Everyone’s allowed to have an opinion in this country, but one would expect that an acclaimed American historian would be conversant with nationalist populism and not make a remark that offends half the country.
Burns was taking notes on how to pull a Sherman’s March when the red states try to secede.
I guess I shouldn’t be totally disappointed… but it’s hard not to be. I haven’t seen all of Burns’ stuff, but the stuff I have seen I thought was really well done…
“Jazz” from early 2000’s (a great soundtrack compilation on CD, BTW), “Baseball”, “Mark Twain”, “The Civil War”, last year’s “The American Buffalo”, “Muhammad Ali”… all really informative deep dives, and I don’t remember ANY overt political bias of any kind in those films.
Actually… I really hate that I would even consider recommending “The American Buffalo”, at this point… so let’s just say it might be worth watching…

I watched that early this AM ( TY ) and Candace Owens mentions near the end John Branca, well known TOP LA based entertainment attorney along with a guy I knew for decades ( since maybe 1969? ) John McClain who had managed both Janet and launched her own mega career for A&M Records while an executive there, as well as Michael at varying stages ( along with creating Death Row Records at Interscope which begat the first MAJOR W/C Gangsta Rap stuff ) and it is reported that with John Branca, they had Michael Jackson’s will changed while he was in NY, and their was foul play involved. Instead of more government regulation, how about a PSA campaign? No one is forced to drink soda, eat fast food, or buy highly-processed food laden with soy, artificial sweeteners, “low/non-fat” claims, GMO grains, high-fructose corn syrup, seed oils… Old-fashioned real food still is available.

It would never occur to them, for instance, that our government would deliberately give them dietary advice they knew to be false.
The point is that CHILDREN are raised from the womb to be addicted to this garbage that Big Food serves up. By the time that they are old enough to have an inkling that maybe the food chain is full of garbage, they are addicted. This results in mental depression and sluggishness. Enter Big Pharma who will drug these young teens so that they continue into the slow death spiral caused by Big Corporations. I have seen mothers give their children bags of corn chips for breakfast. We have a generational problem.
I was fortunate in that I was raised in the 60s and 70s when moms still made food from scratch and it was mostly meat and vegetables. For a beverage, we were offered water or milk made from non-fat powder. So we chose water. There were no snacks in my home. If it was someone’s birthday then we had cake.
I remember in the 90s when a lot of Asian people came to America. They were all slim and fit. Their children are all chubby just like their black, white, and brown friends. Two ladies that I worked with said that when they came to America they packed on 20 to 30 pounds because they became Americanized.
These big corps have made Americans sick. When people get sick they get depressed and do not see an escape. The cycle continues.
They demoralize people. Until PDJT and MAGA came along we were getting shafted every which way. PDJT has brought back political and economic hope. Now he will have to take on even more battles to Make America Healthy Again.

Fortunate in the 60’s/70’s to not have a mother who fell for the balogney, American “cheese” and Wonder Bread thing. No sweets unless it was a holiday. An occasional ice cream. Home made pop corn and butter was our treat.
Watched with my own eyes as a friend from PRC packed on 30 pounds in a couple months after discovering ice cream.
Also watching kids grow up where I live, slender and healthy looking up til age 11 or 12. Now packing on the pounds- *quickly*. Overloaded with mainly chips.

Yes. Our home was devoid of “snack foods”. Today, I still do not have crackers, nuts, chips, ice cream, cookies, cakes, candy, soda, and pre packaged “food” in my house. It is not because I do not enjoy the salty, sweet, fizzy, chocolate yumminess. It is just that I understand that I have no self control once I start eating that garbage. It provides no nutrition so my body keeps craving more bad food.
It is still meat, healthy fats, vegetables, homemade salad dressing, and Ezekiel bread. Periodically, I will eat seasonal fruit for a sweet treat.
This is crazy.
