I just can’t bring myself (outside of special occasions) to spend our hard earned cash on commodities that are over inflated and should not cost what they presently cost.”

Five years ago we’d eat out 4times a week as empty nesters. We have not stepped foot in a restaurant in over a year, nor have any intention to do so. We cook all meals at home. Healthy Mediterranean diet. We’ve lost 30 and 40 pounds each the last year and one-half.
A Big Mac and fries is the price I used to pay for a good steak and chips! I’m now living on veggies in retirement. I can’t complain, it’s more healthy than that burger!
In general, most Citizens can not afford to eat out.
It’s understandable that the food service industry had to raise prices due to the Leftists demand for higher wages and increasing restaurant costs due to the high fuel costs of transportation.
But alas, many in the food industry are shutting their doors because this nonsense is unsustainable. Especially when your old neighborhood clientele cannot afford to eat out anymore.
Even though food at the local supermarket is way marked up currently, It’s way less expensive to cook your meals at home (while hopefully creating memories of shared meals).
p.s. I know that you treepers all know this. I just hope that the message is loud and clear to all Americans.

when you go on s.s.at 62 or 65 you can make x amount of dollars before you get taxed on it,in my case close to 20k per year before i get penalized at a rate of one dollar earned and they take one dollar in tax. until you hit like 70 then its unlimited.i would like to see that penalty removed to allow seniors to earn whatever they want.

I took early SS at 63 1/2 because I was being harassed by my managers to get the vaccine. My employer had two set of rules on how vaccinated versus unvaccinated employees were treated. Vaccinated did not have to wear a mask and got 10 days paid medical leave if they caught covid. Unvaccinated employees had to wear their masks and, should they catch covid, then they did not get paid while recuperating. I was told by one of my bosses that unvaccinated people should not be allowed into the hospital and should be sent home to die.
In 1 1/2 years I will hit full retirement age and can earn as much as I want. I will probably go back to work and make a couple hundred thousand over a few years.
My boss told me on the last day of my three month probation to get vaxxed or don’t come back in (ie become a permanent employee). This job was a miracle gift, being offered during a very rough patch of unemployment.

As a hospital Case manager RN, I also was forced to either retire or be fired in Oct 2021 if I refused the vax. I went through the “hoops” and submitted paperwork that I was against the vax for multiple reasons. As they did with all of us, our claims/reasons were rejected. So I retired.
Fortunately for me, I was 70 years old and had no problems getting the full Medicare benefits I had worked for all my working life.
I feel really saddened and even angry that the workers who were not old enough to retire with benefits had to make a heart-wrenching decision.

Next thing you know, wheels and cranks are falling off, the only weight that is movable comes from the backs of every man woman and child. It begins taking its toll and people are dying. So after many years of death and suffering; the people storm the gates of the warehouse with the pullly system and say they aren’t moving until the system is torn down and rebuilt how it once was. (Think the collapse of the Berlin Wall.).

No taxes on tips? Why stop there? By returning to lawful government there would be no taxes on anything. The Fed and central banking would go away and the fiat monetary system would be replaced with prepaid credit accounts from a new banking system operated under public law. Whenever a lefty proposes raising minimum wage, my skin crawls. The free market dictates what minimum wage is. If people can’t live on what a wage is at an establishment then they shouldn’t work there. If there are no other jobs then they have two options.
1. Go find a job that will hire you and that pays more.
2. If you don’t have the required skills for a better paying job, then go back to school and get those skills. If you can’t afford to go back to school then you need to look into some sort of group housing where you can split the cost of living for a while why you work at said cheap establishment and put yourself through night school.
I know it sounds hard, and it takes time, but in the grand scheme of things, putting in some extra effort now will lead to you reaching your goals in a few years.

After ten years in the workforce I realized my degree was not good enough and when the economy crashed in 2007, I was laid off and was at a cross roads. I could keep finding dead end jobs, or, I could put myself through night school while working a crappy job during the day so that my end result would leave me with not only a better degree, but a professional license that essentially makes my work credentials bullet proof.
For three years I went to night school, missed out on fun with friends and family, and I studied every night and weekend.
FINALLY I graduated top of my class with a graduate degree in the financial space, and then went on to study for a professional license. A license that is better than almost any other out there.
Not only did I have to obtain that second grad degree through night school, but I had to then study for and sit for FOUR 4 hour exams over another 12 -18 months to obtain my license. And there was a clock ticking where if I didn’t finish all 4 exams with a grade of 75 or higher, then one minute past 18 months I had to sit for the exams where time had elapsed….A SECOND TIME!
So spare me the sob stories. Quit messing with the free market. And to those who refuse to what’s right, go find a nice comfortable spot in the middle of a high end negborhood in DC or SF. They can take you in.

