From psychiatric hospitals to the NICU, clinical settings have become political battlegrounds.
Many patients at the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute, an 89-bed facility affiliated with Pennsylvania State University, suffer from schizophrenia, substance abuse, depression, or bipolar disorder. They cannot complete the “activities of daily living,” the hospital’s inpatient clinic states. Some are “suicidal, aggressive, or dangerous to themselves or others.”
During their stay, which is often involuntary, patients participate in group counseling, learn strategies for stress management, have their medication adjusted, and interact with therapy animals.
They can also partake in a less orthodox therapeutic activity: registering to vote.
Located in a swing state that could decide the 2024 election, the hospital asks psychiatric inpatients, regardless of diagnosis, if they would be interested in “voter registration tools” that let them check their nearest polling station and register to vote online. Patients can also request a mail-in ballot with “assistance” from hospital staff, according to a pair of papers about the project, which began in 2020.
Since then, the hospital has continued registering patients —even those who are not near discharge and have not yet been stabilized—on the grounds that voting, as the institute puts it, is a “therapeutic tool” that “helps empower patients and makes them feel good.”
“Voting is an important part of the recovery process,” Julie Graziane, a geriatric psychiatrist who leads the hospital’s civic engagement efforts, said in a press release Neither she nor Ruth Moore, the hospital’s head of community engagement, responded to requests for comment.

Epistemology: The theory or science of the method or grounds of knowledge. How do we know what we know? How do we distinguish fact from inference, speculation, hypothesis, or outright fabrication? The discipline of epistemology is intended to address this. All required is common sense, an alert intellect, and ready access to Occam’s Razor.
Consider two very different examples: 1. I know that the attempted assassination of Donald Trump was orchestrated by the Deep State and implemented by various three-letter agencies of the federal government. 2. I know my car has a flat tire.
The second type of knowledge is distinctly different from the first. My flat tire isn’t a psyop. I can’t be gaslighted into believing my tire is flat when it isn’t. Media propaganda will not convince me I can safely drive on my flat tire. Fact-checking plays no role in my assessment of whether my tire is flat. My flat tire is not a conspiracy theory. In other words, only that immediately apprehended by the senses is known.
Unfortunately, very little of what is commonly accepted as knowledge is known. The vast bulk of what we think we know is simply inferred, deduced from available data, or received from authority, but it is not known in the same way I know I have a flat tire. Interesting is the process by which people think they know something but actually don’t. The point is that what you know may not be accurate.
Epistemology is the discipline that strives to discern the basis for what is known and how knowledge is acquired. The COVID-19 conspiracies have recently been superseded by the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Once again, on the one hand, there are things we know, and on the other, things that we can speculate about, infer, or construct plausible scenarios for.
We know massive institutional incompetence was on display in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. That’s an indisputable fact. It’s entirely possible that the incompetence was deliberate.
The Powers That Be may have left the henhouse door open on purpose in hopes that a weasel would get in and ravage the place. But it could be even worse.
Donald Trump was supposed to be dead now, which would have made it much easier to conduct a phony “investigation” that drew the correct conclusions.
As it is, the feds seem to be scrambling to contain a crisis that threatens to spiral out of control. The more data points that accumulate, the more sinister the conspiracy looks.
The lying, the concealment of information, the deliberate failure to coordinate with local law enforcement, the refusal to hold press conferences, and the absence of any data about the now-deceased gunman — all of these make it seem likely that the authorities are hiding the facts because they are criminally complicit. But we don’t know that.
We know we’re being lied to, and I think it’s safe to say that we know the government doesn’t have our best interests at heart. The next few months will likely make the previous eight years pale in comparison.
We’re in for a rough ride, like nothing we’ve ever seen before. During this trying time, it will be essential to keep your epistemological tools handy. Remember how to determine what you know as distinct from what you think is likely to be true or might possibly be true.
We are living through an era where “we the people” no longer matter, where shepherds drive us into fetid pastures. Whilst the truth sets us free, we may have no access to the truth, freedom of information has turned out to be a redacted tool.
Fraudulent elections only add to the dysfunctionality of government processes.
We see VP Harris being remodelled before our eyes, knowing that major sections of our community will believe that she was always the remodelled structure.
Kamala is not the only one who does not do her ‘homework’, she believes what she is told, no need to verify, truth is whatever she and her staff find convenient.

What brings me here, especially, are the hyperlinks. (I vastly prefer that the link be accompanied by some sort of brief description – not “just a link,” which I usually don’t follow.) I also encounter some “thoughtful bits of discussion,” although I freely admit that I happen upon them. Otherwise, I simply “scroll-bar past,” usually reviewing only the latest page of however-many. If something “offends me,” I simply keep scrolling: everyone is entitled to their opinion, and to the cordial expression thereof. (In that, “I am a duck in the rain.”)
Nonetheless, for me at least, “it is ‘worth it.'” I personally benefit from coming here. And, from time to time, I offer posts that I hope are beneficial to others.
