Who among decent people, Christian or not, is not outraged at the Paris Olympic debacle? Normally, I can do tirades, outrage, enraged. But today, words, even angry ones, the ones that come too often to my lips, don’t come.
Today is a day for prayer, especially prayers of reparation, and prayers for repentance.
After my first inclination, I put down my stone. Instead of quoting Jesus on casting stones, I’ll include this one from Revelations Chapter 3.
So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.
I submit that at times, probably most of the time, we are lukewarm in our faith, lukewarm in our practice of our faith. In our prayers, our hope, our charity.
And so, I accuse myself today, as well as the performers, the endless Olympic officials and committees and politicians, and every soul who didn’t walk out of there.

I am grateful, in no particular order, for rain, grandchildren, summer produce, farmers, cool breezes as I watch the sunset behind the mountains, that I live at the foot of a mountain and a hop from the Tennessee River, good neighbors, strangers who smile, and funny memes.
I wish I practiced the virtues more, especially tempering my tongue and self denial. I wish, oh so much, that I could sing. I wish I’d never broken my ankle. I wish I could hold all my grandchildren one more time as babies for a few minutes. I wish I could protect them from evil. I wish faith for them. I wish I had a beach house.

A few weeks ago I spent 3-4 hours with our 5 year old looking for lizards in a South georgia beach town. Hot, sweltering, but I was with him doing what he wanted to do. He did finally get a lizard. Didn’t get to the beach that time, but few weeks earlier I stood (and sat finally) in 1-2 foot surf for him to play. We found a starfish, hermit crab, etc. Made sand castle. We stayed at an interstate motel with hard floors. He went back and forth on the office type chair for about an hour. His memories or mine? I don’t know.

I never ever watch any sporting event and pulled the satellite dish.
In our house we watch old movies or carefully screened and selected DVDs or nothing at all. Don’t even tune in to local news much less the drivel of national news.

The spectacle that we saw at the opening of the Olympics was created in a long process that involved schematic design, story boarding, costume design, casting calls, set design and construction, rehearsals, costumed rehearsals, etc. I bring this to our attention because there were many steps along the way where people reviewed, approved, and moved forward this abomination. Similar to Covid and the vax, there were people a percentage who whole heartedly supported and enabled this. There were most assuredly 1) people who acquiesced, 2) people feared criticism and therefore submitted, 3) people who were too banal and stupid to realize what they were doing, 4) people who criticized, were summarily ostracized and resigned or were fired.
Participants 1-3 are the ones we need to pray for. These are the people who crafted the golden calf in the desert and forced all to wander for 40 years until they were purged. Let us find and support those who stood up. Let us raise our children and grandchildren to be like them and then, hopefully and by the grace of God, we will return to the Promised Land.
I could not force myself to watch that. I am truly grateful for that Christian American woman soccer player for not backing down on her beliefs even though everyone are attacking her, That, is TRUE COURAGE.

I thought the Olympics were to celebrate athletics including the body God gave them, and how one can work hard to make it do amazing athletic fetes.

Winter and Summer Olympics always seemed to draw me in…Often it is only for one or two of the events and then I am hooked on more…
Opening events have usually been my favorite, especially seeing so many athletics proudly representing their countries.
Every year it seems that the Olympics have gone further and further away from their true intent to where I ask WHY do we have this Farce every four years any more. Seeing participants, especially American participants, making a mockery of their own country who are/were the reason for them being able to compete was bad enough and now this DAMN.
Every year I remember back long ago as a child watching on TV the Olympic torch being run to the main stadium…Remember asking my mother about that torch and told me it represented the unifying of the world’s nations as they joined together in their hope for peace.

Why would you need a video? This article link has a still shot of the tableau they mocked our Lord God, Christ Jesus with – an offense to every person, who loves and reveres Him and God the Father.
I had one glance at this picture and was sickened and sent into prayer. I asked the Father God for His Will to be done with the planners and accepters of this abomination.
It is stomach churning – but even worse was knowing, as another commentor stated, the care and planning that was invested in doing this evil. One knows France, the country, was involved on some level in this decision.
Of course my thoughts went also to the Olympics, and all that France is looking for them to be bringing in gain to their country – and the need for them both to be shunned and boycotted, in all ways.
I feel very sad for all the athletes who’ve worked so hard to be a part of the ones who’ve achieved the honor of going there to represent their countries.

My prayers today are for my loved ones who have passed. In a way, grateful that they don’t have to see the world as it is today.
In addition, my prayers are for my grandchildren who are facing such an uncertain world. If this is the era that I think it is, I pray deeply for them – that they have the faith in the Lord Almighty and fortitude to face the future wearing the armor of God.

I am grateful we have ducks, chickens, cats, kittens, a German Shepherd, and our rescue Beagle. All very loving and happy creatures that follow us around all day and bring great joy. Ducks always have something going on.
My 86 year old Mother’s rent is only increasing by $33! Prayers answered there boy oh boy! I love my Mother very much and she loves me. I miss my dad, passed 14 years now this Tuesday.
I have seen photos and read the accounts of the Paris spectacular fail. I don’t need to watch. It is sad that with all France has in its history, these people find it necessary to produce crap. It is disappointing that in the USA we had an Arabic uprising of white youth in our capital, Paris rail was set on fire, and soup gets thrown at paintings.
I am very thankful I can talk to God all day every day. This has been a Beautiful summer even though I am injured.

I wish so many could feel the contentment in their life that I fell every day. Not perfection, just contentment, for all things, big and small… a satisfying run, a funny story, reading a beloved book with emphasis to a small child, coffee and vinyl in the morning, spontaneous laughter, the sound of a summer breeze, the warmth of the sun on a cool day. Then, maybe the desire for money, power and control wouldn’t be the goal.
More importantly, I wish to be remembered for time spent with those whom I love.

I agree with you! Living the moment we are in right now and enjoying everything about it…no matter how big or small our mind might think it is….it is a moment in which we are experiencing this awesome thing we call life!
Yes…stay aware and informed….and spread the word. But…..no one knows how long they have and this moment IS the only one that is guaranteed to you. They want us to forget what is within and forsake it. But, all this insanity really is…a distraction. Do you really think that it’s out of God’s control? Of course not. So…be not afraid or fear their narratives….knowing thyself and being at peace within is the utmost purpose of us all…even through all this around us.
Absolutely, David. When you’re overwhelmed, you’re unable to relax and connect. And then you fear. And the fear consumes you, and then you’re easier to control. It’s the connections and contentment that make life worth living, and what make you strong. We all just need reminders at times!
I’ll try to start each day with that as a mind-workout.
