The former president is safe and unharmed, and the FBI says it is investigating “what appears to be an attempted assassination” of the Republican presidential candidate.
The person dropped the weapon and fled in an SUV, and was later taken into custody in a neighboring county, the officials said. The officials were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
An AK-style firearm was recovered at the scene near Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, two of the officials said. And no injuries were reported.

Palm Beach government decided late last month to close the intersection of A1A (runs N/S) & Southern Blvd (E/W), blocking the road that runs along the front of the entrance to Mar-A-Lago. That intersection is a roundabout and is @ 100 yards from the entrance to Mar-A-Lago & President Trump’s golf course. I know this because riding by Mar-A-Lago is on my regular bicycle route that I bike 3-4X weekly. The PB town council voted to close this intersection and reroute traffic, when President Trump is at his home.
I did my ride early this morning, and I encountered the cement barriers that block A1A heading into Palm Beach. There were a few PB law enforcement patrol cars parked there.
It’s very, very troubling yet again that an assassin can get as close as the sniper did this afternoon.
There’s no doubt now that DC Deep State wants President Trump deep-sixed. They are not even pretending/hiding it any longer.
