The key point about Tim Walz history of lying about his military combat service and service in general, is to remember the people who constructed the Harris campaign genuinely don’t view Walz’s lies as a problem. If anything, the background lies make Walz more vulnerable to their control, which ultimately makes him a better candidate.
That said, for the public face of the issue, the Harris campaign (that’s Brian Fallon), seems to indicate somthing akin to a political apology from the principal (Harris) on behalf of her underling (Walz).
I’m not exactly sure if Fallon is intending this to make things better, or just make the goofy leftists in his tribe feel better.

“Governor Walz would never insult or undermine any American’s service to this country — in fact, he thanks Senator Vance for putting his life on the line for our country. It’s the American way,” the Harris campaign spokesperson said in a statement.
“In making the case for why weapons of war should never be on our streets or in our classrooms, the Governor misspoke. He did handle weapons of war and believes strongly that only military members trained to carry those deadly weapons should have access to them, unlike Donald Trump and JD Vance who prioritize the gun lobby over our children,” the spokesperson added. I have always thought of the IC as hand picked due to their intelligence. Guess that comes from watching too many movies when I was younger.

The rule is that a soldier must serve two years in a pay grade in order to retire in that pay grade. Even if a soldier is validly promoted to a pay grade and is paid in that pay grade, he must serve two years in that pay grade in order to retire and to receive retired pay in that pay grade. I faced the same situation myself. I served my two years.
I assume Walz was validly promoted to Command Sergeant Major (E9) but chose to retire as a Master Sergeant (E8) rather than be shipped to war with his unit. Definitely looking out for himself, and I guess it has paid off.
Walz was frocked. He was able to pin the rank on and assume the duties. I saw reporting yesterday that he held the rank for 46 days before he retired.
As a part of being frocked, he was given a training slot at the Sergeant Majors Academy. He had to complete that coursework and serve an additional two years in order to officially be promoted to CSM.
Other reporting I saw yesterday said that he met with CSM Doug Julin, the Brigade CSM twice. Julin said Walz was aware of an upcoming deployment to Iraq in the fall of 2004. Julin met all Battalion CSM’s in early 2005. At the first meeting, he spoke with Walz separately at Walz request. It was in this meeting that Walz said he was running for Congress.
In a second meeting in March or April, Walz again spoke with Julin separately. In this second meeting, Walz said he did not get the nomination, so he would be deploying with his unit.
There was a third meeting of Brigade CSM’s after that, and that is when Brigade CSM Doug Julin first found out Walz had bailed out of his unit. Julin said on CNN that Walz had to jump his chain of command to get his retirement approved. Julin would not have approved it.
It was July when the unit was activated.
Again, reporting I saw yesterday suggested Walz was reduced to E-8 after he retired because he did not complete the CSM coursework, and did not serve an additional 2 years to retain the rank, although he certainly had 2 additional years on his obligation.
I still have not found any reporting on whether Walz collected retirement pay as an E-9.
Regardless, he is a disgusting POS. This video shows him talking to a Gold Star family and suggesting he (Walz) had PTSD.
