I keep going back to Emerald Robinson’s remark that assigning a nursing mother to the detail being deliberate.
There are unavoidable holes in that reporting, but one immediate take on the story was hadn’t the woman heard of breast pumps, as it seems the rest of the world has.
Now I’m thinking, maybe not. Not that she hasn’t heard, but what if she was totally unprepared to be sent out in the field, having already arranged for breastfeeding at work?
She may have had no experience with breast pumps, as she thought she had everything covered, and we don’t know how much time they gave her to prepare for the assignment.
Sending her could very well be deliberate, knowing they would have an agent who was resentful and/or distracted.

And once you have all that expensive military hardware sitting around, it behooves one to use it, tempting weak politicians to adopt aggressive postures in parts of the world where the US had no real interests to support. Washington’s 900 military bases around the world serve no conceivable defense purposes but the bullying-effect produced by their presence elicits an inevitable reaction with developing and even some advanced countries figuring out that dollar dominance is at the heart of the problem. These countries have begun to join together to resist “Yankee imperialism” and negotiate agreements to create new economic and political alignments like BRICS, which will only serve to accelerate American decline.
So what is the solution perceived by Democrat and Republican leaders alike? More sanctions are the easy route as long as the US is able to manage much of world trade through the dominance of the dollar as the reserve currency. Currently one third of the nations in the world are under US sanctions for one reason or another and the Treasury Department’s sanctions document that lists those affected by name runs to 2669 pages. And there have been many more military interventions, coupled with special operations arranged with NATO and the dwindling group of friendly nations, which in turn drives the other nations into tight embraces with those who no longer are willing to accept what the clueless American Secretary of State Madeleine Albright boasted about: “If we have to use force, it is because we are America. We are the indispensable nation. We stand tall. We see further into the future.”
The sad truth is that it is the United States government that finds it expedient to begin the process of creating enemies for consumption in hopes of justifying non-beneficial alliances and other foreign arrangements and defense alignments that make no sense overseas. Say what one will about Russian President Vladimir Putin, but the moves made by Russian diplomats over the past twenty years were intended to create an accommodation with the west. Key to that improved relationship was Washington’s adherence to the post-Soviet Union break-up commitment to not expand NATO into Eastern Europe, which Moscow saw as a red line. The White House subsequently ignored that agreement almost immediately.
But it was Washington’s overthrow of an elected government in Ukraine that was friendly to Moscow in 2014 that set the stage for a deterioration in the multilateral relationship between Russia and NATO after Putin realized that there was little point in trying to establish an acceptable modus vivendi with the West. As we have learned recently from former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Minsk Agreement which would have established a non-aligned Ukraine was all a fraud, with NATO intended to arm and extend membership to Kiev in spite of pledges not to do so. Even as late as April 2022, shortly after Russia intervened in Ukraine to protect the ethnic Russian minority in Donbas and Crimea in February 2022, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson traveled unexpectedly to Ukraine to warn Prime Minister Volodymyr Zelensky that any peace talks with Moscow would not be acceptable to the US, UK and NATO. It was a demand that Ukraine should be prepared to continue the war.

Danish renewable energy group booked huge impairment losses Thursday after it pushed back the launch of one of its U.S. offshore wind projects, according to its first-half 2024 earnings report.
Orsted estimated the value of its assets declined $472 million in the first half of 2024, largely due to delays at the onshore substation for its 704 megawatt (MW) “Revolution Wind” project off the coast of Rhode Island and Connecticut, the report showed. The company also reported a variety of other problems, including losses related to its cancellation of its Ocean Wind projects in New Jersey and its abandoned effort to produce eco-friendly methanol in Sweden.
The delay at Revolution Wind was driven by soil contamination at an onshore transformer station, and resulted in an asset markdown of $310 million, or roughly 65% of the total impairment amount.

fast forward through the tucker questions…he interrupts a lot and breaks their train of thought….and his wild laughter. Makes the whole interview shorter and you won’t miss anything.
Interesting article. Something that bothers me about it…
The author spends a fair amount of time and word-space setting up the argument that “big tobacco” acquired “the major food companies” – even including a chart showing the myriad relationships between the various “food companies” as part of the evidence.
Then goes on to discuss the “Hyper-Palatable Foods” we Americans eat which they “engineer” to be “irresistible” to us. That is contrasted against the Mediterranean diet.
The article informs us: “Europeans enjoy the art of doing nothing and daily walks, whilst Americans glorify the hustle culture and McDonalds. Even though the tobacco companies no longer own these food brands…” (emphasis mine).
What? All that set-up about “big tobacco” acquiring the food companies – and what they’ve done with them – and then only one single vague bomb-drop sentence informing that “Even though tobacco companies no longer own these food brands“!?
Which brands? All of them (on that earlier chart)? Just some of them? When did they divest? Etc. Etc.
So… there are paragraphs of support (and a chart) for “big tobacco” having bought all of those food companies; influenced their food products to be “hyper-palatable” and then suddenly it feels like a hand-wave: “Well, they sold them”. Seems anticlimactic. No what’s, where’s, when’s, how’s or why’s that happened.
Reminds me of Monty Python and their skits where someone is “getting better” – like in the Holy Grail movie – where the “witch” turned someone (that isn’t a newt) into a newt – “I got better” he says (anticlimactically), leaving us with no details of the magical act or it’s after-effects.
I feel like I’m left dangling with that one, as if there is a hole in the argument – that is just hand-waved away.
That bothers me about the article.