PS: share this story far and wide. It’s the exact reason why you should try hard in school as a kid. Otherwise your but ends up on the street or struggling on some level. I wish I had tried harder. The intelligence was there all along, I was just lazy and tried to coast. Got a decent first degree in a field I didn’t have to put a lot of effort. It was in business but a sub category that was easy and not overly impressive.
That is the way it has always been; until Hussein’s “hope and change” toppled it.

A few months ago, Your Poor Correspondent (YPC) went to a Nikki Haley event right before Super Tuesday. Now some might say, “Why would you do something like that? Are you completely insane? Massively masochistic?” The answer, of course, is “Maybe,” but with an explanation.
One of the topics YPC has been considering lately is, “What is the definition of a conservative?” Like most conservatives, YPC recognizes it when he sees it, but after so many years (decades at this point) studying and writing, he really should be able to do a little better than just yammer on, and what he has decided is that conservatism is complexity. Well, what does that mean? It means that smart, well-educated people go out into the world and report on what they see because, being complex, it’s impossible to forecast or predict ahead of time.
Example of these types on “complex” conservatism include Tocqueville who wrote about the American Revolution, Edmund Burke, who wrote about the French Revolution, and Tom Wolfe who wrote about the cold war resulting from the Russian Revolution. Communists, in contrast, write these comparatively simple books on comparatively simple systems–procrustean intellectual beds into which the complexity of reality must be stuffed with considerable conceptual violence and attendant destruction.
With this perspective, YPC trekked off into the night to experience the wilds of a Nikki Haley campaign event. First off, the event was unexpectedly packed, beginning with no place to park. Expected that a Republican event in solidly Democrat Massachusetts would not be very crowded but YPC had reinforced something he already knew–Democrats do propaganda for one simple reason, because it works! Had to work hard to find a parking spot, in the pouring Blade Runner-like rain –complete with flashing blue police lights. Finally got into the venue, a big conference hotel, and tried to make my way into the room. Walked by thick crowds watched by big Mass State Police officers and past the merchandise table showing the talk that was already taking place ON TIME!, which is unprecedented in YPC’s professional political experience. So already two mistakes: 1) did not get anything at the Nikki Haley merchandise table, on ongoing source of sorrow and regret, and 2) did not get there early to get a seat in the room. Tried to push into the room to see Nikki but had to go back to the merchandise table and watch AMB Haley on a big screen TV, where YPC saw Nikki present Trump’s platform point for point.
This begs the question, why did Nikki do this? There are a couple of reasons. First, recall that Nikki was the new Ron DeSantis, chosen by the billionaire RINO funders who realized Ron wasn’t getting traction and they had to find an alternative pronto. Second, what could she, like, legitimately talk about? She couldn’t discuss the policies her billionaire globalist funders expected Nikki to put in place after she got elected because those were the policies that were causing the pain for normal, everyday, middle-class Americans that was driving Trump’s oh-so-popular campaign! She could come up with alternative policies that were actually better than Trump’s, but that would be hard, expensive, and risky. So better to just rip off Trump’s conservative pro-American policies that were not actually popular in Massachusetts, but the audience didn’t care because, like, Nikki wasn’t Trump.
At this point the reader might ask, What does any of this have to do with presidential politics August 2024? Well, Kamala Harris and her handlers find themselves in the exact same conundrum as Nikki and her billionaire globalist funders! They can’t talk about what they want to do because people don’t want it, and they can’t come up with new policies because that’s hard, expensive, and risky. So better to steal Trump’s policies and figure out that dumb voters won’t care because, at the very least, Kamala isn’t Trump.
This might work for a couple of reasons. First, Democrat voters exist in a completely separate information ecosystem dominated by ABC, CBS, and NBC “News” in addition to the ever-execrable CNN that nobody watches anymore, so they’ll do a good job packaging up Kamala’s freshly pilfered talking points and making them seem like their own because, well, that’s what they do. Also, Kamala can be as quiet as it is possible for a candidate to be and rely on an endless stream of exciting events to mask the fact the Democrat candidate has nothing intelligent to say. Just saw this this weekend as there was a large event in Arizona featuring a celebrity other than Kamala that generated at least some pictures to give the aforementioned “news” organization some plausible deniability and talking points to fill airtime, which is all they need. Beyond that, there’s always the Democrat vote-counting machines to help, as Rodney Dangerfield said, “Keep it fair! Keep it fair!
There is a no tax on tips bill sitting in committee since June. It was sponsored by Rand Paul and Thomas Massie.
Make sure it is a clean bill…pass it and send it to the dem led Senate this week! Tell Kamala to get Dems to sign it now.
