Hope you and Ma are well. It’s a beautiful cool night here. Kiddo is just home from work.
I went to our little butcher and the meat… even on “sale”… was SO EXPENSIVE. Steaks were completely out of reach – running $75 to $95 for a family pack. About 12 ribeye steaks – and really good quality – but whoa nelly – we are not blowing that much money on steaks. 93/7 hamburger 10 lbs was $37. The ground sausage they handmake on the premises $25 for around 8 lbs. Found 2 beef pot roasts about $15 each and I halved those for smaller portion meals. Used to – I could spend a $100 and FILL a shopping cart with meat. Not anymore! Honeycrisp apples were $15 for a 5 lb bag! I put those back! One bottle of Lea & Perrins Worcestershire was $5.50! A small bottle of Hickory liquid smoke I scored for less than $3.
Brought things home, repacked into small single serves and tucked into the freezer. Made homemade Italian meatballs and had one of them for dinner and the rest tucked into the freezer, too. Easy, quick meals for wintertime.
I’m starting to “nest” for winter.
Fortunately we don’t eat much beef these days -just because. But, pork, bird, fish n shrimp are purchased and portion freezer-packed when on sale. Same with condiments, spices, sugar and nuts; when a good sale has come. Over bought strawberries and grapes when affordable and make jam. Frozen veggies too. Oh, and pastas!
Grew and froze loads of tomatoes, and buy canned ones when a good brand is on sale.
Have about 15 smashed n frozen bananas; there is always one that’s s too ripe to eat – ha , for banana bread.
Gonna start freezing beaten eggs for baking,
With the cold seasons on the horizon … been trying to stock up so the menu isn’t too restrictive.

Excellent. So elegant. I have loved Handel’s music since I was a child when I was given some 78s by my fathers youngest brother. I was nine. He does have lovely voice, sort of silky.
He’s knew to me, jb. English of course. It’s not hard to recognize those lovely voices. Don’t know what it is… But his is so pure. And that appeals to me very much.
Like you my first love was Handel. First 78 was “Messiah” with Eugene Ormandy conducting. I wore the grooves off that one.
I had a few like that. It used to drive my mom nuts I think. I have always loved ‘Messiah’ It is amazing and he wrote it so quickly!
In an elementary school in Cheshire i went to for a couple of years 9, and 10 years old, the music teacher actually took on teaching us to sing, as a school choir, ‘Messiah.’ She was very brave, but it all worked out and we did it! I still remember some bits my group sang. She did not do all of it just the Halleluiah chorus I think.
I went through a period of loving Ketelby’s music too ( EG In a Persian market) My Auntie Marjorie played the piano very well ( my grandfather taught music) and she had all the sheet music of Ketelby and other pieces I don’t remember the names now, but that were favourites of my Grandma (paternal)we gathered as a family quite often and auntie Marjorie would be pestered by that predictable demands of her niece to play something by Ketelby.

I was about 6 then. She would try to get out of it by saying I am not very good etc and I insisted and she would roll her eyes and give in, and then I would ask her play it again. I must have been a terrible nuisance. My grandma understood why I liked as she did too, but my mom would groan and say ‘Oh no! not that again!’. 🙂 When I hear that music ( very old fashioned) I am immediately back in the past at my grandma’s little row house in Fallowfield.
Enjoy ( or not hahhaha) I still like it. But then, at six I didn’t know
much about Persia. Music is very personal like art.

Oh yes. For several years in the early & mid ’50s my family lived in Dayton OH, just a few miles north of where the McGuire sisters were raised (Miamisburg OH).
All I remember is laid back peaceful living as a child. My folks were pretty smart people and they let us kids wander several blocks from the house, even as a 5,6, and 7 year old.. My sister and two neighbor girls went downtown on the trackless trolley (we lived 1-1/2 blocks off Main Street where the trolley busses ran) once by themselves to shop at Rike’s Dept. store and have lunch. They were 9 and 10 years old. No problems.
In this vile day and age can you imagine letting your children walk a mile to school, something which was entirely normal back in the ’50s?
There simply were not potential child kidnappers on every street corner. The homeless stuck to skid row and most of them had been productive farmers until the Great Depression.
The main problem was that unrecognized PTSD was prevalent among all the neighborhood men who’d fought overseas…..
there was that unrecognized undercurrent of … suppressed terror.

I believe the New World Order is shaping to run by fiat led by the American Governors’ Association – though they may add some “token” countries’ representatives into their little forum to make themselves diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
