people go now?
I can’t imagine Asheville, with limited routes in and out, a significant underclass, and a fairly dense population, but with no municipal water, five days from now.

I don’t know the infrastructure involved in a tower and why they quit working. I assume they have power which is probably a feed from the utility but I dont know if there is generator back up. It was a staunch difference between the liberal local NPR reporting station and the local am conservative station. The libs were your typical soy boy and vocal fry chick complaining and asking the community to pull together.
The Am 570 conservative guys were actively taking calls of people looking for loved ones, coordinating volunteers looking to help, and reporting where people in need of resources could find them. The DJ was in tears sometimes as he took on the weight of this event and did his best to report to those listening. It was a beautiful thing and they should be commended.
You would think that blue Asheville would get aid quickly.

Glad you have a safe place to be. I am guessing the biggest problem is that no one really believed a hurricane would go that far inland, even though the map showed that area was right in the path. We had Camille, some say she had 200 mph winds. All I know is we didn’t think it would come our way, and when we realized it was coming it wouldn’t be as bad as it was. We were wrong, and back then there was no internet to keep minute by minute updates.
The illegals have all the housing. I keep thinking about winter fast approaching, especially in the mountains. More rain coming this week. Voting will be a mess. The whole thing is challenging, seven states have been affected by this storm.

The local am stn had gone to sleep when our disaster struck.
People in the hills, who were told to evac, so the fire dept could do their thing, except it ended up they couldn’t, had come down from the hills in their cars thinking it wouldn’t be that long, and literally parked in the parking lots of public parks, not being told where else to go.
They sat there w no info from authorities until they could see fire enveloping the hills above, and still nothing.
They ended up relying on an am radio announcer one town over who happened to hear about it before it was anything, and realized it was him alone providing info as the night wore on ie don’t plan on going back to your homes tonight and maybe ever.
Because of him, hotels were booked before they sold out and apartments rented before they became scarce.
Even when the local govt scrambled together an evac station, it was that radio announcer who was telling people where to go.
I guess I wasn’t crazy building a copper water distillation unit..
All areas south of Asheville along I-26 have No power, limited cell service has returned to some areas or municipal water. The only crews are sawing up trees off of the streets. No Duke Power crews have been seen. A few Canadian crews with saws are present but they are having a hard time getting gas for the saws. They have to wait like the rest of us to get gas (for generators) at the few stations with Generator power and fuel deliveries. Land line phones are destroyed with poles and wires down.
No wonder FEMA has been more worthless than not – look at their number #1 priority…

This is absolute BS. In the state itself is the USMC Little River facility – MV-22s and CH-53E’s that could be doing rescue and heavy lift operations to get supplies in and people out, manned by men that know how to get it done.
-Also Camp Lejeune at Jacksonville – 2nd Marine Logistics Group, among other units, and a state away in Virginia, Little Creek hosts Naval Construction Force 1st Division and Amphibious Construction Battalion Two, amongst others.
They might be needed in Ukraine so this administration probably won’t deploy them to help American citizens–even in Democrat Asheville!

Just spoke to a US Military insider about the efforts for Hurricane Helene. Here’s what I was told:
The 82nd Airborne Division is known as America’s “Global” Response Force. They have the ability to have thousands of paratroopers anywhere in the world in 18 hours. They provide combat capability, but also helicopter airlift, stand up hospitals, and other support.
They responded to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
The 82nd responded overnight to fly thousands of Afghans out of the country during the withdrawal.
Less than 1/3 of the entire division is on the “global” alert status. Meaning there are thousands of members potentially available to render aid with a simple command.
So the question is why even a fraction of the 82nd can’t be used to support relief efforts in the same state in which they are stationed (North Carolina)? For whatever reason, they are unavailable for this effort.
As of now, they haven’t been alerted for hurricane support.
They can be on the ground and in the sky within hours, organizing airlifts, building hospitals, bringing aid.
But they aren’t.
Biden-Harris can activate them if they so wished.
But that would require leadership that cares about the citizens to tell them to do it.
That would be the entire city of Asheville–2024 Population=95,000+/-.
The numbers still unaccounted for are heartbreaking…

Franklin is middle Tennessee – close to Nashville. Haven’t heard of any issues in that area. For Tennessee it’s the northeast corner on the opposite side of the ridge line from Asheville.
He may mean Franklin, NC which is West of Asheville. I used to live there and haven’t heard much about what is going on in that area.
Franklin is High elevation(flooding is downhill) and it was on the west side of the storm that did not have eyewall large gusting storms that occurred in the I-26 corridor areas.
