Also ignoring the lynching of Hindus. The ostensible cause of the protests were employment quotas to which students objected – reserving some public jobs for veterans of the 1971 war for independence of Bangladesh. This was viewed as favoring the ruling Awami League party.
It seems that a military government will attempt to restore order and form a government. Army Chief Waker-us Zaman has asked for calm in an address today.
Is this another “American coup”? It follows the same procedure as Ukraine, Georgia, Venezuela, etc. etc. etc. etc. With Pakistan’s popular leader’s ejection and now Bangladesh in turmoil, this is seen as an effort to block India both on the east and the west.
The US is supporting the anti-government forces in neighboring Myanmar, after Biden signed the Burma Act, calling for providing “non-lethal assistance” to Myanmar’s “Ethnic Armed Organizations”, particularly the Kuki-Chin rebels.
In addition, ISIS-K (South Asia branch) has been spreading from Pakistan into India, inciting Hindu-Muslim antagonism and recruiting enlistment. (How closely aligned are ISIS-K and the USCIA?) The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is growing in influence as an umbrella organization for terrorist organizations in Pakistan, with the potential to attack into India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.

A good chunk of this is the Bank of Japan raised interest rates last week, while the US Fed is expected to bail out the Democrats with a rate cut going into the election.
This apparently destroys the USDJPY arbitrage trades (borrow low from Japan, buy in US) so the big banks are quickly recalibrating by selling a lot of assets for cash. It appears to have triggered a lot of automation, which is jolting a lot of limits.
End result is we just lost about 4 months of gains, on top of everything else going on.
Dow Jones was down 2.6% today which isn’t much of a crash if it’s only measured by one day.
